Jessops is a chain of stores that sell both new and secondhand photography equipment. The store I went to was on New Oxford Street, a big branch that has a huge second-hand section: exactly what I was looking for. I was a bit worried about coming across like a completely clueless girlie, but decided to go for it anyway. And boy was I in for a pleasant surprise.
Jessops is one of those stores ... ...knowledge and service elsewhere. If Jessops ran shops for computers and mobiles, I'd be there like a shot. No gimmicks, no spotty sales boys who don't know the first thing about anything, just unpretentious and friendly staff who know exactly what they are talking about and are extremely generous with their time. Jessops was founded in 1935 and is now the UK's largest photographic retailer. There are now more than 290 stores nationwide and the whole groups turns over in excess of £320 million. They have stores on the high street and they also have a website which you can browse and order from.
Jessops sell a wide range of cameras and video cameras -both digital and film and offer a huge selection of accessories and memory cards etc. They also offer develpoing ... ...other high street film developers Jessops wins hands down. Photo's are clear and the quality is good - they are printed onto Fuji photographic paper. They have a high gloss (unless you chose the matte option!) and are reasonably priced starting at £4.99 to have a 24 picture film developed and printed onto 6''x4'' paper. ...say I always find the Jessops branches in my area and elsewhere, when I'm travelling, to be perfect for my needs. First of all the selection of goods available. All branches seem to nowadays carry both Still photographic equipment – film based as well as digital – plus a burgeoning range of video equipment. Most medium size branches will carry a broad range of hobbyist cameras, from top of the range 35mm SLRs (Canon Eos Iv - £1450, plus ... ...saying that all branches of Jessops will offer a huge array of Film, - both still camera and Video – batteries, photo albums and frames – in fact everything under the sun for picture takers of all kinds.
Jessops stocks a wide range of items as ‘own brand’, some of which I have used myself. They are always cheaper than the ‘marque’ brands and often pretty much indistinguishable from the ‘real thing’.

Over recent years the Jessops conglomerate has expanded to over 195 stores throughout the UK and aims to continue to completely monopolise the photography-inspired nation.
So far I would say they’ve not done a bad job. Having relied on some of their services while studying photography at a Glasgow college, I was previously aware of most of their products. Now they have moved closer to home by opening a fairly large store in my hometown of ... ...it seemed to me that Jessops no longer had to compete with printing prices and these duly increased in price a short time later.
Jessops boast in their mail order catalogue a product range of over 20,000 – while I’m not prepared to count this to prove them right or wrong, I would definitely say the range seems endless.

I went to Jessops in Plymouth High Street to ask their advice on a camera because I had narrowed my choice down to two and was not sure of the advantages and disadvantages.
I entered the shop and they were very busy, as most large shops are, though I was dealt with very quickly and efficiently. The gentleman explained the difference between the two cameras and even let me try both of them to see which I was most comfortable with. Their range ... ...I found products easily.
Jessops is the kind of shop that you get the impression is run by a family, although I believe it to be a large chain. You feel comfortable, and their staff go out of their way to help and advise someone like me that knows very little about technology.

...camera you think Jessops. Jessops is probably the only nationwide camera specialist left in the high street. This was the first place that I looked in when I wanted to by myself a new camera.
The first thing that you notice is the huge range of camera, video cameras and digital cameras that they stock. They also stock all the accessories that you would ever need from films, to carrying cases, to stands and for the specialist filters and lenses. ... ...bough two years before for £300, I was pleased as I had found a real bargain.
If anyone were thinking about purchasing a new camera I would recommend Jessops as they are, in my mind the best camera shop around with a large range of goods and knowledgeable staff. ...

Generally, i find Jessops to be a great shop for your photographic needs. The staff are very knowledgable on their products, which is a great help if, like me, you know very little about photography. Also i have found them very helpful with after sales service and just queries in general.
(I got a film stuck in a camera and they managed to get it out for me without ruining the pictures)
I cannot speak for all branches of Jessops but the one in ... ...good.
Jessops not only deal with new goods but also with quality second hand equipment so you can pick up some good bargains, and they are usually quite willing to offer a reasonable discount on multi purchases if it is not a standard package deal that you are after. ...

...the moment you enter any Jessops store you are met by someone with a big friendly smile that on it's own says what type of service your going to get at teh shop.

I pretty much fell for Jessops (the New Oxford street branch) back in the early 90s when i was studying photography in Regent street, they were specialist enough to help me out with arcane technical jargon and kit while being approachable enough for me to reccomend them to anyone looking for entry level equipment.Since then i've never succesfully walked past the shop, ever.

A Jessops store has recently opened in my home town, the first audio visual retailer to arrive for a number of years. In the past if I had wanted to buy a camera or accessory I could go to Dixons or Comet etc. Fine until you need help, this is where Jessops wins easily. Jessop's are the undoubtably the best highstreet retailer for all your audio and visual needs. I have been a loyal customer of Jessop's for around 2 years now and found that their staff are bery competent and knowedgeable about what the sell.
As I mentioned above, Jessop's staff are all very well trained and know what they are talking about when you ask them a question. Whether you have a technical worry about your equipement or a general question, ... ...Jessop's have a tremendous buying power which allows them to pass on un-beatable deals to new and existing customers. I have bought several products for my Canon EOS 500n from Jessop's who in a few cases, were kind enough to order in products for me. Jessop's can also arrange photography course's if there is a great enough demand, they look for the newest products not to mention stocking older one's for the more dedicated photography.

I went along to my local Jessops to put the information to the test. The sales assistant/manager obliged and possibly made one of his quickest sales to date. He offered me the camera at the reduced price. In-store service was polite and very useful, I had the camera out for testing, asked about accessories and basically ... ...major purchase at this particular Jessops store, was, from memory just as straightforward and satisfying. This was when purchasing my first digital compact camera.
I had full engagement from the manager, no wondering back and forth to other customers as other staff were readily available (very encouraging from this particular small branch) he was able to not only discount the camera, but threw-in optional extras at no extra cost. The service really ...

When I went in the Jessop kiosk, it appeared to be designed for self-service, and it proved extremely easy to use. With slots for Compact Flash and SmartMedia cards, Memory Sticks, CD-ROMs, floppy disks and Zip drives, it seemed to have all the different media types covered with the exception of SD memory cards, as fitted to some of my ... ...longer, and in the end Jessops had to send the prints on by overnight post…
Jessops were good enough to provide a £5 gift voucher for the inconvenience, but it was still a disappointing experience. It demonstrated too, how digital camera users like myself won’t get any preferential treatment just because their job is simpler.
In a ideal world, digital printing kiosks could be entirely self-contained, spitting out finished prints in the same way ...

Jessops do a very good 2nd hand shelf. All their secondhand equiptment is tested and guaranteed.
Why Jessops, in my opinion, has the edge on my list of camera shops is that if you are searching for a particular 2nd hand item, you go to one of their shops and they will find out if it is in stock in any of their other stores throughout the country and then get it for you. I regularly develop my photos there because I find it the cheapest shop to develop them in. The staff know what they are talking about unlike other shops and they are very helpful. The prices are low compared to other retailers such as local chemist, or boots or other shops and they offer one hour service which sometimes can be helpful but is quite expensive.
