Advantages Advantages External beauty attracts potential partners

Disadvantages Disadvantages Causes envy and lack of empathy

I was drawn to this particular debate by memories of a tragic loss I experienced six years ago - details later - and thought I would like to express my opinion on the subject. I have to say straight away that I have been happily married for 32 years and so my comments and experiences relate to those years before I met my wife. As a red-blooded male (of middle age, so definately not so red-blooded as I used to be) I have to admit that from my very earliest days of pursuing the opposite sex, I have been drawn by external beauty. I believe that most people would agree that if you find someone ... more

Advantages Advantages Fact base look at Beauty

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ver clinical and depressing

First debate in 6 months, how exciting, I'd forgotton how much I enjoy reading people's opinions and thier line of argument. I've had a scrawl through the topics and found it a bit difficult to find one that really interests me and I can get my teeth into. Some of them are just a bit pointless and others I've found the subject matter too complex and extensive to even begin to write an effective argument. Or at least after just a few weeks of being back and not really in the swing of things. This debate has a nice balance of being pointless (a solid conclusion cannot really be drawn, as ... more

Advantages Advantages beauty is not skin deep

Disadvantages Disadvantages yet we all judge by beauty

The World of a Beauty Queen A mother sits in her beautiful home, the walls plastered with her daughter’s success. The father stands outside washing his many cars won through his daughter’s beauty. Meanwhile, a four-year-old sits alone at her dressing table, applying make-up, and sorting her long golden hair. She stares longingly at the children playing outside. She realises she should feel appalled at their dirty clothing but she wants to be like them. Should any toddler have more knowledge in make-up than a trained beauty therapist, or own more clothes than most working adults could afford ... more

Advantages Advantages Beauty is on the inside!

Disadvantages Disadvantages We still judge people by the way the loook!

Beauty is pain, or is it? Many people believe beauty to be someone with extremely good looks, but true beauty does not consist of what is on the outside, it's what's on the inside. Picking up a typical magazine nowadays and flicking through the pages, you will see that every picture consists of someone with long, sleek hair that's had every strand stamped into place with hot steam irons, has gorgeously applied make-up, the most expensive of course, and has a body squeezed into the tightest jeans around. But is this all real beauty is? I believe that even the most hideous person around can be ... more

    Advantages Advantages See Opinion

    Disadvantages Disadvantages See Opinion

What Is Beauty? Another one of those concepts that's hard to really identify because too many people have conflicting ideas on the subject, what defines someone as truly beautiful? Is it their looks? Their figure? Their confidence? Their style? Their Ethnicity. In truth, I think it is none of these things and all of them at the same time, I know, it's a little bit of a contradiction but I think beauty is represented differently by everything. What do I find beautiful? I like to cherish the simple things in life, like the bright colours of flowers in the spring and summer, frosted autumn leaves ... more

This is something that I consider very close to my heart. I think that we all are guilty of pigeon holing people due to size, gender, looks or the choices they make with regards to their body, and yet we get annoyed when people do it to us. As i was growing up, fat people were pointed out to be in the street as freaks, same with people with tattoos and piercings. My family are relatively old fashioned, and in some regards, I felt that people were judging me on my looks due to how I looked, which if anything left me with very low self esteem. I could never manage to live up the expectations I ... more

Advantages Advantages You can't judge a book by its cover...

    Disadvantages Disadvantages ...or can you?

When I originally sat down to construct this opinion, I wondered just how much there could be to say on the topic. As a concept, you could easily think that beauty is only skin deep because in the traditional sense, beauty is regarded as a physical thing. However, the debate is rather more profound that that, so I’ve tried to examine the question a little further. I have some stonkingly good-looking friends. I have some average looking friends. I have some quite odd looking friends. The fact of the matter is that I like them all in equal doses, if not in different ways. To me, the ones ... more

Advantages Advantages good looks, deeper beauty

    Disadvantages Disadvantages nothing underneath

The question about beauty is in my mind, a very broad one as beauty comes in many forms. The most obvious form of course being esthetically pleasing, yet there are many forms of beauty from the abstract to sound of a voice. Many forms are above the skin yet not obviously visible. To have an esthetically pleasing body, face or attractive hair is something many people are blessed with, others have to work for it and for others it is not given or even attainable. More than I question whether or not beauty is only skin deep, I question each persons perspective on it. At a younger age, way back when ... more

I don't think I'm that good-looking naturally, but with a dab of concealer and a lick of mascara, I feel so much more confident, even though I know that realistically, I don't look that much different! I know it shouldn't be that way, and that I should feel naturally gorgeous without a scrap of make-up on whatsoever, but it just doesn't work out like that, does it? Is beauty skin-deep? In a word, no. Guys, imagine this.... a tall, blonde girl. Yes, the stereotypical gorgeous girl, but really! She has thick, glossy hair, huge sparkling blue eyes, a 22-inch waist and legs that go on forever. Not ... more

    Advantages Advantages You Decide

    Disadvantages Disadvantages ?

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” – so goes a well-known saying. But it is also in the eye of the owner or not as the case may be! You may be privileged enough to come from a respectable, loving and happy family. But this will do little for you if you feel dissatisfied with your appearance. Your family may try to encourage you but deep down you feel you are far from beautiful and that can make you depressed. People can feel rejected because of their appearance and all because society places too much importance on the way we look. Success, it would have us believe, depends on our looks ... more
