Advantages Advantages Everything you'd want in a sportsbike, Practical

Disadvantages Disadvantages No good for touring, Not as headturning as others

Introduction ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I bought my ZXR400 second hand in July 2003 for £2000. I rode my 8000th mile on it yesterday. It ferrys me the 11 miles back and forth to university most days, as well as longer 200 miles journeys to relatives across the country. I have been to France on it once, covering 700 miles in 5 days. I ride mostly solo but I have taken a pillion on both long and short trips. So be assured my opinion is well formed and not read out of magazine or "what I think". ZXR400's are japanese imports, so have their clocks in kilometres. The headlamps have to be altered so they dip to the ... more

Advantages Advantages very light and nimble

Disadvantages Disadvantages needs to be pushed hard to get high speeds

I have owned the zxr400l for quite some time now and i belive it to be one of the best 400s around. It has great handling and is very low so it is good for the smaller of people it does lack power though but is what you would expect from a little 400. Even though it doent have loads of power it can still reach high speeds. It has a limiter which i seem to remember reading somewhere that it restricts it to 135mph. I bought mine second hand and it is not standard so it can reach over 140mph maybe even faster. I still think it is one of the fastest 400s but the fzr400 seems a more powerfull bike ... more

    Advantages Advantages SPEED

Disadvantages Disadvantages Motorways as is not the most comfortable bike in the world!

As a girlie who making her first foray into the sportsbike arena, I was very disappointed to find that I was a bit small for the Ninja 600 (or it was too big for me!) So I decided on the ZXR as it was small and easy to manage, I did have concerns about speed, well that as it was a 400 that it would not be fast enough for me (I have been told size is everything), but one year on and I absolutely adore it still.(I had never kept a bike for more than a year before) it has as much speed as I need, as an about town racer, the GTi boys don’t stand a chance at the traffic lights, and it is light and ... more

Advantages Advantages Corners like a dream

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very 'peaky'

I have always owned a two stroke and had started to feel that it was time to move onto something faster. I soon discovered that at 5'3" I was struggling to touch the floor on any of the 600's. I was told by numerous people that I'd be better of with a ZXR400, small, fast and very quick steering - plus all the benifits of 4 stroke and I do love the styling. I bought a 1991 L1 model and I have to say that it is a fantastic handling bike, it can be flicked into any corner no problem and yes I can touch the floor. But, with regards to the power I am still up and down the gears as I was with the 2 ... more

    Advantages Advantages big on style

Disadvantages Disadvantages struggles to break the sound barrier

A Real bike, 400 cc's, 4 Cylinders, but nearly 180 kg's and only 60 bhp; makes the ZXR a little less of a vicious tiger that you might have expected. I always wanted one from the day I turned 17, but made do with a Kawasaki KR1-s250.. a physically smaller, lighter bike without the status of the ZXR. When I finally got my test pilot on the ZedExR, Yes it flicked through bends, Yes it felt like a big bike, Yes it made the right noise, but No - there was no noticeable performance increase over the KR1. To get the max out of the ZXR, it needs to be pushed, the needle lives in the red, and Yes; you ... more

Advantages Advantages Corners so goood, insurance so cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages apparently uncomfortable. But not for short people.

I got my ZXR (1992 L1 model) on a whim. I passed my direct access and was after a CBR400RR, but as soon as I saw my ZXR, with upside-down forks, black frame and the coolest styling, I had to have it. I have short legs, and I find the ZXR very comfortable in respect of the reach required to ride. I admit that the first 3 weeks of owning my ZXR was a nightmare. Everything went wrong, battery, punctures, indicators playing up, etc. It was insanely uncomfortable to ride as the suspension was so hard, and it scared the hell out of me when i revved it near to 10,000rpm. But after a few months, I got ... more

hi there i have owned my zxr 4 about 7 months now and love it so far. i am always asked what its like on long rides, im 29 and 6 foot 3", and ride 70 miles a day to work and back! yes it hurts for a few weeks on the wrists and then you get used to it. ive only been riding a few years well 2. so far ive owned a cbr nc23, cbr nc29, vfr nc 30, and a rvf nc 35 in my opinion there all very much the same the zxr i love and its a tiny bit bigger but i doubt it would make a difference as for performance all are for good for 400`s but wouldnt go for the nc23 cbr had lots of problems inclueding brake ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast, Light, Cheapish, Cracking looking bike, and most your riding a kawasaki in Team Green!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Wrists and backside hurt after long journeys.

Where do i start? What a FANTASTIC bike! I've had my ZXR 400 L3 for around about a year now, and it has been one of the most exhilarating rides I've had. The handling on these lightweight sports bikes is mind blowing, it just begs for you to twist the throttle more when your in the bends. The acceleration will keep up with some other 600's! However the top end is the same. These are high revving bikes and you need to keep the revs high to have the fun. And for all you wheelie maniacs (including me) this bike is easy to wheelie! The comfort is ok, I rode from Oxford to Essex on mine and when i ... more

    Advantages Advantages fast

    Disadvantages Disadvantages ouch!

The bike likes to go fast, the rider likes to go fast - please spare a though for the pillion....... I felt like my butt was gonna drop off! I've been pillion on numerous different bikes, but...please- even going short distances - OUCH!! The bike makes good speed and sounds nice (I'm a woman - whaddayou expect?) BUT - the brakes rust over after a couple of days, the pillion seat still doesn't get any more comfortable(have I mentioned that already?) It makes good miles though & the resale value is excellent, probably the best buy for someone who takes a pillion less regularly. ... more
