Advantages Advantages Easy to overclock, runs cool, doesn't use much energy.

Disadvantages Disadvantages May require a large heatsink and fan replacement, as the stock HSF is not very good.

This is the processor I am using day in and day out and it is by far the best piece of hardware I have ever owned. Not only does it work perfectly and stay cool, it over-clocks like no tomorrow. I have my little E8400 running at 4.0Ghz on air-cooling which was a lot easier to set-up than I first thought it would be. I was truly amazed at just how much juice this processor could put out without seemingly batting an eye-lid. Of course you will require some pretty good cooling to pull this off, but you can get coolers like the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro or the Xigmatek HDT for around £20 which will be ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, fast and cool

Disadvantages Disadvantages it's not a quad core, £130 may be too much for some

It took a while for Intel to wake up and smell the prices of AMD shares recently (AMD being Intel's main competitor). After years of AMD taking bite after bite out of Intel's market share with innovative, efficient, fast and affordable processors, Intel finally did something about it and released the Core 2 processor. The dual and quad core CPU's completely blew AMD away and AMD still haven't caught up two years later. The Intel Core 2 E8400 is the latest revision of the Core 2 processor with 6MB cache as opposed to 4MB of it's predesssor mid range chips like the E6400 and E6600. The speed has ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 / 3 GHz processor by HTID 14/02/2009
As a home computer user, this processor is perfect for my needs. It's not too expensive and it can handle pretty much any multimedia task I can throw at it. I can listen to music, rip a CD, browse the web and download files, all while my computer is performing a virus scan in the background, and everything runs really smoothly. Waiting 10 minutes while an application installs is now a thing of the past, everything installs in a matter of seconds. I would certainly recommend this for home users and power users alike. By far the best processor I've ever ... more

This is a very cheap and reliable processor. This also runs very cool as this is the new 45nm chip. This also means that it is possible to overclock more. This is perfect for any new games, as this is has 2 cores.

Advantages Advantages Runs cool, less noise, easy to overclock, excellent for games and multimedia, energy efficient

    Disadvantages Disadvantages There aren't any

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 running at 3Ghz and with 6mb l2 cache is one one the most sold processors in recent months. In fact it is so good and loved by gamers all round the world that in some places it went out of stock for days and weeks. It has 45nm architecture which ensures that it runs cool and can be overclocked up to 3.5 Ghz with no extra cooling solutions. Smaller architecture also means better data communication. I personally own one of these processors and i am a heavy multi tasker and i could assure you that it never lags behind. In the background i run video converter while playing ... more

Advantages Advantages Very quick, highly overclockable.

Disadvantages Disadvantages None, except there are not many stock often.

This processor is great. Due to the fact that it is made on 45nm technology it has idle temperatures of about 29 degrees. It also also has great overclocking capabilities. Personally i have managed to overclocking to 3.5gGHz without any problems or voltage changes. Intel recommends a voltage of 1.225 volts. When compared to the Q6600 this processor might fall behind but at the moment hardly any problems utilize all 4 cores and the the moment 2 cores is enough. However if you are willing to spend another £20 -£30, i would recommend but the q6600 because in the future programs will take ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap good for the price

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow compared to newer cpus

This processor is a very outdated one. It has very long boot times and constantly freezes when running the most simple applications on windows vista, such as Internet explorer. If you do not plan to play video games and only type word and PowerPoint documents this processor is for you. This small chip does however feature very low heat output and is treaty for laptops because it merely sips the battery. This is nothing to compare to the core 2 quad or not even close to the i3/i5/i7 lineup as even an i3 has been shown to have over 40x the processing power. Now this processor is however great at ... more

Advantages Advantages High perfomance, reliable for extreme overlcoking.

Disadvantages Disadvantages This is a 45nm processor which will not work with older motherboards.

This is a very nice CPU for its price range. i would recoment it for anyone who is in search for the right cpu. with this CPU you will be able to play all the games you wanted to play such as; Crysis Warhead, Farcry2 and Call of Duty 4. this is a core 2 duo, so it has 2 processors so you will be able to run a virus scan and play your game at the same time without any sort of lags. This is a very nice CPU and for people who love overclocking their components, this is easily overclockable to 3.85 GHz. For those who are not aware on what overcloking is, its when you push your PC components to ... more
