Advantages: Easy to overclock, runs cool, doesn't use much energy. Disadvantages: May require a large heatsink and fan replacement, as the stock HSF is not very good.
...the pressure I put this Intel CPU under. Some of them have died; some of them just became unstable. The E8400 though laps the pressure up, it begs for more. I was never a fan of Intel products; some would say I was an AMD fanboy. So when I purchased this and saw how amazing it was, my opinion changed immediately. They truly are gifted engineers to create a piece of hardware that can get me excited and happy about a product so much that I come here ... ...I had with this processor was monitoring the temperatures. It seems to say the temperatures are much higher than they are in reality. For some reason there seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding the temperature probes this chip uses. Now I never did find out if it was my processor, or the software I was using, it doesn't seem to have affected the lifespan of the processor so I am happy. I will probably never sell this processor, even when I upgrade ...

Advantages: Cheap, fast and cool Disadvantages: it's not a quad core, £130 may be too much for some
It took a while for Intel to wake up and smell the prices of AMD shares recently (AMD being Intel's main competitor). After years of AMD taking bite after bite out of Intel's market share with innovative, efficient, fast and affordable processors, Intel finally did something about it and released the Core 2 processor. The dual and quad core CPU's completely blew AMD away and AMD still haven't caught up two years later. Quick review of Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 / 3 GHz processor
As a home computer user, this processor is perfect for my needs. It's not too expensive and it can handle pretty much any multimedia task I can throw at it.
I can listen to music, rip a CD, browse the web and download files, all while my computer is performing a virus scan in the background, and everything runs really smoothly. Waiting 10 minutes while an application installs is now a thing of the past, everything installs in a matter of seconds.
I would certainly recommend this for home users and power users alike. By far the best processor I've ever had the pleasure of using. ...

When compared to the Q6600 this processor might fall behind but at the moment hardly any problems utilize all 4 cores and the the moment 2 cores is enough. However if you are willing to spend another £20 -£30, i would recommend but the q6600 because in the future programs will take advantage of the four cores.
