Advantages: Simple to use. Great pictures Disadvantages: Heavy battery use
Because I own the Kodak DC240 this review has to be about that model but it is identical to the DC280 except for one feature. The DC280 has an ISO setting to enable the user to take pictures in relatively dark places without using flash whereas the DC240 does not. Being automatic cameras it is the shutter speed that varies depending on the light conditions of the subject to maintain the correct exposure. However at slower speeds any slight camera ... ...for both models.
The Kodak DC240/DC280 is a 1.3 megapixel camera that does away with the need for film and developing but it has a need for a computer to download the pictures onto. The camera comes complete with a 4MB memory card and all leads necessary to hook it up to a computer via the USB or serial port. A CD with software to enable the computer and camera to "talk" to each other is supplied as well as a CD on which is Adobe Photoshop v3, both ...

Advantages: Ease of use. Quality of pictures Disadvantages: Battery drain
I got a Kodak 240 for Christmas 1999. I have used it extensivly and found the camera to be quite exiting really.
There is a LCD display on the back where you can change the options for taking pictures. Your main changes will be for the resolution.
I brought a 8MB and 10MB cards for the camera to store the pictures. The main reason I brought two of this size was for holidays abroad where I would get no chance of downloading them, and then using ... ...memory space back again.
The camera comes with rechargable batteries, and a charger which you will need. I found that when uploading the pictures to a computer (cables all supplied, and software) the batteries drain fast. Kodak do a mains adapter but this costs £59.99, very expensive. ...

Advantages: easy to use Disadvantages: photo quality
I first bought the kodak DC240 Zoom digital camera. I thought I needed digital due to the amount of "on site" photographs I was taking.
The idea of taking photos and then simply "printing" them off of my computer seemed very appealing, especially that it meant that I could now have them straightaway on the same day and without even having to visit the local shop and return in an hours time. Excellent I thought.
Allthough I am not totally depressed ... ...as the standard of phots AFTER they have been printed, after all, this is what you will be looking to buy the camera for.
Also shop around as the kodak camera I bought cost me £249.00 in comet whereas in another well known shop the same camera costs £325.00. ...

Review of KODAK DC240 Digital Camera
Advantages: No messy cables if using PCMCIA Disadvantages: Eats batteries like they all do - buy rechargable ones
Totally mobile camera that allows you to show slideshows IMMEDIATELY on a laptop. The PCMCIA slot in my laptop allows the picture card from the camera to be plugged straight into the laptop and be treated as another drive - but it's not slow like a floppy disk cos it's a CARD so you get instant access to the pictures.
So there's no messing about with installing software, no leads to forget, no transfer time between the camera and a PC and if you ... ...and then you can simply save them to a floppy disk for them and you're away.
The camera has all the usual features such as an LCD screen to preview the pictures and a menu system for searching through them to delete the ones that you're not happy with. Also, all the zoom facilities, automatic flash and macro photography capabilities.
Never has using a digital camera been so simple! ...

Review of KODAK DC240 Digital Camera
Advantages: Picture Quality; Ease Of Use; Price Disadvantages: Limited Resolution (compared to newer cameras); Quite Bulky
...my final choice was the Kodak DC240 or the Fuji FinePix 1400.
I chose the Kodak partly on price, because there was little else to differentiate them, but also on the medium used: the Fuji SmartMedia looked a bit flimsy to me, whereas the Kodak CompactFlash looked a lot sturdier.
The Kodak DC240 is extremely easy to use, with enough options to keep the gadget person happy, but not too many to be confusing.
The picture quality is excellent, and ... ...digital zoom should give you plenty of scope.
Another factor that assisted my decision was the USB connection for uploading photographs, and the fact that it is TWAIN-compatible, which means that you can upload photographs straight into your image editing software (Paint Shop Pro 5 in my case).
At 1.3 million pixels, it's not the highest resolution camera on the market, but, for the price, it's enough for me!
However, you should bear in mind that ...

Review of KODAK DC240 Digital Camera
Advantages: Simple to use good value no films Disadvantages: Expensive! Photos take ages to download
...The camera comes comeplete with Kodak picture easy software that is easy to install and allows you to download the images and is very easy and good to use. It gives you the option of creating many albums with special thumbnails so you know which photo is which.
The editing features is very basic as they only allow you to crop the image or change the brightness of the image. If you want to do anything else you need to use an image editing package ... ...the battries need re-charging. However Kodak give you re-chargable battries included with the price and a charger. (they even provide a set of normal battries so you can get started quickly)
The photographes also take ages to save and delete when using the software although they can be deleted in seconds by deleting them from the camera.
However in conclusion I think that i have no regrets about buying this camera and would never go back to using ...

Advantages: User friendly Disadvantages: Wide angle not wide enougth
...I decided to buy the Kodak DC240 and was pleased with it right from the start. It is one of the most user friendly cameras on the market and takes very good pictures. I seldom set mine higher than the lowest quality setting and am always pleased with the results. I only find two problems with it namely 1) Your nose brushes on the view screen when you take a picture and tends to smear it up and 2) the wide angle is in my opinion not quite wide enougth. ...

Advantages: ease of use and good entry model, which will be cheaper than when I first bought one Disadvantages: advanced technology and fragile piece of equipment, but the=is can be over come with an extended warranty. 1.3 megapixels is really the lower end for digital cameras these days
When I bought the Kodak 240, it came with a 8Mb Flashcard the number of photos you will be able to get on the Flashcard will depend on the resolution that you use for taking pictures.
Good entry camera at 1.3megapixel with 2 optical zooms and 3 digital zooms. Very easy to use and setup and gives good quality results and produces a 5x7 picture.

Advantages: Easy To Use Disadvantages: LCD Adjustment Too Easy
I have owned my digital camera now for about nine months. I have found that the DC240 is extremely easy to use, a lot easier than most SLR cameras I have owned. It realy is a point and click camera and I have been more than pleased with the reults. My young son has used it to good effect on his trips out, he is only 12 years old so it must be fairly starightforward.
The picture quality has always been good. I am no expert when it comes to photography ... ...It has taken a few knocks along the way and seems to be no worse off for the experience. I have had to think hard to say something negative about the camera, but if I must then it would be that the LCD screen adjustment wheel is too easy to knock out. The first time it happened I thought the camera had broken. Maybe that is just me being stupid.
Overall I am more than satisfied with this camera and would recommend it as a buy for anyone. ...

Advantages: Technical knowledge unnecessary to get decent images Disadvantages: Those batteries and the supplied flash card
Fairly basic model. Comes with fairly useful set of software but the Compact Flash card supplied is not very large - this can be a problem if shooting away from access to a p.c. or notebook where one can download images for subsequent manipulation and production.
Limited choice of facilities but the beauty is that the camera functions very well with the settings straight out of the box. It might be considered the digital version of an Instamatic. ...

Advantages: No waiting to see results - those you don't like you delete. Disadvantages: Only an 8mb card comes as standard - not enough to last your holidays.
I have been using my camera for just a month now and am smitten! Up until now I have been the traditional 35mm freak, but now I have put aside the Pentax, mothballed the Minolta and zapped the Zenit! I have gone digital!
The 240i has a high resolution of 1.3 million pixels and a choice of settings that will enable me to take photographs suitable for use on the web, up to producing an 8 X 10 print - plus options to take pictures in black and white ... ...Then there is the 3 X optical zoom, the 2 X digital zoom and the ability to focus as close as 0.25m.
Supplied complete with 8 X AA rechargeable batteries and the charger, and a soft case the only slight niggle is the size of the CompactFlash card - 8Mb. However a quick visit to the digitalfirst.co.uk site soon found a 32Mb card at an acceptable price.
I must admit the camera came free - I won it in a radio phone-in competition. Best prize ever! ...
