So much choice!

Advantages: Lots to choose from-can use same account throughout all the sites
Disadvantages: Some items are a little over-priced

If your not familiar with the name JD Williams, it may be because they go under lots of different names which appear as separate companies, but they are all actually branched from the JD Williams group, hence with one account you can purchase from any one of their sites- Here are all the sites which I am aware of; + VivalaDiva.com + They claim that its a womans right to shoes, and I for one agree! This site is full of shoes- any style you could ...
...can class as cheap- unless you happen to drop by a bargain in the sale! They feature some designer shoes which can be priced anything upto 250pounds! I have had a few pairs from this site and some of the shoes with heels come with screw off caps on the heel- so when they wear down, you can replace them with the spare pair they send- they also send an extra pair of soles to slip inside. Its a handy site to know about if you require wider or smaller ...

MIXED BAG WORTH A RUMMAGE IF YOU ARE FAT

Advantages: variety of brands in plus sizes, wide fit shoes, good selection of underwear, 28 days to return
Disadvantages: a lot of polyester dross to wade through, really bad payment/account system

JD Williams is a mail order and Internet company that operates under several different brands targeting slightly different demographics: Simply Be, Via La Diva, Shoe Tailor, JD Williams itself and probably about twenty more others. I have no idea why it's in the "offline" shopping category here on dooyoo as its Mail Order and Internet parts are completely integrated and I can't see why anybody would NOT use the the online ordering. All the websites ...
...shouty one that feels like some American shopping sites I occasionally look at - and you can log into all of them with the same customer number, although there doesn't seem to be a seamless transfer of the basket content from one to another. The selection of items varies to some extent, and thus some are available on more than one website, and some are only available on one of them. This all can get a little bit confusing, to be honest, especially ...

Where to begin

Advantages: only for cash buyers who can see the small print
Disadvantages: Advertising, charges, lack of information

JD Willims trades as many brands such as Simplybe, fashionworld, premierman and fiftyplus. There are many more but to many to mention. Due to the number of brands there is a lot of product range, mainly clothing but electricals and other house hold goods are sold. Delivery times can be as little as 1 day or 3 weeks. There seems to be no medium on this, almost pot luck. Regarding value for money , the item prices on the website or in the catalogue ...
...but, only if you are paying in full at the point of ordering. The cost of a credit account If you use their credit account the costs rocket. For example a pair of trousers cost £7 and the cost is placed on your credit account. Within 1 month the true cost would be £7 plus 39% APR. Not all catalogues do this, for example littlewoods offer 0% apr and no credit charge for 20 weekly payments. Advertising All the advertising from adverts in magazines ...

Fifty Plus from JD Williams

Advantages: Free delivery and return policy.
Disadvantages: Some clothing items come up smaller than the normal size.

The mail order company, JD Williams comes under many guises, one of which is Fifty Plus. This catalogue is aimed at women who are over fifty but don’t want to dress like a granny. In theory that is great, and upon browsing through the catalogue, one can become quite excited as not only do most of the clothes look great, some can even be categorised as trendy, they are also available in large sizes, in some cases up to size 38. At this point, ...
...not over fifty and don’t need a size 38, however, I have browsed the catalogue and ordered several items from it – several pairs of cargo trousers and some T-shirts. The parcel arrived within five days, however, I was not over completely happy with the contents, as the materials used were of low quality and the sizes of the garments did not reflect the equivalent high street sizes and were not well cut – however, as I had ordered ...

how the telesales (after-sales sales) system work

Advantages: good range, some quality
Disadvantages: bad after sales experience, poor delivery condition

I work at jd williams on the telemarketing department. This is the department (employing around 250 people on it) that phones customers up, grasping for sales. once you've given us your number, we have a legal right to call you up for any reason. we phone you up if an item you ordered was out of stock, or if you've returned an item, or if an item has been delayed for more than a month (this happens a lot), or if you have had MULTIPLE items delayed ...
...every one of these 'campains' we will offer you a discount, and aim for a sale there and then. as sales advisers we are told from the outset (ie, the interview to get the job) that this is not cold calling, this is warm calling, ie, that the people we phone are regular customers. On the one hand this is true but on the other we phone up people who may have placed just one order with us (from a mag ad) who don't even have a catalogue or people who ...

JD Williams/ Simply Be/ Fashion World

Advantages: Good size range
Disadvantages: Captive audience re sizes so maybe dont need to address customer service issues?

I have been a customer for many years, Simply Be and Fashion World however there are two major problems that really make me cross and so I have cut back drastically on my shopping with JD Wiliams Group. This company does have a huge range or ladies clothing, footwear and mens clothing with some homeware and specialist sites and are well known for the large size ranges they offer, especially to women. The quilty is high street average, with a few ...
...in full or have an account but you are charged a montly "service charge" not an interest payment as they dont seem to lower it when interest goes down-but I guess thats the price you pay for credit. The two sticking points for me are:- The first thing, is the unbelieveable about of mail stuffers, catalogues and leaflets they send you from ALL their ranges, there is no customer relationship management at all. Some days I would come home and find ...

It started so well

Advantages: Free Delivery and Returns
Disadvantages: Poor Customer Services

I have been with jd williams for nearly a year now and at first it was great no problems, quick delivery good credit level and easy payments. The catalogue is great for ordering clothes out of as they normally get delivered in a week or two weeks at the most. However, if you are wanting dvd's playstations or games do not order from them. I ordered bad boys 2 on dvd when it first came out and after two months of phone calls i still hadn't received ...
...lost in the post and i could re-order and wait up to another 28 days. Needlesss to say i cancelled the order. I then ordered a playstation 2 in October this year and didn't receive it until December 20th. With one of the games missing which i am still waiting for. Their customer services is helpful at first but then they say it's on its way and it never turns up. I ordered a playstation two memory card in November to go with the playstation and ...

Easy does it

Advantages: Easy and User Friendly
Disadvantages: None

J.D.Williams were always advertising with something or other in the Sunday Magazines and nothing really appealed to me in the Ladies Fashion Pages. However one Sunday they were advertising an MDF shelving unit. I rang them up to order which was easy, home approval before you buy etc and the item arrived within 4 days of ordering. We needed a shelving unit for my daughter's Play room and didn't want to pay much as she would only draw on it or something. ...
...The item was very easy to slot together (no screws) and is very sturdy for under £20. Once the 28 days is up to send them a cheque as you would with any mail order catalogue. I have them received a catalouge or two from them and have taken a lot more interest in the home accessories, the Ladies Fashion is still not really in my age group (more for the over forties really or older even). They do have a web site www.jdwilliams.co.uk and is well ...

JD Williams, so far

Advantages: So far so good
Disadvantages: None yet!!!!

I have been a customer for just a few months. My experience has been a good one, with fast, delivery, correct sizes, and good quality clothes, that fit. Having been a shopper in larger ladies clothes shops all my life, i get annoyed at being ripped off for what im paying, especially when you see the same or similar product available in the thinnner shops, at half the price. Looked at JD Williams, following a recommendation of a customer of 7 years ...
...First i wanted some Bras, got 5 for £20 in the sale, and they all fit perfect and was fantastic, Other shops wanted £20 to £30 each. i have bought some really nice clothes, that have all fitted nicely, but have noticed that the range needs updating in many ways. Not all larger females are old, and not all older ladies want their clothes looking like sacks. I would today recommend them, but will of course be watching what happens. I received my ...

JD WILLIAMS RIP OFF

Advantages: convinient
Disadvantages: rip off nearly always!

JD Williams (now 'futuristic logistics') is a terrible company. My Father used to work for them, until a few months ago when he was made redundant after 20 years of working for them. Enough about that though, I'll tell you what the prices are like. My Father used to get a staff discount for all the items in the catalogue, and he recieved them at cost price (i.e. the price JD Williams pay manufacturers for the goods.) It may surprise you, but a £60 ...
...over £25, representing a massive profit increase. Also, a mobile phone my Father bought that retailed for £49.99 in the catalogue, was bought for £26. JD Williams offer 'free delivery', although this delivery charge is simply included in the price you pay. These are only small examples of JD Williams 'ripping the consumer off'. I would steer clear of this company, and use the high street instead, as in almost every case you will find the same item ...

Quick review of J.D.Williams Mail Order Catalogue

Dreadful customer service. Received goods in May, returned next day. They say they did not receive until July, and I have still not received credit of over £200.00 and it is now September. Keep being told has been credited to Card, but statements clearly show have not (these have been copied to them). They do not return calls as promised, or e-mails. Now started legal proceedings to get monies owed to me. ...

Very Disappointed

Advantages: Large Shoe Sizes
Disadvantages: Very Poor Service

I have been a customer of one of JD Williams catalogues (Shoe Tailor) for about 8 years and most of the time received average service from them. That was until recently. I ordered some pictures from them, 4 in all, 2 of each picture. Well i received 3 of them but one went missing, i call their customer service and the people there are rather over worked as when they ger a customer on the phone they can be rather rude. Anyway, they stated that they ...
...soon as received would send another picture. To cut a very long story short , we kept receiveing the incorrect picture, we did find out that they system had the picture numbers around the wrong way so when you ordered something you get something else. When i spoke to customer service i was informed that they do not know about these things until a customer informs them. Well as of this date (16/01/05) this still has not been resolved and has been ...

Management Fail to Deliver Yet Again

Advantages: Quick to Order Goods
Disadvantages: Never Receiving Any Goods at all or are delivered 6 months down the line

Whilst we started with the JD.Williams catalogue we had a very good responce to our orders which were sent out by their little group of couriers but since they started using the Royal Male a lot of our orders have gone missing in the post, and the same goes for their other catalogue Shapely Figures, when using the customer services all they can tell you is to await the 28 days or RE-ORDER what's the use of re-ordering if they cannot fulfill the ...

Unhappy bunny

Advantages: Good choice
Disadvantages: Poor service

I have bought several items from the JD Williams catalogue, some have been fine, but on one occasion I was sent a dirty pair of shoes which had to be returned and on another occasion I was sent the wrong goods (ie ordered a pair of shoes and received a pack of 52DD bras!!!) I returned the bras and reordered the shoes. They have charged 2 pairs of shoes to my account, and to date, one month later, my account has not been credited for the bras I sent ...
