Advantages Advantages a guilt-free treat, delicious

Disadvantages Disadvantages they tend to break easily, boring if you eat them too often

My future mother-in-law is a gem. Somehow she always manages to provide me exactly with what I am looking for. I tell her about my fear of flying, she comes up with Bach's Rescue Remedy. I am looking for Mr. Right, she provides me with my fiancé. I am looking for a low-calorie snack to satisfy my sweet tooth with - she comes up with … Iced Gems! ♥ The product ♥ When I first spotted these little gems in her kitchen, I was not attracted to them very much. The primarily blue and white packaging frankly looks cheap with its Tesco shopping bag-like plastic. It is decorated like ... more

Advantages Advantages tasty, good value for money

Disadvantages Disadvantages small, not very filling

As a child my lunchbox was always so boring. I mean when you look at the magazines these days they suggest putting in cherry tomatoes and hummus and home-made biscuits and things. All very well but who has the time for that? Not my mum. When I was at school my lunchbox was so boring it verged on depressing. Crackers and cheese and a KitKat or Penguin or Viscount. Not for me the little mini bags of cookies or other such delights. I was reduced to scrounging them (well they offered me) off other children. This is how I was introduced to Iced Gems. I eventually persuaded my mum to get me some but ... more

Advantages Advantages tasty low in fat treat

    Disadvantages Disadvantages small bags

I am always on the hunt for low fat things that taste good are sweet and that can fill me up. On my search I came across an old friend, the Ice Gem. As a child I used to eat these a lot and they were one of my favourite things to find in my lunch box, and now I understand why mum used to buy them. I came across them in Tesco's while looking down the biscuit isle for something a little bit different but at the same time not too fattening. The Ice Gems immediately stood out. They come in a multi pack of 6 bags for £1.19p but can be brought singularly for around 30 pence. I was peckish on the ... more

Advantages Advantages Sweet, ideal lunch box snack or party food

Disadvantages Disadvantages Biscuits with no icing on top.

My children love to share a packet of Iced gems, if I'm lucky or they may insist on a whole packet each which means the packet of 6 mini packets isn't going to last long. I have also been know to allow my daughter to take them to school as I feel they are better than actual sweets which are a no-go for school lunches as far as I am concerned. Anyway after getting them delivered from tesco's at a cost of 98p for a packet containing 6 individual 30g bags, I decided they could spare me one bag for me, all me and nobody but me. ***Packaging*** This particular packet came with some free stickers to ... more

Advantages Advantages The biscuits are bite-size, Easier to find in multipacks, Kids love 'em, Educational Games

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough in the packet, Can be tough crunching

I absolutely love Iced gems. Always have done, always will do. That's probably why I find myself sitting down to write this review when i should really be booking people in for their training appointments, but nevermind. *** So Why Did I Choose Iced Gems? *** I am really bad with the sweet snacks and biscuits and basically find that the bigger the packet, the happier I am because I am quite content to sit there and scoff the lot whilst I still have a great figure. However, the problem with the larger packets of biscuits, like Maryland for example, give outsiders the impression that they are to ... more

    Advantages Advantages Taste, Familiarity

    Disadvantages Disadvantages n/a

I used to love Iced Gems as a kid and in a moment of nostalgia I bought a multi-pack of them in Tesco a few weeks ago. The multi-pack contains 6 individual packets of Iced Gems, each containing 25g of goodness. The multipack cost a meagre £1.30. The packaging of the multi-pack is light blue and turquoise and has a picture of a cartoon polar bear. I guess they're aiming for the cute factor but I just felt that it looked a bit weird. As the saying goes 'don't judge a book by the cover' and the contents more than make up for the poor packaging. The individual packets have the exact same design ... more

Advantages Advantages Yumminess; reminiscences, different colours to keep you amused...

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sugar and colours, but hey - that's what makes them so scrummilicious.

Okay, so the title's not the most inspired but all the saucy ones I came up with were too near the mark even for ciao! Anyhow, with a product like this no gimmics are required. For most of us they're already imbued with images of childhood excitement.........for others of us, this excitement lives on! What are you on about? Well, first off you need to keep your eyes peeled in the biscuit section of the supermarket for a long blue packet on a par with multibags of crisps in terms of design. You know you've found the correct treasure as grinning from the side of the bag will be a very chirpy ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, kid friendly, lovely flavours; low fat and calorie

Disadvantages Disadvantages not enough flavours; iced gems tend to fall off

These are my classic childhood biscuit snack; the kind of treat that made me smile when I opened my lunchbox at school. These certainly are a child friendly biscuit treat and are evidently marketed at children, but his didn’t stop me popping a multitask of 6 for £1 into my trolley at Asda. They are like the ‘Haribo’ of biscuits, in that kids and adults love them! Jacobs Iced gems are basically small chunky digestive biscuit’s the size of a button, topped with a crunchy fruit flavoured icing blob. The icing blobs are evidently piped onto the biscuit and are shaped like little spider webs. Some ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages hard to find

I always remember Iced Gems from a young age. Yesterday I ate the first packet of them I had ever eaten in a long time. These biscuits were introduced by Peek Freans and until 1910 these biscuits did not have icing on top. From 1910 onwards they were iced and Jacobs named them Iced Gems. The icing is made from sugar and egg whites mixed together and as unpleasant as it sounds they do make a great taste, so sweet and damaging to teeth. My youngest memory of these was in primary school at the time there was a competition if you had a bag of the white gems you would win a prize. So they had taken ... more

Iced gems started life in Reading at Huntley and Palmers factory .The company was Huntley and Palmers till 1970 when it joined Jacobs and Peak Freans to form associated biscuits in 1989 the company was acquired by Danone. The company now is called the Jacobs bakery. These little biscuits began life as a biscuit called gems. They were produced when Huntley and palmers were experimenting with biscuit technology in 1850. They use the ingredients wheat flour, sugar, vegetable oil, salt, milk protein, citric acid and flavourings. A small shrunken biscuit about 1.5cm in diameter was produced. They ... more
