5 Stars It Not Just You - It Really Is! Review with images 08/09/2008

    Advantages Advantages Brilliant read!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

If Alan McArthur and Steve Lowe left anything really rather annoying out of this book then I'll be a monkey's uncle. It really does include everything that IS shit and takes the mickey out of it until you're blue in the face laughing. I absolutely love this book and the second edition - Is It Just Me or Is Everything Shit, Vol II. for which I waited in anticipation until the day of its release. I received this book for Christmas, from my mum who thought it was right up my street. It was and within days I'd read it cover to cover, laughing so hard that it became annoying to everyone else. I ... more

Advantages Advantages a few amusing entries that make you think, "hell yeah"

Disadvantages Disadvantages once read, never again (though I think that about most books)

I cant remeber when I first got this given to me, it was either as a Christmas or Birthday present some year or two ago. It is a classic shelf filler in places like Borders for the Christmas push, given a hefty price for such a book that once the time of January comes around has a sudden price cut to a more a realistic offering. i chose to review this for the benefit of those who think that at first glance; "what a bizarre title, this book MUST be funny", or "my mate jimbob would really like this!. The fact that I have seen it disappear from grace only to reappear when the festive time is upon ... more

    Advantages Advantages Funny and witty.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages boring

The Book in itself is quite funny, full of witty jokes and remarks about almost anything. The book lists everything that the authors hate (in alphabetical order) and why they hate them. It is obviously going to get a bit tedious reading paragraph after paragraph on any random thing that the author dislikes, but when is reading an encyclopedia ever fun? This book is definitely not for the light readers, but meant more of a relaxing read for serious readers. A quick look at the book will let you know whether or not it is for you, but generally, it is a giant list with a few jokes on each ... more

Advantages Advantages The humour factor, and the realisation that most of these views are shared by many people.

Disadvantages Disadvantages As it's quite an easy read it won't take up much of your time, although that's not always bad.

'Is It Just Me or Is Everything Shit?' - The Encyclopedia of Modern Life - Alan McArthur This book is hilarious! I could not stop laughing throughout. It is set out in subject paragraphs, each one having a specific criticism to point out. I think these guys have a pretty pessimistic view of most things, and that is why I found it such a great read. They are simply grumpy old men who moan and complain about the smallest of things, whilst oozing intelligence and pointing out what everyone thinks about the little petty things in in life like advice slips and the phrase 'must have'. At a UK price ... more
