Finacially Intelligent or just argumentative?

AdvantagesGood Interest Rate

DisadvantagesInflexible, Somewhat Confrontational, Poor customer Service

"My inital experience with IF was a good one- good inital rate on a Mortgage, usful to have th offsetting feature, which works well. However, once I was out of my special offer period I started looking around and wanted to extend my mortgage-IF didnt want to know!- No more deal available to me- just total disinterest! They even declained to put me through to the mortgage department 'as it wanst worth it'! Got a remortage from Natwest at a muich ..." Read review

Intelligent Finance -

AdvantagesFriendly service, quite low rate, offset, good if your self -employed

DisadvantagesVery stressful at the beginning of application but forgot about that now

"I obtained a mortage with I.F in December 2004. It was quite hard work from what I remember but have had no problems since. My partner was self-employed and it was pretty much impossible to obtain a mortgage for the amount we needed. Other banks (including my own) offered us amounts that wouldnt have bought a shoe box. Think our rate is 5.70 at the moment and I love the fact we are not tied in by anything. We needed a payment holiday for a couple ..." Read review

Eggs in one basket, GREAT IDEA!!!!!!

Advantageseasy to use online service/flexible system

Disadvantages0845 number when you have to ring them

"Changed from a normal run of the mill morgage bank to IF and were sightly cautious, but so far so good, its worked very well for us. Looked at many other off set morgages and spoke to friends and this appeared and has been the most simple one to use and by far the easy one to understand. Its great to be able to look at your account at any time on line and notice the morgage actually being paid off. This account has worked well for us and can't understand ..." Read review

IF only I'd stayed with First Direct!

AdvantagesOffsetting can save you money

DisadvantagesTechnology rather backward

"If only Intelligent Finance was as fantastic as I had been lead to believe. The idea of offsetting appealed to us so we moved our mortgage to them (as supposedly more flexible than First Direct). As we have a joint mortgage all accounts opened in either party's name have to be approved by the first named account holder, not necessarily a problem, but not ideal. All statements, which ever account they relate to are sent out in joint names (I did ask, ..." Read review

Make Your Savings Work Harder

AdvantagesFlexible, Off-setting of savings, very helpful and knowledgable over the phone

DisadvantagesNo branch network

"We were really please woth IF as they were able to offer a total package surrounding a flexible mortgage. As we as the mortgage (which we can over-pay) we also off-set our current accounts, savings accounts and ISAs. While our savings and current accounts are off-set against the mortgage we are saving more money in mortgage interest than we could earn if the savings etc where elsewhere. This is saving money and shortening the life of our mortgage. I ..." Read review

not so intelligent finance

Advantageson-line

Disadvantagescomplicated

"...on the suitablilty of an intelligent finance mortgage. You have to open a bank account aswell and the theory is that you save interest by having money in the bank account. Unfortunately the layout, explanation and accessability to the accounts is not terribly intelligent and every time we've tried to use the on-line facility we end up telephoning an operator to sort it out. The security system is over complicated with random security questions the ..." Read review
