Advantages Advantages Good competent crime thriller

Disadvantages Disadvantages Couple of holes in the plot

Indelible by Karen Slaughter actually tells two stories within one book however the events in the present story are linked to the one set in the past so there are a series of flash backs to allow the reader to make some sense of the present day goings on. When two heavily armed gunmen burst into a small town police station both medical examiner Sara Linton and her former husband police chief Jeffrey Tolliver are caught up in the cross fire. Tolliver is left seriously wounded and a number of his fellow officers are dead, Linton is left as one of the hostages along with two other police staff ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy To Read, Strong Themes

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None.

Karin Slaughter uses her fourth novel, Indelible, to tell the reader two different stories which intertwine, enabling them to understand why a course of action is taken. The novel starts in the modern day (2004 when the book was published) and details a shootout at Grant County Police Department, with Slaughters main characters, Dr Sara Linton (paediatrician & medical examiner) and Police Chief Jeffery (not Jeff) Tolliver both involved. Fringe characters detective Matt Hogan, Detective Frank Wallace, Detective Brad Stephens and Detective Lena Adams all become involved in a hostage situation ... more

Advantages Advantages another great novel in the series

Disadvantages Disadvantages none-slaughter is again on top form....

Once again Slaughter proves she is on top of her game with another compelling thriller set in Grant County. This time though, after the novel begins with an assault on the local police station by two gunmen, the book is for the most part told in flashback.... In this novel, the focus is almost entirely on paedatrician and part-time coroner Sara Linton and ex-husband police cheif Jeffrey Tolliver. Shortly after they first get together, the pair take a trip to Jeffrey's home town and Sara meets the future mother-in-law for the first time in less than auspicious circumstances.Wandering out into the ... more

    Advantages Advantages full of suspense

Disadvantages Disadvantages non I could see

A warning should come with Indelible: If you begin this book late in the evening, you’ll never get to sleep, furiously turning pages. It is full of suspense, sympathetic characters, and enough murder and mayhem to just keep you turning those pages. The only problem I have with this book is that it is the fourth in a series and now I’ve had to go back and read the other three, Blindsighted, Kisscut and A Faint Cold Fear. Even though this is a series this book could be read as a stand-alone as just enough background information is given to explain the story and the characters history ... more

Advantages Advantages will keep you gripped!!!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none!!!!!

I'm not normally a big fan of crime fiction, but with a huge exception for Karin Slaughter. The book was full of suspense and not at all predictable as can sometiems be the case within this genre. It was very well written and the characters were very believable. Too many crime novels have leading characters who are perfect and lead perfect lives. Sara and Jeffrey, (the lead characters) are far from perfect, they have their own problems and do come across as being very human. Although this book is the 4th in the series, it is a good read in it's own right. This was the first Karin Slaughter ... more

Advantages Advantages Couldn't put this book down. Fantastically well written.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Couldn't put this book down - life came to a halt.

This was my favourite of her Heartsdale novels so far. Indelible goes back to the beginning of Sara and Jeffrey's relationship with a visit to the town where Jeffrey grew up. You see a whole different side to their characters, and it provided great insight to the people they became. The chapters are brilliantly done in the way they skip from present time, to past events. The storylines run perfectly alongside each other. I can't wait for the next installment in Heartsdale to see where our characters are now. All characters are fascinating, not just the main characters. You long to know what ... more
