Backups in a flash Review ofIomega Zip 250 MB USB Poweredby

Advantages: Easy, sleek, cheap and safe - what more could you want Disadvantages: None
...computer installation I decided upon Iomega Zip drives as my back up facility. I have used an older model Zip drive attached to the parallel port in the past. The printer was then daisy chained onto the back of the Zip drive. Apart from slight slowness in large back up procedures (graphics files for instance) and the inability to use the printer and back up at the same time, the drive had given incident free service for over three years. My archive ...

Advantages: Portable, quick, easy to use, 250MB storage Disadvantages: Annoying power cable!

The 250MB Zip Drive from Iomega allows you to use 250MB disks and 100MB disks in its drive. This means that if you had brought an old Zip drive which only supported 100MB then you wouldn’t need to buy new disks. Both 100MB disks and 250MB disks work in this drive.
The drive itself is about the same size as Roald Dahl’s THE BFG softback book. It’s really no t very big and it’s lightweight. So you can carry it round ...

Advantages: good portable storage Disadvantages: bit expensive compared to a cd writer and media
There's little doubt that the Iomega Zip drive is now the market leader in removable storage devices, ahead of its nearest rivals the LS-120 and Sony's HiFD drives. However the Zip's 100MB of storage has started to seem a little miserly given that the demand for capacity continues to rise - driven in part by the increasing use of graphics, video and sound files on the Internet and company-wide intranets. But the new Zip 250 has leapt ahead of its ...

Advantages: Bigger than floppy disks and "nice" design Disadvantages: Too small a capacity for the price, disks are too expensive & data transfer between the drive and your computer is very slow
...much much faster.
In short - Iomega - thanks for a great invention to keep us going before we got CD Writers, but for the price I will stick with my CD-RW.
NOTE:
Thankfully I managed to get £75 for my second hand drive on e-bay (see my review) ...

Advantages: quicker than floppys, holds several hundread MBs of data, easy to carry around Disadvantages: will need a zip drive, not all computers will have them
...who don't know what a Iomega Zip 250 USB Powered is, it is a portable storage device which accepts disks roughly double the thickness of a standard floppy disk. They store about 70 times the amount of data than a standard 1.44MB floppy disk does. The device is a small, lightweight and attractive looking device that can be easily placed near your computer without taking up much desk space. The good thing about the device is that it is powered from ...

Advantages: compact, easy to use, looks cool Disadvantages: none
I borrowed a friend's Zip 250 USB powered drive the other week, and have now just ordered one for myself.
Costs around £80 from most computer and electrical shops.
The plug and play feature is excellent: you don't need to restart the computer to use it, which is great for university; especially for large assignments, presentations and for downloading large files from the internet to take back to a home computer.
the zip 250 definitely fills ...

Advantages: USB, easy in operation, good design Disadvantages: expensive media
This drive has USB interface which makes it easy to intall and makes it truly external drive which you can take from one computer to another just in minutes. I welcomed the fact that now it is 40% smaller and takes the latests 250 MB disks. The MB/price ratio is much better in this case that of a 100 MB media. The drive comes with easy to install software which is full of usefull features including backing up facility which can be made almost automatically. ...

I love it! Review ofIomega Zip 250 MB USB Poweredby

Advantages: Fast data transfer Disadvantages: Pricy device
I am using the Iomega Zip 250 via USB for my work and I really like this storage device compared to the earlier one, the 100 MB Zip which I find it insufficient at times.
The outlook of this portable device is sleek and the blue transparent case gives it some class of its own. It gives fast connection over USB and I have no problems transferring data from my harddisk to the drive.
In fact, I could also played music from the zip disc. This ...

Old technology Review ofIomega Zip 250 MB USB Poweredby

Advantages: Hard wearing, faster than floppy disks Disadvantages: Small storage, Price, compatability
Well let me "try" and explain what a Zip Drive is. This plugs unto your USB port and looks like an external floppy disk drive, the actual disks are roughly the same dimension as a normal floppy disk, but a little thicker. The disks are well built and would be hard to damage. They are similar to floppy disks in that they have a shield which slides back when in the drive, so the disk is fully encased. Zip disks come in size variations of 25MB, 100MB ...

Advantages: Cheap, easy to use, fast, can leave printer plugged in Disadvantages: Not as fast as an external hard drive
A zip drive is an excellent and cost effective way to back up your files, or to keep sensitive files away from your main computer.
The zip 250 connects to the parallel port, and has itself got a parallel port, so that you can have both the zip drive and your printer connected at the same time.
The price of the zip drive is about £100, but the disks are quite expensive, about £10 each for the 250mb ones, although the 100mb disks work on this ...

Excellent! Review ofIomega Zip 250 MB USB Poweredby
MrMeat
Advantages: small, looks cool, USB, portable Disadvantages: pricey media
the Zip 250 USB is excellent! everything about this bit of kit is top notch! it's small and light with a small power supply, no massive brick here and easily portable, being USB you can just nip it round to a friends house or to the other office or whatever with a couple of disks and transfer large amounts of data quickly and easily.
Compared to CD-RW the zip is cheaper to buy and easier to use, it's much faster than my old 2x drive too... you'd ...

Advantages: handy Disadvantages: pricey
Okay, so we had zip and then we got zip 250.
Personally I think these things are great. The only problem though is if you have to use various machines rather than one in the home only.
I mean, you don't come across these drives a lot of the time. They aren't as widespread as floppy disk drives, though I think they probably should be.
But.....there's the price. Ignoring the drive ,itself, I've never seen a 100 zip disc for less than £9.50. ...

Advantages: good for data transportation Disadvantages: cd copiers are chaeper
Eversince the advent on win95, a floppy disc could no longer suffice for the memory hungry bill gate files. For this reason a Zip was a good investment.
The new ZIP 250's are much faster than the old 100 meg ones, and can use the same media. The advantage is the 250 meg space. BUT WAIT.. this is the review of the internal version, the one you cannot carryout. I'm reviewing this because my UNI, has just fitted 100+ of these onto all the new PC's. ...
