    The Stern Report was released in October 2006. This lengthy document takes an international perspective on the challenge of Climate Change/Global Warming, and the impacts on the Economy if we do nothing/act now. Written by Sir Nicholas Stern for the UK Government, it is notable for being the first report on the topic that has actually been written by an economist and not a scientist. Not only that, until a little over a year ago he was pretty neutral to the debate.     Please note this review focuses more on the issue about man's involvement in global warming rather than whether it is an urgent danger.     ~ ~ This topic has been listed in the Ciao café category for some time, but to date I’ve shied away from writing about it for the simple reason that it’s such a complex and complicated subject that it’s very hard to know exactly what the truth about global warming actually is.     Is global warming an urgent danger? Basically I feel it is a very urgent danger but one that can not any longer be solved or dealt with to any extent. In my opinion it is far too late to realistically deflect to any great effect any of the major damage this is causing or is going to cause to the planet and the species that live on it.     I looked at all the previous reviews expecting to find an Anti American diatribe but was pleasantly surprised to find instead some very well researched articles. Oh there were some anti American comments and sentiments but not as much as I had thought. So I have written this, Sorry it is a long one. The loss in efficiency of heat exchange and transfer means that more heat is wasted and wasted heat escapes into the universe.     The met office, who seem to have taken sides on man made global warming (in favor of because it's good for their new commercial side, even offering 'text' weather updates for 15p), have said the last two rotten summer were a 'freak event' and so nothing to do with global warming (it was colder and wetter last year). Will this years awful winter also be written off and so extracted from those global warming calculations? I just dont belive the world is going to warm up enough for any real disasters. The oceasn have risen 8ft in the last 10000 years and Brighton Beach looks no different folks ... more
