Almost every town has one

AdvantagesGood range of stock, fantastic customer service, outstanding D+P 'Diamond Laser' service, price match promise

DisadvantagesThey have devoured the competition, moved towards the Dixons style, staff not as knowlegable as they were (see review), used equipment and traditional photography almost extinct, MAKE SURE YOU USE THAT PRICE PROMISE!

"...TEMPLE ROW STORE. I first encountered Jessops in Birmingham back in 1984 shortly after puchasing my very first SLR camera-a solar powered Ricoh called an XR-S (long obsolete),and hunting round Birmingham for a flashgun. Well I purchased the flash-a Nissin 4000GW (also long obsolete) and was absolutly delighted with the service I received and the incredible price I had at £69.90-a good £10 off the closest competitior Tecno who were subsequently ..." Smile!

AdvantagesGreat store, knowledgable staff, up to date range, competetive prices

DisadvantagesNone that I found

"...and went to the large Jessops store on Tottenham Court Road, dragging my more objective boyfriend with me. When I went in I found that they had a large range of cameras on display, they were also well displayed which meant that even before you asked for a demonstraion you could really get a good look at the different models they had on offer. I also like that I was pretty much left alone until I wanted to ask for help - there was no annoying sales ..." Read review

Video killed the radio star

AdvantagesUnbelievably helpful staff

DisadvantagesI'm showing my age with that title!

"Jessops have won Practical Photography magazine's 'People's Choice Award' for Best Photo Retailer for the last seven years, and it's not hard to see why. We have visited three different Jessops stores in the space of a month, on no less than ten different occasions in total, and all staff were exceedingly accommodating. Apart from one occasion, all staff were pretty knowledgeable, and the one time we did find ourselves with a chap who didn’t ..." Read review

Warning to buyers

AdvantagesNone

DisadvantagesMy Daughter never received her Birthday present

"Recently I purchased a Camera from their website. The advert stated 24 hour delivery. No Money will be taken from 'Your Account' until the item is dispatched. The first thing that should have warned me to question the honesty of this company was that the money was charged to my Debit card instantly (not at dispatch). 2 Weeks later still no sign of the Camera. So I phoned up to ask where it was. I was informed that they dont supply that model anymore! I ..." Read review

Film Processing - don't bother

AdvantagesNone

DisadvantagesNo films returned

"I took four films into Jessops for processing. These were of my daughter's wedding and there were three colour and one B&W. Jessops managed to lose all four films. Now losing one might be considered unlucky, but four is just incompetence. In my view the staff were uncaring, and came out with a long story about relabelling the packets, a story that changed depending on to whom I talked. There was no responsibility taken by the manager, indeed each ..." Read review

Canon IXUS stopped working within warranty - Jessops don't care

AdvantagesNone

DisadvantagesThey sell you faulty goods and then try to charge you for their repair

"I bought a camera from Jessops and it stopped working after only 10 months. I took it back to the store and after about three months I finally contacted them to ask what had happened. They said the warranty had been invalidated due to "corrosion" and wanted to charge me 150 pounds for repair. I pointed out that the camera had not come into contact with any corrosive agent and that they only explanation is that they sold me a good that was not fit ..." Read review

Jessops Online

AdvantagesEasy to buy online

DisadvantagesPossibility of supplying used/demo stock and passing off as new

"I recently ordered online, a new Canon 300mm f4L lens at a price of £850. What was sent was NOT new. It was packed incorrectly, the lens cap was scuffed, the front lens element was dusty and the box had a stock return label on it. In short, Jessup's sent a used/demo lens and tried to pass it off as new. It was subsequently sent back and replaced. I would have accepted this as a genuine mistake, but looking at other reviews, it would seem like normal ..." Read review
