karndean, the alternative laminate flooring

Advantagesdurable, practical and versatile

Disadvantagesquite expensive

"...can be very noisy whereas Karndean is quiet underfoot and with a 1year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier in the house this is a great advantage. It is low maintenance, as opposed to natural flooring products this will not need sanding or repairing. All the ranges within this brand have differing features, attributes and durability but all are suitable for any rooms within the home. Karndean is supplied in either planks or tiles in various sizes ..." Read review

Karendean Flooring - Expensive Alternative

AdvantagesGreat real wood look, hard-wearing, level

DisadvantagesExpensive, specialised fitting

"Karndean flooring is a vinyl flooring which makes a quality alternative to the laminate flooring and real wood flooring more commonly found. Once laid the flooring shares the aesthetically pleasing look of a real wooden floor but has the more hard wearing advantage of a good laminate floor. For this reason the product has widespread commercial use and can be seen in shopping centres, etc. where it needs to withstand extreme levels of use. Karndean ..." Read review

Karndean...suitable for Domestic Use?? Not if you own a hoover!!!

AdvantagesNone I can think of

DisadvantagesNot fit for purpose, scratches easily, misleading advertising

"We purchase Karndean for our hallway, kitchen and dining room. We paid £2500. It was sold to us as 'a hard wearing good quality floor, suitable for domestic use and even used commercially'. The retailer advised us that Karndean would be suitable for our home. He came out to measure, came to fit and left us with a 'care kit'. VERY quickly (within a week or two) the scratches started to appear. They are long and VERY unsightly. We have a lot of natural ..." Read review

Dissappointed with product and after sales.

AdvantagesIt is better than the concrete underneath,

DisadvantagesScratches too easily so looks cheap. Poor after sales.

"...been very dissapointed with the Karndean wood effect we have had laid, We first looked at Amtico but found a design we prefered with Karndean and had it laid, In less than a month with pracitical little use as this is a chillout/ entertainment room used rarely, guests are to remove shoes in the house too, we noticed lots of scratch marks some very noticeable, we got this as we thought it would be hard wearing and glad the one we wanted for the same ..." Dont believe the hype!

AdvantagesNone

DisadvantagesCompletely impractical!

"...the salesman talked me into Karndean because is was supposedly the same quality but less expensive. I was sold the Picasso range which was supposed to be of a high quality Commercial standard. This however, is where the problem begins. This product has no resemblance to a commercial grade product, whatsoever. It marks, scratches, scuffs and is the most delicate flooring I have ever seen. Despite contacting the shop and Karndean directly, the only ..." Read review

Karndean is Expensive, I've Found an Alternative Half the Price

Advantagesvinyl tiles are a good type of flooring option

DisadvantagesKarndean is a RIP OFF search for lesser priced alternatives

"...is to inform you about Karndean flooring...and how you can get the look and quality of Karndean but pay over 60% less. In brief the following statement summaries my review: Karndean (Brand Name) = Luxury Vinyl Tile Flooring its like: Kellogs = Brand of Cereal TIP: Go to Google or Yahoo and search for the term "luxury vinyl tiles" or just "vinyl tiles" and find a supplier who sells this type of flooring. As Karndean is a brand name for vinyl ..." Read review

Da vinci range

AdvantagesNone

DisadvantagesScratches, becomes dull and gets huge gaps

"We ordered the karndean da vinci flooring and what a RUBBISH product. After paying £2800, The installer came to fit, after the day was done, we had "gorgeous" floors. After a few days the gaps started to show on all the boards. We ordered the most expensive of the product range available so expected it to be the best, this is almost £1000 more expensive than wood. The gaps have gotten worse than ever and we have 2 - 3 mm gaps almost on every board ..." Read review

Don't unless you have no windows in your room

AdvantagesTough and scratch resistant.

DisadvantagesFading is dramatic and makes it very poor value for money

"Karndean floors are just not suited to be anywhere near natural light. Don't even think about putting it in a conservatory. My sister has had hers replaced three times by the flooring company because not only did it fade dramtically, it then developed a green hue. The fade happens pretty quickly too. You are likely to notice a big difference in colour within a couple of years next to a glass door or in a particularly sunny area of your room. My own ..." Read review

Karndean - Internet or local shop

AdvantagesScratch proof beautiful durable waterproof

Disadvantagesexpensive

"... A friend of mine recommended karndean as an alternative as it doens't scrath and looks very realistic. I then went top me local retailer and was impressed by the look and feel but not the price i couldn't believe how much they wanted to charge me for such a small room!!! I sourced the products online and arranged the fitting with a local trader who did a fantastic job saving myself over £300 pound. Its been down for 6 months now and still looks brand ..." Read review

My new karndean floor

Advantageswarm, durable, practical

Disadvantagesexpensive

"...20sqm of Island Limestone Alderney Karndean flooring from DirectFlooring2U, had great service and the flooring is great. I've had laminate in my kitchen before but I couldn't mop it!!!!! It drove me mad. So i went to my local retailer who showed me this stuff. Quick review of Karndean Flooring

"Ive used the Eletile EleEase system in my hall and with the handy tips from the flooring shop I brought it from it went down a dream! So easy to clean. The trick is to make sure the sticky strips dont get contaminated by dust, etc. They stick really well. Im doing the kitchen next!

My Karndean Flooring

Advantages Looks fantastic, quiet and warm underfoot, affordable

Disadvantageserm...too much CHOICE!! if thats a disadvantage

"I recently bought karndean for my lounge, bathroom and hallway, it looks great. i went for the knight tile range for all of it. for the hallway and lounge i went for KP67 Aran oak and for the bathroom i went for T88 Onyx slate with a silver strip in between each tile. After visiting my local retailer i made my choice from the samples, however it was too expensive... £25 m2 they said it would be, excluding adhesive and fitting etc. so i decided to ..." Read review

Quick review of Karndean Flooring

"I also had a similar problem. Ordered Karndean underlay but got Jumpax. However Karndean confirmed that it is all the same stuff as Jumpax manufacture the product for Karndean. Flooring suppliers told me they can only offer the reduced priced if they are buying it in bulk direct from the manufacture. Would have settled for that but pushed for some discount and got a free Karndean maintenace kit out of them!

Eletile

AdvantagesLooks good...for a while

DisadvantagesMany

"Needed to replace laminate flooring in my hallway so out I went an found some self adhesive tiles called Eletile. Thought they sounded nice and easy, but then when I'd pulled up the old floor I realised they were much more susceptible to uneven subfloors and I had to go out and get something to skim the floor to level. They were easy enough to cut and lay and when finished looked quite good. A few days on however, some of the tiles started lifting ..." Read review

Karndean

AdvantagesEasy to install on Karndean subfloor

DisadvantagesSubfloor cost more than the floor itself

"...had to buy the correct Karndean subfloor from local plumbing centre, but directflooring2u.co.uk does not seem to be interested to give me refund. They did send a courier to collect the wrong jumpax floor. They are also quite rude on the phone. Will never use this company again, they are many other places that give better service. ..."
