Advantages: Probably the nicest place to stay on campus Disadvantages: It's a tad expensive!
...I applied to go to Kent University it was at the last minute (about 2 weeks before my results!) and so did not get to apply for accommodation in the normal way. I was assigned my accommodation by the University and was given the option to live in Tyler Court or to find my own place to stay!
So I decided to take up my place in Tyler Court Block C, which is (if I do say so myself) probably the best place to live on campus. APPLYING
From what I have ... ...for accommodation you either fill in a form which they send you in the post (I'd recommend doing this ASAP especially if you hope to get in here!) or you can fill in an on-line application form which will be detailed in the letter accompanying your postal application. All the details of the rooms and rates can be found at www.kent.ac.uk in the hospitality section. There are pictures of most of the typical rooms and buildings on the website and a ...

...a result I phoned South Kent College and explained the situation. They sent out an application form and invited my husband for an interview. He started college the following monday! The only good thing about the college is the nursery that is on campus. I have a two year old son and he loves it there. They are very organised and brilliant with the children. They are helpful when you have any problems and extremely understanding with financial issues. ...

Advantages: Nice and quiet place for study, spacious campus with lots of facilities including a large library in the centre of campus Disadvantages: Far from other cities and towns which could be annoying for those who enjoy going as nightlife in canterbury is not that great!
I have just graduated from an Economics degree at the university and have ordered my robes and photographs for the graduation ceremony due to take place in the well known canterbury cathedral in July. Definately I would say that the past three years of university has been the best time of my life so far...and what a special place to have to celebrate the end of my uni life and have my graduation ceremony take place at the canterbury cathedral. It ... ...family and also a day to celebrate the end of our degrees with my friends and other students in my course. Although I can see myself visiting the town and the university again in the future, I will definately miss being a student there.
Eventhough this university wasnt my first choice, I think that I was lucky to have chosen this university through clearing because of the friends Ive made and the experience Ive gained from studying there. At the ...

Advantages: Verdict: Good studying environment and excellent computer facilities Disadvantages: high school fees
I've studied at University of Kent for a year in 1998.
Strong points:
(1) Serene university enviroment with campus on a hill-ducklings could be seen wondering around and chasing one another on campus during spring time
(2) Good computer facilities with most computers being Pentium configuration
(3) A wide variety of computer books in the library
(4) Good nightlife - student union film card costs £10 for a year which entitles you to watch movies ... ...sat evenings
- disco on campus
(5) Adsa transport to and fro campus during school term, great for examination periods when time is scarce.
(6) Very near to Dover port, great breakaway to France and Belgium.
Weak points:
(1) High school fees for overseas students abt £9000 per year (same for all UK uni.)
(2) As campus situated on a hill, be warned if you go on foot to town centre, you have to climb up the hill with your shopping back to campus

Kent offers you several choices of accomodation: halls, self-catering, and rented houses in town.
My advice to freshers is - go for halls in your first year then, if you can get in, self-catering in your last.
The self-catering parts are spread into several houses - Brotherwood Close, etc and then a whole village called Parkwood. If you go into these in your first year and you don't get on with your housemates etc you've got to try and make friends ... ...are in a house full of foreign students, nice for a year but when you're looking for housemates for your second year not so good as they are guaranteed a place in Parkwood and you aren't.
Also, in halls you can at least know that you've got one meal guaranteed so if you do run out of cash at the end of term you can still get a cooked breakfast (that's if you get up in time). You will be on central campus so not far to walk to lectures and the library ...

Advantages: Friendly, great social, Disadvantages: Expensive to live in town
Having been to UKC for three years, I can look back and safely say that I have had a fantastic university career. Friendly from the start, UKC opens it's arms to new students unlike some other universities around the country. There's a huge variety of clubs and societies and with the halls being self contained, you really get socially involved and the university becomes your life. As well as the fun fun fun side of things, UKC also has an exemplary ... ...government league tables (biology and psychology getting 24 out of 24 each), there are worse places to study. Being so close to the continent has it advantages, attracting a huge number of students from across Europe. There is a truly multicultural feel to the place, with Europeans, Asians, Africans and Americans all living and sharing the amazinglly picturesque site
Set deep in the heart of Kent, Canterbury resonates 'holiday', with hundreds of ...

I ahve to say that the rent is very reasonable for what you get, aronud 55-60 pounds a week (electricity and gas bills included in the rent). You have all the amenities around you, plus ALL your friends. With car parks dotted around campus! Yes this university LETS STUDENTS BRING THEIR CARS ALONG! Advantages: Friendly atmosphere Disadvantages: Exams in a row - a possibility!
...me about the university of Kent was how friendly everyone was. Leaving everything you know and moving to a uni campus may not seem like the most easy thing to do but afer the first week I had already established friendships which lasted throughout the first and second years and hopefully for many more to come. The advantages of this uni are a) it is easy to get to Europe b) there are therefore many Europeans at the uni which makes life more exciting ... ...takes you to the historical city of Canterbury. There are few disadvantages to Kent uni however exam rules have changed forcing some students to have to take exams in a row which was previously unacceptable, though there is a campaign to change this. This has caused tension within the uni. ...

Advantages: Situation, Size of Campus Disadvantages: Exam timetables
After just completing my final chemistry exams this week, I have just discovered that the University will be closing its doors to Chemistry students in 3 years time. What can I say!? I'm shocked that after being there for three years that they will be closing the department.
Yes I understand their will be only 13 Graduates this year from the chemistry department, where in Biology there is 100's of graduates.
Money wise it probably is the best thing ... ...university, I wonder where all that money has gone? Surely it hasnt gone to other departments as I slightly suspect. The department itself is well run, the majority of lecturers are helpful and well educated and the atmosphere was nice. The downside is that spending three years studying Pharmaceutical Chemistry is that I have decided that perhaps I need a break from chemistry as I no longer enjoy the subject as a whole.
I was more shocked when I ...

The village that Kent University is based in has 365 pubs, that’s one for everyday of the year and ample opportunity to find the local that suits you! Kent at Canterbury has a serene campus not exactly alive with colours but reflective of that Englishmans stiff upper lip image of rolling green fields. Halls has more than enough accommodation to house you Fresher’s out there. The buildings are generally quite well maintained, but the rooms are a bit ... ...and doesn’t drink, very hard! Kent has a very strong student body who will stand up for your student rights and a community spirit that is unrivalled. Being a campus based university you make a lot of friends, I think as strong as your family ties. The Uni may not be ranked too high in the league tables, but it’s not too low either, the facilities are good and the computing suites excellent. The lecturers and aux. Staff are also brilliant and it ...

Advantages: Nice place Disadvantages: Quite windy at times
I currently go to Kent Uni (okay, not currently seing how its the holidays, but you get what I mean) and I am enjoying the experience much more than I thought I would.
As somewhat people-phobic (yeah I know I should know the word but it's late, so sue me), I was really happy to discover how small Canterbury actually is.
It must qualify as one of the smallest cities in Britain, and because of this a lot of it's natural and medieval beauty is still ...

Advantages: Nice place Disadvantages: Not much nightlife.
I graduated from Kent a couple of years ago and did a bit of postgrad work and found it to be a really excellent university to be at. It is not far from London - hence almost deserted halls at the weekends and the new Students Union building is really excellent.
It is a great place to exploring the great outdoors and Canterbury is full of history and interesting places to go. It is a lovely walk down the hill into town and you can explore the birthplace ... ...for meeting people. You will inevitably become good mates with somebody down your corridor. Don't worry if you're a fresher - most of your corridor probably are too! People are really friendly.

Advantages: All faculties spread on one campus. Disadvantages: Poor Accomodation, not many activities
...applied to The University of Kent during clearing and had no idea as to how it was. When I arrived here I almost cried, as I entered my room in Darwin College, one of the halls of residence, it was as though I had stepped into a hospital room. The orientation program was very bad, one had to go around to find mates, unlike others places there were no activities where one could get to know people. The positive thing here is that the campus is centralised, ... ...all over the town. The negatives' list is never ending to me- there is 1 kitchen per 88 students in my halls, not many activities, located far from the town centre and there is not much happening down-town either. I personally recommend this university to studious people who want work hard all day and get a distinction, as one who is studious enjoys nothing but studying. This Uni. would also suit religious devotees as they get free entry to Canterbury ...

Advantages: Easy access to France and the Continent Disadvantages: Depressing concrete buildings
Kent as a university lacks the personality that many other universities have developed. Its attempt at a colligate system really does not match that of places such as Oxford or Cambridge
and its 60's architecture gives it an overall depressing environment.
Many of the courses at Kent are highly recomended, however though
Canterbury is very quaint, you will need your own transport, and be wary of the cults and religous groups the town and university ...
