    Advantages Advantages Cheap, reliable, comfy

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Name, quality

I started to take driving lessons as soon as I was seventeen. Unfortunately I had a accident which prevented me from continuing, I didn't have any lessons for a few months and then when I turned eighteen I decided to book my test. I failed my test first time, simply due to nerves, I passed on my second attempt. The day I passed I was off driving, my parents gave an old wreck, a Volvo 340, older than I was. After driving this for nearly a year I decided it was time to get a new car. I got a loan for £5,000.00 from the AA and went car shopping. I wanted a car that had quite low mileage, wasn't ... more

Advantages Advantages Price won't break the bank, reliable, good looking, large hatchback, economical, quiet, its quite sporty

Disadvantages Disadvantages if you are tall there is not a lot of leg room between the rear and front seats, mine doesn't have air con

My husband and I have two Kia's, technically mine is the Kia Carens and his is the Kia Rio (well on paper anyway), but it is me that drives the Kia Rio 1.3 - mine is in metallic blue. We initially brought it as ex demo mobile when it was 5mths old with only 2000miles on the clock, me being the hard business woman (from watching all these car programmes on tv with my hubby), negotiated the price down from just over £6399, down to £5,300 and they fitted my cd player in it as well for nothing, plus taxed it for 6mths. (you can hire me out if you like, only joking) Anyway back to the car. I think ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, huge boot, low tax and insurance bracket

Disadvantages Disadvantages Basic model is low spec but you get what you pay for

I bought the most basic Kia Rio 1.3 model in February 2002. Baby number two was on the way and I couldn’t continue pushing my old car to the side of the road 2 or 3 times a week. I looked at second hand cars but felt I would rather have a new car and the relative security that brings if something goes wrong in the early stages of ownership. With a very limited budget I decided on a Kia Rio. I have to say I was somewhat swayed by the speed the heater warmed up on the test drive as it was a freezing day! In addition, the boot is enormous. I keep a tandem pushchair and a single pushchair in it ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliable, cheap to run, looks good

Disadvantages Disadvantages Back seat too slanted, boot cover

I once drove a Kia Rio as a courtesy car and really liked the car so when it came to buying a new car we decided to have a look to see if there was one out there within our price range. We found our car at a local second hand garage and paid £1400 for it on a 53 plate which I was really pleased with. The car is a 5 door hatchback with a 1.3 litre engine in metallic blue, the car is sleek to look at and although it has got some scratches which considering the age of the vehicle you would expect it has stood the test of time and is still an attractive vehicle. The car runs on unleaded fuel which ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Boot cover

Hi, I came across ownership of a Kia Rio sort of by accident. Lets explain what i mean. I suggested it to my Mum and Dad after they needed a newer car than the one they had. So they bought a Kia Rio. Sadly after 2 weeks of owning the brand new Kia, Mum passed away. Dad does not drive so didn't need the car. He tried to sell it back to Kia, who didn't want to know. One dealer even offered him £2,500 less than he had paid for it 2 weeks earlier. So that is how i came about the car!! Even though i don't tink i would have chosen it myself, I am more of a focus/astra man, i am very pleased with it ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to run, quality build, acres of room, high spec for money.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Revs lower when air con turned on

I had been looking around for a resonable sized family car between 5k and 6k. After searching for a while and being disappointed of what was on offer from other manufacturers, i stumbled across a Kia dealership. The Rio caught my eye straight away with its striking lines. Not having any knowledge of the car or badge, i went in to see the salesman hesitantly. Most of my experiences with car salesmen have not been very good i.e pushy, wont let you go till they have had a sale and a good pint of your blood. The salesman was brilliant, he didnt presurise you, gave you time on your own and a good ... more

Advantages Advantages Quite up to date, lots of technology, bags of space

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hard seats and suspension

The Kia Rio 1.3 is generally an all round good affordable family car, but as with most cars there is a few littlre floors with it. Firsty, the suspension on the car is a little too hard, whenever you drive over a speed bump or a pot hole, you absorb more of the shock than you should do, also in my opinion the suspension would be more suited to a car of a more sporty nature. The interior generally serves its purpose quite well, and on short to medium length journeys it gives you quite a comfortable ride however, the seats are a little to hard, which means that on long journeys maybe on the ... more

i have owned a rio 1.3 for over 1 year now. i have two children 6 & 3 and find packing in all there stuff quite easy, we have travelled to devon from paisley in scotland and on occassion to ireland. the car has performed admirally in every way. and the A/C a godsend at times although you do see a huge difference to your fuel consumption. around town the car is easy to manouvre and park making shopping easy. the nippy engine pulls nicely in all gears and can top 100 mph, or so i have been told. it is not a stunning car by any means, but if you are looking for reliability, practicality, and ... more

    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Cheap, lots of standard features, huge boot.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cheap to buy, therefore bad trade in

We brought the Kia after looking at various secondhand cars. As it was new we were a bit skeptical, but it was zippy, and the standard features seemed excellent. We brought the LX version as it also came with electric windows front and back. The car has not given us any problems at all in the first year of ownership. Five can sit in comfort, with their entire luggage and a baby buggy in the boot. The 1.3 engine is enough to carry all that it can accommodate as long as you are not in a huge hurry! The bonus being that the road tax is a low band. It has been as cheap to insure as a Ford Fiesta ... more

Advantages Advantages roomy boot, easy to drive , fast enough, cheap to maintain, very reliable (since I bought 2 yrs ago)

Disadvantages Disadvantages hard seats & suspension & a bit noisy at speed.

Bought mine over 2 years ago with 32k miles on clock for £2k less £400 trade-in for old banger. One of the best bargains I've ever had. I use mine for local drives (up to 30 miles) & never had a hiccup.Boot is cavernous (esp with back folded flat - can get 2 sets of golf clubs + trolleys in easily). Gets about 38 mpg which is ok for such a roomy car. It's a bit cramped in the back especially for 2 adults but ok for kids. I use it as a 2 or 3 seater and load lugger. All I've spent on it is 2 services and 2 new tyres for the front. If you're looking for a cheap reliable car, get one! ... more
