Advantages: A good looking DVD player, that is easy to use and compatible with CD's as well. Disadvantages: Read below.
...not that expensive) then the JVC XV-S42 DVD player may be the one for you.
I am always trying to keep up to date with all the latest technology. DVD players have been around since about 1996, but only now do people seem to be madly buying them. I wanted to be a part of this insanity and so I bought my first DVD player at Christmas. Although I spent all my money on it, it was definitely worth it. I have not regretted buying it, and I think I made ... ...players for £300. The JVC DVD player has a stylish and slim line design and it looks much more expensive than it actually is.
When it arrived and I opened the box, the first thing I noticed was how 'slim' it seemed to be. Supposedly it is a new design and it only measures at 435mm wide, and 68mm high. This is quite small, and I had no trouble fitting it in my chosen destination. The second thing I noticed was how light it was. It is very light at ...

A few months ago I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of my new DVD player. Then it arrived and my first impression was that that it looked nice. It is very slimline and has a lovely silvery finish, the remote control has many buttons and I thought it looked complicated. You see I am not very good with machines and working them out. When I opened the user manual I was pleasantly surprised as it was very clear and with good instructions. The first thing ... ...everything in, it automatically found the viewing channel from my TV. I will now try to explain the features for you.
PICTURE FUNCTIONS

Advantages: Sleek, feature-packed, good name Disadvantages: Not multi-region
...drive. My DVD player, the JVC XV-S42, is a player, not one of the new devices that allow you to record onto recordable DVDs. So this is the first point to take note of - you will still need a video recorder to tape Eastenders or Channel 5 porn off the TV.
The first thing you'll notice having opened the box is the size of the thing. While about the same dimensions as my old video recorder, the difference lies in the height. Sleek and sexy, the S42 ... ...to enable multi-region. Unfortunately, the JVC is not one of these, but if you're like me, you're only going to buy UK DVDs anyway, so it probably won't be a problem. But it might bother some people, and it's important to know.
- The end scene
The JVC XV-S42 is a smart piece of kit. JVC is a good name, so you can be happy that you've got a product that is top quality. It looks good, it works well, and it has just the right number of features to ...

Advantages: Bargain basement price, reliable all round performance, mpg support Disadvantages: Only supports region 2, outdated model
Being a bit of an X-Files nut I bought this DVD player two years ago so that I could get the series boxsets that were coming out on DVD. I had been put off buying a DVD player for a while as I wasn't prepared to pay the prices that the top of the range models were going for but I saw this model on the high street for £70 and I decided to take a chance on it.
Obviously two years is a long time in the technology world and this model wasn't that new ... ...the range picture quality and sound with all the bells and whistles of a new player then this isn't for you. However if you are on a budget and want a player with decent sound and picture quality then I would recommend this model. It also has a compact design which makes it a good choice if space is at a premium in your living room
Over the last two years my DVD collection has expanded and my player has seen some heavy use. In this time it has proved ...
