Pay less for more
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
Wile-E
Advantages: Cheap, reasonable performance and highly overclockable
Disadvantages: intel roll out new ones so fast, the older ones are obsolete in a week!
...for a family member, the intel supplied heatsink was used and the machine has been running well now for approximately 6 months.
I'm now looking at the new 800mhz celeron, a friend is running one of these at a gig, that magic number is very tempting, especially when the price is now so low. I've yet to see a celeron that wouldnt achieve some degree of overclockability, so why bother paying the extra for a bigger processor? Just go for the cheaper ...

Celeron 533mhz - not recomended
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
Neil2k
Advantages: Cheap processor
Disadvantages: Slow, small cache,
I have mixed experiences with these processors, In comparison to AMD's chips, Im afraid Celeron processors do not compare.
My AMD K6-2/450 which worked without fault, was sold and replaced with a Celeron 533Mhz which at the time was of similar cost. Celeron processors were at the time rated quite highly however in comparison to AMD's 450, Graphical benchmarks, Gameplay, High Quality Video files, processor benchmarks all showed a great deal of a ...

A little dated - but still reliable
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
Manx
Advantages: Proven track record.
Disadvantages: A little dated.
The Celeron does not have the brand name punch that the Pentium does, but, none the less, it a solid and reliable chip. It doesn’t have any problems with floating point division either!
This chip is getting a little dated now and I wouldn’t advice anyone to buy a brand new machine that has one, or even two, of these chips.
If, however, you are looking at a second hand personal computer or you are looking at buying a number of computers suitable ...

good overclocker
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
craigy
Advantages: good overclocker
Disadvantages: not as good as duron
The Celeron has been around for a while now and, due to the fact that it is a cut-down version of the Pentium 3 that runs at a slower bus speed (66MHz for the Celeron compared to 100 MHz for the P3), with a little TLC and a lot of cooling, it can often be made to run at speeds far greater than the advertised values. In this respect, it is not as good as AMD's Duron processor (see my review of that for details), but for owners of BX boards, this can ...

Celeron II - A gone wrong PIII
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
thepanther
Advantages: Pretty fast, PIII core
Disadvantages: Not cheap in budget terms
The bosses at Intel have finally decided that they cant waste any processors any more. Its takes too much money and time in the industry to manufacture too many chips because they dont have many fabrication plants to do the job. Basically they had to find a way to make lots of different chips very quickly.
Well here's the clever part. The Celeron II (not official name) is simply a PIII, well I say simply a PIII but that's what they are. Only difference ...

overclocked Celeron or Duron - a tossup
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
gospelmidi
Advantages: Celeron 566 o'cd to 850 is straightforward.
Disadvantages: To take AMD into consideration, you must do some research.
Tom's Hardware published a new comparison today of the Duron and Celeron, converting MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 and decoding MPEG-4.
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000925/mpeg4-02.html
It appears that an overclocked Athlon outperforms the Pentium III and the o'cd Celeron. But $ for $, £ for £, you need to total up the entire system cost to make such a decision. Especially in the U.K., the Athlon parts could wind up being more expensive than the Celeron.
Athlon ...

Slot 1 is clumsy go for Socket 370
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
trevor252
Advantages: System runs at 133Mhz
Disadvantages: have not found any yet (3 months)
I purchased an Intel Celeron 533. The reasons for my choice are many, but basically the Slot 1 processor seems to be getting outdated by Socket 370, the fans on a Slot 1 seem to have aproblem in that out of 10 machines purchased in the office that I work in all had to be replaced within 9 months, and the others that have been sent in replacement some have already started to get noisy. I would also add, that there seems to be a much better performance ...

Its just BAD
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
Iceblade
Advantages: Cheaer than other processor of the same speed and can be over clocked to a slightly faster speed
Disadvantages: Cheap (depending on whether you find cheap an advantage or disadvantage), cnat cope with what its counter parts can!
...can really say about an intel celeron, except do not buy one. Thy are cheap garbage - i mean ok if you cant afford great hardware for your pc then thi maybe an option, or if you only use your pc for word processing, etc, aside from that its not very good for anything.
My intel celeron 333MHz with MMX has caused me nothing but trouble. One fact of them is that many dont run at the speed they are stated. In tests they have the ability to but mine ...

This served a purpose once upon a time
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
CyrixDes
Advantages: decent gaming chip, good allround performer
Disadvantages: way too expensive compared to the opposition, older technology
...a hugely successful chip for Intel over the years, but if you look at how quick it is compared with its main competitor, its just completely wrong. The Celeron is an excellent chip for gamers on a budget because it has a good Intel floating point and coupled with a reasonable graphics card can be a very good and acceptable gaming machine. The only thing is is that I cant see why anyone would pay more for a 667 Celeron than they would for an 800 Duron ...

Its Great
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
BHANDAL
Advantages: Cheap, fast
Disadvantages: Not as commercial as PIII and AMD Athlon
...to the world of the Intel Celeron. I'm not very much into the "Commercial" side of computing, these being the AMD's and the Intels I, II's and III's. I wanted something different. The Celerons performance is classed to be very similar to a Pentium II and an AMD K6/2, which in any standard is good. It is highly affordable and is available with clock speeds of up to 433MHz. The performance of the chip itself is quite remarkable as it was origianlly ...

Celeron 600e = 9.0x Multiplier
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
wildandyc
Advantages: Very Overclockable
Disadvantages: Small cahce
A 9.0x multiplier is about as far as you can go with a Celeron to acheive the much respected 100Mhz FSB and therefore acheive 900Mhz in the case of the Celeron 2 600e.
DO NOT BUY A CELERON 2 633, 667 OR 700 IF YOU WANT TO OVERCLOCK THEM 100MHZ FSB. Their multipliers are too high unless you are going to liquid cool them!!!
It has to be said that the 0.18 micron die etch has been a god send for overclocking but when the multiplier starts to get ...

The best chip for money!
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
BejayAlford
Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: slightly slower
...with crashes....I had a normal intel before and paid way too much for it. I was always frightened of celerons because originally they were the failed chips, but now have been turned into the fastest selling chip and great value for money. They are slightly slower than the real intels but for a bit more you can get a higher MHZ processor that will outperform the equivilent MHz pentium. Go out and buy one, you will not regret it and will have many error ...

Celeron Or PIII
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
Chronis
Advantages: Cheap,reliable
Disadvantages: not for graphics, or design application
...low-cost but reliable system, the Intel Celeron chip is always the chip I consider using in comparison with all the other chip like AMD or etc . The celeron is fast enough to watch DVD from the computer write application have multiboot system. Play games etc. From the other hand if you using graphics packages or design programm don't go for celeron Dot think about the money buy a PIII which is more fast in this kind of application.
But ofcourse is ...

Outdated But Still Good
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
Carlhuz
Advantages: Cost, Installation
Disadvantages: Slightly outdated
Although the Celeron hasnt got the power of the normal Pentium II and also the New pentium III they still are a very good upgrade option to anyone that is still either using a 486 or Pentium system.
This is because they are excellent value for money and will do the things that you will expect from the cpu speed.
The reason behind the price difference is mainly because of the lack of memory on the cpu which the pentium has, this however doesnt ...

Celeron 533. How to overclock
Review of Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor by
FVELLA
Advantages: Easy way to upgrade and overclock
Disadvantages: Some extra heat
I have recently purchased a 533MHz Intel® Celeron™ (S370). I also have a SLOTEK mine is MSI MS6905 Master ver 1.1
The sloket makes it possible to plug the celeron chip into a SLOT1 Motherboard. My motherboard is the ABIT VT6X4.
The ABIT Motherboard has a softmenu setup which is great for overclocking.
Now to overclock this processor. Well first of all this processor is locked at 8 times the system clock. So 8 times 66Mhz gives 533. With ...
