Advantages: Great bottle, lasts ages, smells great, gets loads of attention Disadvantages: Quite pricey, a bit camp
Jean Paul Gautiere Le Male (“JPG”) is one of my favourite fragrances of all time. I was first made aware back at college after being offered a tester in a hypermarche on an excursion to France. As soon as I got back to England I had to buy some and I have not looked back since.
****Packaging****
JPG has the funkiest bottle of all time. Forget about Hugo Boss and the spherical bottle (the actual name escapes me), forget about the special edition ... ...suppose that it wouldn’t be Jean Paul if this part of the bottle is missing (he did co-host Euro Trash after all). There is even a well toned butt on the back.
The bottle is blue striped, most fragrance bottles are clear, therefore it also bucks the trend in this respect.
The bottle is so recognisable that anyone who knows the JPG brand will instantly recognise it. The bottle doesn’t even state what it is on it because it is so distinctive.

Jean Paul Gaultier 'Le Male' comes in a silver tin with the 'Jean Paul Gaultier' label embossed on the front. You can pull the bottom of the tin off, and the bottle of aftershave sits in a stand on the base, which is attached to the base of the tin. ...price and packaging (the trademark Jean Paul Gautier tin) I left for home to test my new product. The outer packaging consisting of a steel tin is both practical and aesthetically pleasing to touch and eye. Upon opening the product, I discovered that the base of the tin contained a plastic clip that secures the glass bottle safely to the tin. At first appearing camper than a row of tents, I was relived to find that most of Jean Paul’s perfume products are shaped in such a ‘stylish’ manner.
The glass itself is easy to grip and stronger than it first appears, after dropping the bottle from sink height several times I haven’t noticed the slightest chip or mark. The steel spray mechanism is also hardy and ...

Advantages: Sexy smell, long lasting, great design, women love it! Disadvantages: none
I first bought this aftershave for my partner over 2 years ago, and neither of us have tired of it since. I bought it after a friend recommending it and I am so glad that I did!
THE PACKAGING
Ok, the baked bean tin exterior isn't perhaps the most original casing for a fragrance (although perhaps a useful storage pot!), but the actual bottle of JPG Le Male has become an icon because of it's unique, sexy design. It looks great on display, and I even ... ...alongside an empty JPG Classique bottle (the female equivalent, also in an attractive body-shaped bottle but in a dusky pink!). It looks much more stylish than many other perfume bottles around.
THE SMELL
Firstly, it is distinctive. I work in a bar and even in the smoky atmosphere I can still tell immediately when a customer is wearing it! That said, it is not overpowering - it is a light and lingering fragrance. I think the smell is sophisticated ...

Advantages: Smells great, doesn't wear off too quickly, unique scent Disadvantages: None
A few months ago I tried “le male” in duty free and fell in love with the light, refreshing scent instantly. So you can imagine my delight when I was given a bottle of le male for my birthday.
Up until now I had been a bit of a cheapskate when it came to fragrances, me and my mates would quietly walk into Boots or wherever and ask for a free sample of something or if there was none we would sneak in Boots before meeting some girls and make the most ... ...those days are over though, no tiny free sample bottles for me and no sneaking into Boots for the tester. I can just watch my mates do that and laugh…
Anyway a bit about le male. It has a very fresh and mild scent but despite that it does not wear off too quickly. The smell is unique; I think that’s the only word to describe it. Its different to any other fragrance I’ve used before, it has a sweet smell and reminded me of my Lynx Gravity deodorant ...

Advantages: A well known sexy scent Disadvantages: None (a first for me)
I first tried this scent last year when I went to Portugal and had some left over currency. I went to a perfumery (or after shavery in my case) and tried nearly all the after shave or male eau de toilette and I fell in love with this one.
The smell is very distinct in a good way. I was once working in a busy smokey Subway Sandwich shop and a girl in the cue started kicking up a fuss trying to find out who was wearing Le Male. I was impressed with ... ...scent stands out above all the smoke and food. My female workmate also grabs me everytime I wear this scent so she can get a good smell of it.
I am no expert so I cannot describe the scent like Jilly Goolding could with wine. I will just say it is very nice and very sexy. If you are sexy the scent will make you even sexier. If you are not sexy - wear this scent and it gives you big pulling power.
Now if you decide to go out and buy this, it come ...

Advantages: Great Scent & Attracts The Ladies Disadvantages: Can be expensive.
Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male (eau de toilette) is a fantastic product that is guaranteed to knock the socks off the ladies. This fragrance is phenomonal and is growing in popularity.

Advantages: the whole thing Disadvantages: none at all
I am the most fussy person when it comes to buying aftershaves, none of them seem to suit me. They are either too sweet, too woody, wear off quickly or just plain horrid. That's where JPG suprised me.
First of all you can see the very stylish bottle, which is a mans torso dressed in a sailors outfit, complete with the tin it comes in (which almost looks like a tin of baked beans with the label ripped off!)
Then the important part - the fragrance ... ...unique. It has a sweet yet woody smell to it, also it has an oriental fragrance not too dissimilar to vanilla. Whilst it is very masculine, it strangly has quite a feminine side to it. Which leads me on to the 'Le female' fragrance.
My girlfriend tried it because she loved the mens fragrance so much that she decided to try the female version. It compliments it wonderfully. It's very sweet but not to flowery, which is horrible in a womens perfume. ...

On smelling Jean Paul Gautier is is hard to actually describe what kind of smell wanders up my nostrils. Although i couldn't answer that it was immediately on my Christmas wish list as my aftershave for 2001. This is an aftershave which i find having to not put gallons on as it is very strong ... ...fragrence is one of sweetness put not being an expert that is open to disscusion, but it really seems to catch the noses of my mates and other fellow female friends and my girlfriend finds herself very attached when i have it on! Thats one big advantage straight away then! She always tells me that when you cannot smell your aftershave but someone else can it is a sure fire winner and that most definately happens with JPG.
The bottle itself is very ...

Advantages: Sweet smell, attractive packaging Disadvantages: exclusivity is waning
If I were to say the name "Jean-Paul Gaultier", what would you think? Would you think, "top designer, great clothes!" or would you think "didn't he present Eurotrash with Antoine De Caunes? I swear he was gay!".
Personally, I would have thought the latter. Yes, he did present Eurotrash (quite well, might I add), but top designer, great clothes? No, no, no, no, bloody no! Walk into any West London shop (if you can afford it!) and take a look around. ... ...be!
However, old Jean-Paul does have some redeeming features.
On a business trip some time ago, I was wandering around the duty free shop (we going back some time! This was when we HAD "Duty Free"!) and I saw this "gay limbless blue sailor" sitting behind the counter. This is one of the products plus points. If the packaging wasn't unusual, I probably wouldn't have given it a second look. Intrigued, I asked for a sample. The kind lady, didn't just ...

...was bought a bottle of Jean Paul Gaultier le Male for his birthday and I can honestly say it is the best perfume for men I have ever smelt.
The scent is like no other I've smelt before and once you smell it you can tell it anywhere. It is very unusual and difficult to describe, It's light and fresh with a twist of tangyness, I know that's vague, but all I know is that when I smell that on a man, it makes you turn your head.
It is quite expensive, ... ...no ordinary box to house this little beauty, it comes in a tin, much like a tin of beans without the label on and is very good and eyecatching.

This smells gorgeous. It's a fragrance that has me weak at the knees with the first sniff. It goes extremely well with the Jean-Paul Gaultier female scent, which I wear myself, and the bottles look so cute together on the dressing table. The designer "baked bean tin" that the bottle comes in is a design classic, as is the clever torso shaped bottle. The actual scent itself is heavy to begin with, then as it blends into your skin turns into a wonderful musky-sweet smell. From a women point of view this is one of the most alluring male fragances available. The over powering smell of brut or old spice have made way for a more subtle but masculine scent which wont knock you or your girlfriend out at twelve paces. Since Jean Paul Gaultier's first men's collection, he has shown men that they can indulge more
in the forbidden, and that a kilt or dress can be worn with virility. A reminder to them that nothing in life is totally black or white but always a blend. Just as he made the woman in a corset as the symbol and bottle of his feminine fragrance, Jean Paul Gaultier now transforms the man in a sailor's T-shirt into both the symbol and bottle of Le Male. Notes include Wormwood, Bergamot, Cardamom, Lavender, Orange Blossom, Cinnamon, Cumin, Wood, Musk, Amber, Vanilla, Tonka Bean.
