Advantages Advantages Good ride over rough ground, built to last, easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not the smallest folded, not ideal for shopping trips

(Edited 6/5/06 to include some comments from experience on the brakes, front wheel lock, raincover and off-roading!) (2nd Edit 2/7/06 - now I realise how the front brake REALLY works, do'oh!) After some research my wife and I bought a Jane Slalom Pro Matrix travel system for our baby daughter (born November 2005). This review concentrates on the pushchair/chassis, I've done another one for the Matrix seat so that I can be more specific in each. Why did we go for this system? - We thought that a "travel system" would suit us best - We wanted something suitable for going longer distances over ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, quite compact, robust, nice to push, fits in the boot of my fiesta!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages The seat is quite big for a small baby

When we found out i was pregnant with my first child in 2006 we spent months searching for the right pushchair, and the right pushchair we found. Although it was quite expensive then (they have come down in price considerably since) it was worth every penny. We bought the 'Matrix carseat' (which lies flat) to go with it to use as a pram, this feature we found to be excellent. My son preferred being in this carseat to anywhere else and as it lay flat i felt happy leaving him in it, he even slept in it occassionally at night when he wouldn't settle. The carseat is quite a bit bigger than the ... more

Advantages Advantages Large seat unit, light to push, sturdy, handle height adjustment.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Heavy lifting in and out of car boot.

I have had the Jane Slalom since my daughter was 9 months old. Was previously using the Jane powertwin. It has been a brilliant pushchair which is so light and easy to push on any surface. It folds compact and all wheels click off to make it even smaller. The seat unit is huge and is suitable for newborns as goes flat. It has a large hood which can be unzipped at the back and used as a sun canopy. The handle height is adjustable. I habe also the Jane buggy board which is really easy to attach. The only disadvantage I have found is that the frame is quite heavy in and out of the car but ... more

Advantages Advantages Lay flat car seat, good manouvreability, large shopping basket

Disadvantages Disadvantages Heavy carry cot, fiddly car seat fittings

We purchased the Jane Slalom Matrix Pro for our son on the grounds that it fitted all criteria we were after, namely it had a lie flat car seat, it converted from pram to pushchair and it looked good. We have just moved him into the front facing pushchair (he is 5 months) as he was out growing the carry cot and was wanting to be more upright. Overall I have been happy with the Slalom, the main reasons being: * the frame is relatively light and fits into the boot of my Clio * it is very easy to manouevre and even the tightest of corners can be navigated one handed * the ability to move sleeping ... more

Advantages Advantages Versatile system, Wheels are good on any ground.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Size when folded, fabrics cannot go in the washing machine.

Purchased our Jane Slalom in May 2005 in Rojo - just before they brought out the 'pro' enhancements which was a bit annoying. We started off using the Matrix on the chassis, which was great for long journeys in lie flat mode and transferring to the chassis with little disturbance. Very snug for tiny babies with its own hood and apron. As my little one's back got stronger I could raise the back for her to see the world go by. However we were soon to find out that the matrix is unsuitable for some vehicles in the upright car seat mode due to seat belt length, and so in our Volvo our little girl ... more

Advantages Advantages None over over brands

Disadvantages Disadvantages Uneasy, uncomfortable, premium price

This pushchair / travel system has far to many problems to demand the high price that it does. Basically Car seat positions both flat and upright are very uneasy to put in situ, even when time isnt an issue, I can see that on a rainy wind swept day, lots of parents rushing and fitting the seat incorrectly and dangerously. It should have been better designed. On top of that, the breathability of the fabric is very poor, baby sweats no matter what temp the car is. It is heavy and the upright seating position is very uncomfortable for your child. To wrap the review up, To Pricey To Fidley ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good sturdy buggy

Disadvantages Disadvantages aftercare service - leaves a lot to be desired

We've had mixed feelings about this buggy. The basic buggy is good but we've had some problems with the aftercare. One was on the car seat element where the handle failed. This was sent back to Jane and came back repaired with a £35 bill. Their excuse was that it was forced. We were always wary of this and due took care. We had a large baby (shade under 10lbs) and feel that for the money paidm the mechanism should be able to cope with a large childer being carried around in the car seat. Another gripe we have is the wheels, we've had a split in one of the rear wheel tyres. As the previous ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to fold and operate

Disadvantages Disadvantages noisy parking brake, and fixed front wheel

Generally we are happy with this model. But it has two negative features. One is the parking brake which is positioned wrongly towards the back-wheels and makes the pushchair noisy in movement. The brake and wheels touch each other slightly during movement and thus they make a permanent click-click noise. The second problem we experienced is the button which fixes the position of the front wheel (straight or 360 flexibility). This button jumps very easily by itself from the flexible to the fixed position. If you prefer a flexible front wheel you need to adjust it very very often. This could be ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to manouvre, large and comfy for baby.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Bulky when folded

We bought this in march 2006 after comparing it to the cheaper Quinny 3 wheeler and the supposedly versatile bugaboo. The footplate on the quinny looked like it would fall off and after about 6 shop assistants tried and failed to successfully alter the bugaboo from pram to pushchair, we settled on the jane slalom pro. We wanted a travel system and you can buy all the extras to make the slalom pro into a versatile travel system. It can be a pushchair, pram, has infant carrier which easily clicks into buggy or you can even buy a sit up car seat which converts into a lie flat one, great for weak ... more
