ABOUT THE GAME: Jenga is the classic wooden building block game that has become loved around the world. The Manufacturer's minimum age recommendation is 5 years old which seems about right to me. One interesting fact is that the name JENGA was derived from a Swahili word meaning "to build". HOW TO SET UP JENGA: JENGA is a game made out of 54 precision wooden blocks. You set the game up by laying 3 wooden blocks side by side as the first level (large part of the block horizontal to the floor) and then stacking the tower up, always switching the blocks so that you have one with the end at the ... more

Advantages Advantages Can be fun for both children and adults. A trusted and reliable game.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be frustrating if you do not have a steady hand!

Jenga. Jenga is a brilliant game that combines patience and fine manual dexterity. It is recommended that this game is suitable for those over the age of five. It can be found on line from £9 upwards. What is Jenga? A similar game is reported to have been played for years by the Swahili in Africa where blocks of wood are placed together building a tower like structure. Pieces of wood are gingerly removed from the stable structure then placed on the top building it higher but leaving the structure weakened and prone to tumbling. The aim of the game is to remove as many pieces as is possible ... more

I would just like to write a little review on Jenga, which is a great family game to play but is only really suitable for those children who are old enough or mature enough to play it without the simple aim of knocking it down as soon as it has been built! There is no real limit as to how many people can play it, but I think that really you should exercise a little common sense in realising that twenty people is not an ideal number in which to have in order to play this game! Made up of 54 rectangular blocks of wood that are about one and a half inches long by about half an inch high all ... more

Advantages Advantages fun for all the family, hard wearing

Disadvantages Disadvantages can be a pain to set up

Jenga is one of those games that either everyone has played or at least heard of, it’s a classic. What makes it such a classic in my opinion is that it is a game that is easy to understand and can be played by all the family. What is Jenga? Jenga is a game that is based around 54 wooden blocks. Each block measures 1.5×2.5×7.5 cm making them 3 times as long as they are wide. These blocks are placed in rows on 3 one row on top of the other in order to create a tower. One row will be vertical, the next horizontal, this pattern continues throughout the tower until the 18 levels are in place. The ... more

    Advantages Advantages Traditional family fun.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lost blocks, no one wants to put it away.

A couple of years ago the husband and I decided to give the children a more traditional theme to the Christmas presents, we picked out lots of board games and among the one’s we chose was Jenga. A quick look on Amazon.co.uk tells me that Jenga currently retails at £10.99 with free delivery. There are also quite a few cheaper versions of Jenga called things like, “Towering Blocks” and “Tumbling Tower Blocks” retailing at lower prices, but I personally recommend the original by Hasbro. My Jenga set came in a cardboard box, the new sets come in a sturdy looking cardboard tube. To be honest I ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's hard to set up the tower if no-one's sober!

[Anyone who finds the last bit a little uncomfortable, please note that this was written *before* 9/11!] Now here's a game that won't break the bank... but the table might not be so lucky! Jenga, like all the best party games, is very simple in concept but a great deal more difficult to play really well. You can pick it up for well under a tenner, so in terms of fun per pound it's difficult to beat. Okay, that's enough from cliché corner for now, so let's get on to the game itself. Jenga consists of 54 long thin pieces of wood, each about the size and shape of a chocolate bar. That, except for ... more

Sometimes there are games that we love, ones that we become obsessed with and do everything in our powers to influence the game. These options are lovely. However there are also those which I hate - ones that I shudder at the sheer thought of playing them simply because they're so mind numbingly dull. One of these games is Jenga. Now I have to point out here that Jenga is not a 'bad' game - you can tell this by the amount of variations on it and stores that stock it. I am actually the only person to know who does not like this game. The only thing I like about it is the fact that it gets a ... more

Another day another challenge. This time it is a games challenge from bizzetto . He suggested I reviewed a board game but there are no board games in our household. Actually thinking g about it that is a shame as there are so many good ones about! However I do have Jenga which is the nearest thing to a board game that I own so thought that would fulfill the challenge. I love Jenga. I first discovered it round my friend Meg’s chalet in fourth year at university. When I was supposed to be researching and writing history essays on topics such as the fall of Gaelic in the Scottish Highlands in the ... more

The game is Jenga, the idea is to build the highest tower possible, the problem is watching your steady hand tumble the entire stack onto the surrounding area. Interested, well that’s the sheer tension, enjoyment and banter that can be gained from playing this incredible simplistic game. * How To Play * To start the game you have to place each corresponding block in row’s of three with each layer facing at right angles to the previous. Once all the tiles have been stacked the tension really starts. Basically the player has to remove a block from the stack and place it at the top ... more
