    Advantages Advantages Fabulous staff

Disadvantages Disadvantages Smaller stores have limited secondhand ranges

Now, those of you who have read my ops before will know I have a marked tendency to get quite opinionated. I do not ever like being in a position where I don't know what I'm talking about and will always bluff if I think I can get away with it. But there are some areas where even I have to throw up my hands and - horror of horrors - actually trust an expert. Such an area is the world of photography. I have wanted to get into photography for a while. Partly for professional reasons, and partly because an ex of mine once pissed me off by buying me a camera with just one button on the basis it ... more

Advantages Advantages good prices, photos come out well

Disadvantages Disadvantages poor customer service and staff who don't know their cameras in my local branch, not enough staff and rude

They have stores on the high street and they also have a website which you can browse and order from. Advantages Advantages vast range of stock for all areas of photo and video, often knowledgeable staff, very keen prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages photo processing is often slow and unreliable 'off-site'

...Or maybe a Lens and a roll of film. READ ON >>> As a Professional photographer, I am always buying consumables (film, batteries etc) plus I also need to update equipment or add to my existing stuff. I must say I always find the Jessops branches in my area and elsewhere, when I'm travelling, to be perfect for my needs. First of all the selection of goods available. All branches seem to nowadays carry both Still photographic equipment – film based as well as digital – plus a burgeoning range of video equipment. Most medium size branches will carry a broad range of hobbyist cameras ... more

Advantages Advantages huge range and there's bound to be a store near you

Disadvantages Disadvantages maybe not always the cheapest option

Over recent years the Jessops conglomerate has expanded to over 195 stores throughout the UK and aims to continue to completely monopolise the photography-inspired nation. So far I would say they’ve not done a bad job. Having relied on some of their services while studying photography at a Glasgow college, I was previously aware of most of their products. Now they have moved closer to home by opening a fairly large store in my hometown of East Kilbride. However, it wasn’t long after this that a few shops along the shopping mall, poor old Tom Dickson Cameras folded under the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Helpful shop.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None.

In my last opinion, I told you about my purchase of a Digital Camera. I do a lot of research when I buy something because I do not have excess funds to waste. I went to Jessops in Plymouth High Street to ask their advice on a camera because I had narrowed my choice down to two and was not sure of the advantages and disadvantages. I entered the shop and they were very busy, as most large shops are, though I was dealt with very quickly and efficiently. The gentleman explained the difference between the two cameras and even let me try both of them to see which I was most comfortable with. Their ... more

Advantages Advantages large range of new and second hand goods

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

When you think about photography you think about Kodak, when you think about purchasing a camera you think Jessops. Jessops is probably the only nationwide camera specialist left in the high street. This was the first place that I looked in when I wanted to by myself a new camera. The first thing that you notice is the huge range of camera, video cameras and digital cameras that they stock. They also stock all the accessories that you would ever need from films, to carrying cases, to stands and for the specialist filters and lenses. I went in looking for a camera around £80 and the range did ... more

Advantages Advantages Knowledgable staff that care about the customer

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

Generally, i find Jessops to be a great shop for your photographic needs. The staff are very knowledgable on their products, which is a great help if, like me, you know very little about photography. Also i have found them very helpful with after sales service and just queries in general. (I got a film stuck in a camera and they managed to get it out for me without ruining the pictures) I cannot speak for all branches of Jessops but the one in my local high street offers a film developing service. They do a next day service for £4.49 which is a pretty average price but they give you a free ... more

Advantages Advantages The staff know what there talking about

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough stores

From the moment you enter any Jessops store you are met by someone with a big friendly smile that on it's own says what type of service your going to get at teh shop. The sales staff have it right, from there knowladge of most of the products they sell and even a lot of things they don't to the way they explaine about guarentee's on equipment etc you get the feeling that they actually care about you as a customer something thats missing from a lot of high street shops now days. So if your looking for photographic equipment at the right price with the service that is hard to beat you can look ... more

A Jessops store has recently opened in my home town, the first audio visual retailer to arrive for a number of years. In the past if I had wanted to buy a camera or accessory I could go to Dixons or Comet etc. Fine until you need help, this is where Jessops wins easily. The staff have been well trained and are interested in you, the customer. If an individual employee cannot answer your question, they seek out a colleague who can. Jessops take time to source what you are after, on one occassion they even recommended a cheaper alternative. The range of goods on offer is excellent, with the ... more

Advantages Advantages Comprehensive, up to date

Disadvantages Disadvantages sometimes takes a while to be served

I pretty much fell for Jessops (the New Oxford street branch) back in the early 90s when i was studying photography in Regent street, they were specialist enough to help me out with arcane technical jargon and kit while being approachable enough for me to reccomend them to anyone looking for entry level equipment.Since then i've never succesfully walked past the shop, ever. The comprehensiveness of their stock, even with digital imaging, video and emerging photographic products is unparralelled by any other shop. The only slight downside is that it can take a while to be attended to at times ... more
