Washing machines have always been a pain in the ass for me. And not even in that fun kind of way. Washing machines have always been there since the dawn of time, lurking in the background just waiting to strike. When not munching on half a pair of socks, they like to strike fear into the heart of greasy, clothes-less teenagers. I've read a number of reviews on Indesit washer/dryers recently that have described reliability problems as a major downfall. However, I must say I've never experienced any problems at all. Our last washer/dryer was Indesit and lasted around 5 1/2 years before the drum decided it wouldn't turn anymore. That's not a bad lifespan really. Having just bought a new WIDL126S model, in Silver, we're only a couple of weeks in but again, no problems. Perhaps some people have just been unlucky (or maybe I've been lucky?). Of course this is only my experience of this appliance: Due to space restrictions Indesit is the only brand of washer-dryer that would fit. We are now on our second WIDL126 in 3 years! Within 6 months the motherboard had fried, followed shortly by the concrete weight thing inside breaking free from its coupling and becoming entangled in the drum belt mechanism. In addition the clothes that came out of the drier always smelled funny...a bit like singed plastic, which we put down to simply a faulty machine. we purchased this model 18 months ago. two weeks ago the wash cycle finished and error leds started flashing. joy! after trying to fix it myself i gave up and called an engineer out. it appears that on this model the door lock failing can trigger the control board to die. if that happens a repair will set you back apx £200. our engineer told us not to buy this make in the future as he sees this problem regularly. we have no kids, it's just the two of us, the machine was used apx. twice a week. hotpoint (makers of this model) will do a 12 month repair warranty for you for £69.95 plus parts) i ... more
