John Lewis's, I wish I was rich!

Advantages: Good stock, classier than Debenhams!
Disadvantages: Not many stores around

...'pick me, pick me' was John Lewis. *****What's it like then***** The John Lewis I visited was a Solihull and was only opened in 2001. The store is 3 floors, with an art gallery above that has art for sale through the store. What I really appreciated was that at all entrance points to the store you should be able to find a map of the shop. Well there was a map available at the entrance that I used and I saw a few other map points at other entrances. ...
...the Solihull John Lewis' as it is a large store and rather than have many floors with a few departments on them there are less floors, which occupy a larger floor area, so it's quite easy to get lost. Armed with our map we ventured to the gift list section, which is also the area that deals with account payments and card problems. On our way we noticed that there was a gift wrapping service available too, which I thought was a nice little touch. ...

Where Quality Shines Through

Advantages: Superb department store with excellent service
Disadvantages: They aren't in every high street

...experience was their purchase from John Lewis. As I believe excellent service should be praised, I just had to write this op. I shall first explain why I ended up buying my electrical goods from John Lewis and will then explain about the store in general. In doing this I will first of all discuss some of the competitors in the electrical goods market so you can see why I chose to purchase in John Lewis. ~~~My brief~~~ To buy a TV, DVD Player and ...
...thought I’d better go to John Lewis which is also in the Harlequin centre of Watford. I was immediately faced with an excellent opportunity to examine the three televisions I was particularly interested in as they just happened to be sitting side by side. I stood back and looked at all three televisions and realised that the television I really wanted was indeed the more expensive Sony model, the quality of the picture was obviously superior ...

England v Spain

Advantages: John Lewis has a huge range...
Disadvantages: ...weirdly laid out

...will be fighting bitterly against John Lewis. Who El Corte Inglés are… Many of you will whinge that you have never heard of this place, but do not fear, that is okay, for do you expect me to ramble on about something that you may not have heard of without explaining it in excessive detail. The Spanish company have been in business for many a year and are always the top choice for the people of the Iberian peninsula. The shops are in the ...
...I am referring to the John Lewis in Kingston, Surrey. It’s not the largest store of their network but it IS the one I visit the most often therefore the one I discuss best. And the detail you need to know on the Spanish outlet of which I speak is that it is the one in Bilbao, in northern Spain and indeed the place of which I originate [or half, anyway] so no nasty comments or indeed you are dead. Appeal, Marketing, Parking and Attractiveness… ...

This little shopaholic's dream come true

Advantages: Price promise, Quality, Excellent Customer Service
Disadvantages: Don't do 'cheap'

...office is a branch of john Lewis. I grew up with the belief that for anything that we needed ‘to last’ could only be bought from john Lewis and my attitude has changed little since I allegedly grew up; I still feel this way. Any of you have read any of my other ops will now that I really, really love shopping. I love it so much that I have developed a bit of a talent for it, to the point that I now take girls I work with out at lunchtimes to help ...
...end of each summer holidays. John Lewis took the shop under its wing a few decades ago and it has grown steadily since; including, just a few years ago, a complete refit and expansion in size when they built over some the shabby old car park and installed a large multi-storey car park. If you can’t think where to buy something it is always worth trying bonds (as we still call it – JL dropped the name bonds only very recently and in the wilds of East ...

If only every store could be like them

Advantages: Customer service, extensive range of goods, helpful staff
Disadvantages: Not enough of thier stores around the country

...eight miles of their stores. John Lewis staff will take the time & trouble to show & demonstrate goods to the customer & are usually very informative on the products they sell. Try that elsewhere!! They also don't try & 'hard sell' warranties you don't want & never try to be pushy for a sale. Advantage John Lewis. Of course they sell more than electrical goods, they have an extensive range of men, women's & children's clothes & footwear, haberdashery, ...

They agreed a call out in 16 days time, as my mother is 81 living on her own & quite frail & ill she was concerned that she would have no cooker for 16 days. Why is a Question Mark a Special Character.....

Advantages: Good quality, excellent range of products
Disadvantages: can be more expensive (but for better quality goods)

...to start really. John Lewis is a department store, in which you can expect to find a large specialised perfume & beauty department; luggage, bags and wallets; stationary, cards and wrapping paper; games; sports equipment; clothes; haberdashery (sewing & craft stuff); electrical appliances; crockery, gifts, glasses, artwork, carpets, several clothes concessions, kitchenware, nursery things and I think that’s about it (phew, I think that's it ...
...A little history John Lewis is a part of John Lewis Partnership, with the partner being the subsidiary company Waitrose supermarkets. Last year, the annual turnover for JLP was a staggering over 4 billion with sales from the department stores accounting for £2138.0 million of that. A nice touch that the company has to make the employee feel important is not by addressing them as ‘employees’ but also as ‘partners’ and by the ...

...a new recruit to the John Lewis fan club. This is mainly because of up until recently there either hasn't been one near to me or I had yet to discover where they were. Firstly there is a large John Lewis in the Bluewater shopping centre in Dartford, Kent(30 miles away).Secondly I have discovered another one in Welwyn Garden City, Herts (18 miles away). Having visited both of them within the last two weeks I have been very impressed and this is ...

What impressed me was that the salesman I spoke to about the Camera was helpful and obviously clued up on all of the different makes.I asked lots of questions as I was undecided whether to buy a still Digital Camera or a Camcorder type.He went through a lot of different models for me and gave me some very useful advise. ...

One of the UK's best department stores

Advantages: Huge range of stock, cheap prices
Disadvantages: High interest rate on store card

I first came across John Lewis in Liverpool where I began my university course in 1981. Later when I moved to London in 1986 I began shopping at the John Lewis store in Oxford Street. John Spedan Lewis founded the store I think in the late 19th century. The company is privately owned amongst its employees who are known as partners. It has resisted going public in the past but may do so in the future. The store has seven floors nicely linked by ...
...frequent shoppers there is the John Lewis Store Card to spread the cost of purchases. But the APR is quite high for this card and you risk increasing your debt. The motto of John Lewis is ‘You are never knowingly undersold’. Store managers sometimes visit rival stores to check up on prices. The store has a policy of refunding any difference if an item is sold elsewhere cheaper. The store has a delivery service for bulky items. But this ...

...stores but I love the John Lewis partnership. It’s unique because it doesn’t have employees, it has ‘partners’ who share in the profits of the company and who therefore have a vested interest in serving the customer and getting repeat business. It’s a bit like a co-op and I like that in this day and age. But isn’t it expensive? A definitive answer – Yes and No. Yes, because they only sell quality goods and ...
...want a branded item, check them out. If you want a Curry’s special, forget it. No, because they really do mean their price promise “never knowingly undersold”. Find an item they sell cheaper elsewhere – even on the internet – and they’ll match the price. I can vouch for this as I saved over £450 on a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge and freezer that I bought last year by pointing out internet prices. No, because ...

What a department

Advantages: all under one roof
Disadvantages: few

John Lewis, never knowingly undersold! But how many times are they undersold? A question we cannot answer unless we do our own little survey. They state they will always refund the difference if the item could be purchased cheaper locally elsewhere. My local store is at High Wycombe, which sells virtually everything save food and clothing. Why not clothing you might ask? Well most J. Lewis stores do sell clothing but at High Wycombe there is an ...
...weird and wonderful ideas and they would not allow them to sell clothes. ( The local council's actions on many local issues around here beg the question of how many back handers are going on?! but that should be answered under another forum!). The electrical dept is second to none with a variety of items displayed, and two very good sound and vision rooms, where you can go in and wind the music right up without annoying other shoppers. The lighting ...

Never knowingly under sold

Advantages: Never Knowingly under sold
Disadvantages: Know the price of the product you want to buy, they maybe more expensive

My partner has a John Lewis account and it is very handy. I do not then need to carry too much cash when shopping. My friend often think that I am mad using this shop with comments "it is pricey", "what a snobby shop". I feel it is value for money. This shop rarely sells poor quality products and they do have a price pledge that they are never knowingly under sold. I am an avid collector of TY Beanie Babies (Yes, boring I know, but sorry I'm hooked). ...
...Centre, I saw one in John Lewis' window. I wanted it, but the only problem was it was 99.99 pound. Athena, across the way had one in their window for 79.99 pound. I went to the till, in John Lewis and asked why their was twenty pound more, but met with the reply that I should buy it and then contact head office, for the refund. I was really shocked and asked to speak to the department manager. He was pleasant but gave me the same reply. I pointed ...

The John Lewis store I am choosing to review is located in St David's Centre, Cardiff. John Lewis Cardiff recently opened it's doors on the 24th September 2009 and is Wales' largest department store. Myself and my boyfriend live in South Wales, so to visit John Lewis we would have to travel to Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, each time paying a small fortune in petrol and bridge toll. When the new John Lewis, Cardiff opened we were thrilled. It is only ...

As John Lewis is such a large store with such a range of products and services I have decided not to babble on with lists of departments and so on, as most people will already know that it is a department store, instead my review will focus on the Watch department as this is where I made my first purchase. The watch department is located on the first floor and is the area you meet once stepping off the escalator. It's an array ...

THE BEST BY POUNDS

Advantages: Cheaper
Disadvantages: ?

John Lewis is by far the best department store around. Everyone thinks of it as an expensive store, when in fact it beats most other electrical and department store by pounds!. Living in Bristol I have always had a local John Lewis however when i take friends shopping that are not from Bristol they are amazed by the low prices the store can offer. The low prices are particularly ...
