    The sugar price is at a thirty year high, put down to a particularly wet South American sugar season and a dry Indian one, those two countries the biggest suppliers, India the biggest user. The price rise is around 75% up on last year, increases likely to feed through to British supermarket baskets in around three months time, that basket very sugar dependent in the affluent west. It's an oddity that the poorest people in the west are often the fattest, certainly not the case in the third world.     Genetically modified food. Is it right? Genetic engineering. Sounds like something that makes a mechanical contraption of some sort. It is in fact in my opinion one of the most frightening concepts, and potentially one of the most dangerous projects being undertaken by mankind. As most of you know by now I am totally against anything that interferes with the normal processes of nature and our planet.     I believe Genetically Modified Food could be useful in solving the developing worlds farming and nutritional problems. In order for developing countries to produce Genetically modified food they need to first invest and support companies in the GM food sector to encourage research into gene development and structure. However private companies currently dominate GM (genetically modified) research, and consequently will create products for the largest, most profitable market: Developed countries.
