Advantages: great gas mileage Disadvantages: discontinued, hi-cost maintenance parts
...with, and I got a Kia Pride at next to nothing (US $100).
I figured what the heck.
The car is a four door hatchback and mine came with a 1300cc engine, no power steering, automatic and air conditioning.
Perfect for a fixer-upper quick-money-bringer.
In terms of looks, you can't do much worse (if at all). This car is square - even Scion doesn't have a car this square and boxy, and this car was probably the inspiration for Nissan's cube.
Inside, ... ...Also, this car comes from Kia and this model is no longer manufactured - whether as that style or as another car under the same name. Translation - discontinued model means no more OEM parts from Kia, which means that you would have to go looking for substitute sub-standard replacement parts. However, I must give credit to my local Kia dealer - even though they no longer supported the car, she did make it a point to help me locate substitute parts ...

...25000 miles in my wee kia and get around 45 to the gallon.
The only problem I have had with it is due to the location of the ignition coil which is prone to getting wet. I have had to clean it and squert WD40 all over it and in the end resorted to covering it with a plastic bag to keep the water from splashing up onto it.
I have been so impressed with the value for money that this car gives me I will get another when this one is 2 years old. ...

This car has got every thing that you will ever need in a small car. It is quite nippy, got a decent acceleration, enjoyable to drive. You can even get a decent MPG out of it. This is one of the cheapest cars on the market ! It even offers electric windows. This car normally costs about 3-4000 GBP and is good fun! If you just want a car for popping to and fro then this is the car for you. Mi Brother has recently bought his one and doesn't regret ...

Advantages: cheap to run, reliability Disadvantages: none
We have had our Kia pride for 3 years now. We purchased it as a used car when it was 2 years old.
In the 3 years we have had it, we have had no problems at all. We found it to be very reliable and very cheap to run. It does 44 miles to the gallon, and has never let us down, and it has enough poke to get you anywhere fast, my husband has had 90mph out of it very comfortably. It has gone through 3 mot`s with nothing wrong, and has never let us down. ... ...a big difference. Our little kia even has electric windows, how much would a little car with electric windows cost at ford? Kia definitely give you a lot more car for your money. The service from kia is second to none. My husband is disabled and as such, needs a courtesy car when ours is in for service or mot. Many dealers would charge for this, but not kia, whenever i call to book our car in the first thing they say to me is ah yes you need a courtesy ...

Advantages: Cheap to buy (cos no one wants em!!), reliable, decent engine Disadvantages: looks like a reject from 20 years ago!!
I started driving my Kia pride last year when my dad bought one for me to learn to drive in. It sounded good V reg (1999/2000), only 30,000 miles, metallic blue, electric windows for only £1300. Then i saw it! Its previous owner was a farmer who totally knackered it. Multiple scratches, rust, and muck everywhere! After 2 months of cleaning though it looked ok inside and out (even though it looks like it was around late 80s/early 90s). I thought i ... ...as there were several things wrong with it: the seat not going far enough back for my legs even though im only 5'8, constantly missing second gear, needing a new exhaust, tyres, brake pipes, brake pads, windscreen repairs all within about 3 weeks. However after much convincing that these things need replaced on every car i have had nothing else wrong with it. Even though im the only one who can actually drive my car without stalling at every junction, ...

...has one unit of 1997 Kia pride Lx sedan model available on his garage. At first i was hesitant to buy this car because i am hearing a lot of confusing things and advices from my friends but what the heck! this is the only decent car that would fit my budget that time, and so i took it. Advantages: Easy to fix, loads of space and pleasant to drive. Disadvantages: Prone to rust, needing to shop around for parts and it looks funny as a van.
I have been driving my Kia Pride since the start of the Year and I have to admit.... I Love the thing. Check out www.japarts.co.uk The link works, I'm on it now. It's a site that site that sells all Kia parts quite cheaply. If you know of someone who can fit tha parts for, this way works out quite cheap. My Pride is a fantastic piece of engineering. It must be near 15 years old and is working fantastically, Flew through the last MOT and is driving ... ...quite easy, thus the little Kia will continue to drive hopefully for many more years.
I have a slightly strange ace my sleeve too..... as My little Hatchback is in fact a Van............ So, I'm able to get out entire drum kit and Two guitars and amps and travel to gigs....... The space inside is just so vast, it really shouldn't be so..... ...

Advantages: fuel economy, comfort, looks. Disadvantages: rust, lack of power from alternator
I started off with a 1983 series III Landrover, just after I passed my driving test. But it started to break down on a weekly basis, therefore I went looking for a nice safe, cheap reliable car. So far (touch wood) I havnt had many problems, apart from the fanbelt slipping, the alternater seems a bit too small to power the car. The only thing I was a bit concerned about was the unusual amount of rust, in unusual places for a 3 yr old car. But I can ... ...mile every weekend and it hasnt let me down. Nice interior, good acceleration, but not too powerfull, econmic, and a nice looking car. Perfect for a first car, a run-around, or a small family.
UPDATE: 13/12/01
Still Hasn't let me down, Had a new clutch, Brakes, and Tyres.
I Spoke to the mechanic about the rust and he said it was a common thing in these cars. But it's only superficial and nothing to worry about. ...

I purchased a Kia Pride as my first brand new car as it was the cheapest on the market with a brand name that was tainted by a joke image, I was delighted with my purchase which went to to provide five years of trouble free motoring. Passengers never failed to be amazed at the interior room and the fact it was available new for the prices of a used fiesta or micra. The economy was excellent though relative to purchase price servicing seemed costly ...

Kia Pride Shout 1998 3 door 1324cc
I‘ve owned my Pride for over 4 years now so thought I’d update my review.
So far this car has been 100% reliable. I use it nearly every day. I replaced the original battery which lasted 9 years. The only other thing I’ve had to do is replace the rear hub/wheel bearings which started getting noisy at 30K. The bearing kits are about £15 each and can be done without a mechanics press. My local garage only charged ... ...Pride. There is KIA garage near me and there are absolutely loads of them around in my county. Despite this Haynes never produced a manual for the Pride because it was (according to them) sold in too low a number to justify the publication. I’ve bought the Haynes manual for a Mazda 323 which will cover the engine and other bits and pieces. Yes it’s a Mazda engine which means it’ll be reliable and long lasting. In fact KIA built the 121 for Mazda ...

OK so it looks a little naff and I know many who have said 'ooh I wouldn't be seen dead in that' but I love my little car. I can fill it up in Leicester for £20 then drive home to sussex (3 hours roughly, 180 miles) and only used half a tank. It is so easy to drive and I'm not just saying that cos its my car and I drive it all the time, everyone can drive my car. I bought it for £750 secondhand 2 years ago, its only got 50,000 on the clock, the majority ... ...dad doesn't remind you its due for an MOT til 6 months after its due date then that can be a bit pricey but its a goer. It can fit a whole bedroom full of clothes, mirrors, boxes, duvet etc. into every nook and cranny (believe me I've done it too many times now) and luckily my brakes are good so I've acoided any near misses. I am slighlty worried that I've got no airbag and I expect it to crumple if I had a headon collision but then what small car ...
