In the instructions Irobot recommend that you charge the unit for 16 hours before the first use and then two hours after that.
BUT - Im impatient! I took it from the box and pressed the large clean button on the top of the vacuum. It played a pretty tune and off it went! It started its circle dance around the room untill it blue dirt detect light came on and it cleaned the dirty area - I had hoovered that morning but this robots blue Dirt ... ...You may be asking what is this blue light?
Well - Roomba is a super clever Robot, when the unit detects allot of dirt is being picked up in a small area the bot with start to circle. It doubles its cleaning power until its happy the dirt has gone and it drives off! Amazing.

Advantages: No hassle cleaning, keeps the place clean and tidy whilst you are at work. Easy to use. Disadvantages: Initial outlay, can be noisy.

This is the 530 series, whcih includes the Automatic Vacuum cleaner, rechargeable power supply, virtual wall and a battery pack to run the roomba and a base station. The only difference between this and the 560 series, is that you do not get the timer which can set cleaning hours etc. The 530 series is white as the 560 series is black. You can turn this on, and within 30-60minutes time your room is clean! ... ...works. It maps out the room, while cleaning, it should end up after 60 minutes of cleaning covering the room 4 times! making sure theres no dirt left atall! If i hoovered my room with a standard hoover, then turn my roomba on afterwards, roomba still manages to find dirt! it's amazing how much your upright vacuum will miss while cleaning! Roomba will pick up EVERYTHING! Leaving no dirt behind it. It's AMAZING how powerful and useful this little machine ...

Advantages: Do other things while its cleaning. Cleans under beds. Safe on laminate and wood floors. Disadvantages: Have not found any yet.
This item is simply amazing, so much that when my mom came over from South Africa to visit me she insisted she had to take one home with her, £190.00 courier costs later she has one, lol. I have had mine for nearly a year now and it is amazing. Its perfect for keeping on top of your house cleaning, as i don't always have the time to vacuum 3 times a week as recommended by many house cleaners. ...!! The reality is that there are a few minor improvements -- less noisy being one -- try to contact Irobot about any problems --- more often than not the response is get another one -- we have improved the new model -- GUESS WHO FELL FOR THAT ONE !!!! ...
