Advantages: Everything you'd want in a sportsbike, Practical Disadvantages: No good for touring, Not as headturning as others
...do with it that counts! Kawasaki have made a corker of an engine here.
Less the 2000 revs it's nothing (idle should be 1700 says the manual - there is a twiddly bit on the end of a wire on the right hand side to adjust the tickover dead easy), and will be lumpy upto 4000 rpm. From 4000 to 7000 is where you want to be as the balance between power and economy. There's a nice power band just after 7000 rpm which will whisk you upto 10,000 rpm in the ... ...obligatory (and most common) Green/White/Blue Kawasaki colours and "Kawasaki Green" colour bikes, you can get red ones, black ones, blue ones, and like mine - purple!
The ZXR400 is fully faired in its aerodynamic clothes. The fairing comes off easily enough for maintainence and oil changes.
Mirrors

Many sportsbikes have mirrors more for looks than practicality (think Italian bikes) and although this maybe true for the ZXR they definitly ...

Advantages: very light and nimble Disadvantages: needs to be pushed hard to get high speeds
I have owned the zxr400l for quite some time now and i belive it to be one of the best 400s around. It has great handling and is very low so it is good for the smaller of people it does lack power though but is what you would expect from a little 400.
Even though it doent have loads of power it can still reach high speeds. It has a limiter which i seem to remember reading somewhere that it restricts it to 135mph. I bought mine second hand and it ... ...even faster. I still think it is one of the fastest 400s but the fzr400 seems a more powerfull bike.
For looks i would say it is nice looking it has nice curves and you've got to love the kawazaki green. My bike is fully green with a few white stickers which are not as standard but do just give it the edge.
I like the bike mainly for the riding position it feels like a race bike should it can be thrown in to corners very fast and takes them with ...

Advantages: SPEED Disadvantages: Motorways as is not the most comfortable bike in the world!
As a girlie who making her first foray into the sportsbike arena, I was very disappointed to find that I was a bit small for the Ninja 600 (or it was too big for me!) So I decided on the ZXR as it was small and easy to manage, I did have concerns about speed, well that as it was a 400 that it would not be fast enough for me (I have been told size is everything), but one year on and I absolutely adore it still.(I had never kept a bike for more than ... ...need, as an about town racer, the GTi boys don’t stand a chance at the traffic lights, and it is light and easy to flick impressively round corners, also as I am quite light I don’t have that much difficulty keeping up with the boys on the 600s (as most of them ride like wusses anyway). Its light weight means I never worry that I’m going to drop it when I push it out of the garage and it has excellent styling - although the most important point remains ...

Advantages: Corners like a dream Disadvantages: Very 'peaky'
I have always owned a two stroke and had started to feel that it was time to move onto something faster. I soon discovered that at 5'3" I was struggling to touch the floor on any of the 600's. I was told by numerous people that I'd be better of with a ZXR400, small, fast and very quick steering - plus all the benifits of 4 stroke and I do love the styling.
I bought a 1991 L1 model and I have to say that it is a fantastic handling bike, it can be ... ...touch the floor. But, with regards to the power I am still up and down the gears as I was with the 2 stroke and apart from the extra mph at the top end - I am not feeling that there is a massive difference between the 250cc and the extra 150cc I have with the ZXR. I'd advise that you go for a really good test ride before you decide on the bike. On saying all this I have no intention of selling the bike on, it is a fun bike to ride - I am going to ...

...but made do with a Kawasaki KR1-s250.. a physically smaller, lighter bike without the status of the ZXR. When I finally got my test pilot on the ZedExR, Yes it flicked through bends, Yes it felt like a big bike, Yes it made the right noise, but No - there was no noticeable performance increase over the KR1. To get the max out of the ZXR, it needs to be pushed, the needle lives in the red, and Yes; you can have so much fun on it,- if you enjoy knowing ...

Advantages: Corners so goood, insurance so cheap Disadvantages: apparently uncomfortable. But not for short people.
I got my ZXR (1992 L1 model) on a whim. I passed my direct access and was after a CBR400RR, but as soon as I saw my ZXR, with upside-down forks, black frame and the coolest styling, I had to have it. I have short legs, and I find the ZXR very comfortable in respect of the reach required to ride. I admit that the first 3 weeks of owning my ZXR was a nightmare. Everything went wrong, battery, punctures, indicators playing up, etc. It was insanely uncomfortable ... ...scared the hell out of me when i revved it near to 10,000rpm.
But after a few months, I got used to the tough suspension, I revved it to it's 13,500 red line, and i put some recommended size tyres on it, and it's a dream bike to me. It takes on anything at a roundabout, embarasses bigger sports bikes on country roads and if you tuck behind the screen it does keep up with 600s on the motorway. I've had it for over 2 years now, and I will never sell ...

hi there i have owned my zxr 4 about 7 months now and love it so far. i am always asked what its like on long rides, im 29 and 6 foot 3", and ride 70 miles a day to work and back! yes it hurts for a few weeks on the wrists and then you get used to it. ive only been riding a few years well 2. so far ive owned a cbr nc23, cbr nc29, vfr nc 30, and a rvf nc 35 in my opinion there all very much the same the zxr i love and its a tiny bit bigger but i doubt ... ...for good for 400`s but wouldnt go for the nc23 cbr had lots of problems inclueding brake disc brake and look the front wheel at 60 on a round a bout (but is was a crap not looked after bike) so im not saying its a problem with that model. after riding the cbr`s for a while nc 23 and nc29 then moving to the zxr i found the zxr much more forgiving for a new rider you can lean over more without even thinking about it plus its light(dont drop it its ...

I felt like my butt was gonna drop off!
I've been pillion on numerous different bikes, but...please- even going short distances - OUCH!!
The bike makes good speed and sounds nice (I'm a woman - whaddayou expect?) BUT - the brakes rust over after a couple of days, the pillion seat still doesn't get any more comfortable(have I mentioned that already?)

Advantages: good looks and performance/cornering on twisty roads. Disadvantages: battery/starting probs and not the best for motorway work.
i'd gone back to biking 3 years ago after a 10 year absence, what bike to get i wondered nothing to big,a 1989 zxr400h caught my eye in the MCN.
after a hour drive to look at it ,a quick ride and i was hooked, money was exchanged and i road it back home,a chicken in the saddle of a bike that could handle corners with ease, accelerate to upset many a new car driver,an old G reg leaving me behind! they must think to themselves.
3 years on and no real ... ...for half an hour, stop for a stretch of the legs(being 6ft 2 doesn't help)and the thing doesn't want to start, impossible to bump start!
anyway the zxr400 is a fantastic bike and seems to be looked down on from other larger bike owners, why i don't know its still a proper bike, with big bike looks and near the same performance without the big bike insurance etc. ...
