Advantages: Takes effort away from cooking, Saves time Disadvantages: Takes up a lot of room
When I moved to Rugby, I had two hand blenders. A Tesco value one which I bought at university and one my brother unwittingly "donated" to me. Both bit the dust within a month of moving. So, for my birthday, my mum bought me the FP698. We spent a good half an hour looking through the attachments and working out what everything did, but the most important trial was yet to come.
The reason that I was so desperate for a food processor is because I ... ...killed the hand blenders, so I needed something robust. Eleven months later, it's still going strong and apart from a slight motor oil smell that wafted around when I first used it, I have not had one single problem with it, and I use it for everything!!! In the main bowl it will happily chop raw veg, and is brilliant for making cheesy breadcrumb toppings as you can use the grater attachments to grate the cheese and then the main blades to mix the ...

Advantages: Powerful, good design, good recipe book Disadvantages: Storage
...my friends, I decided that Kenwood would be a good choice. Then I had to choose to model. I looked online for some advice and the one that I liked, said: get the most powerful you can afford; check that knife blades are as low in the bowl as possible. I looked around and really liked the FP698. And what can I say - since I got it I am really happy about it. It has a good range of attachments - the main processing bowl, which is really good capacity, ... ...portions, liquidiser, citrus juicer, centrifugal juicer (so you can have fruit and veg juice as well, not just citruses), and even a mill. My partner loves coffee and it was fantastic to prepare fresh coffee. The mill did excellent job!!! It includes three disks: chipping, thin shredder/slicer and thick shredder/slicer. It is enough in general, but I bought an additional disks for grating parmesan cheese and potatoes. The disks come in a good storage ...

Advantages: Compact, attractive, lots of attachments, storage, Disadvantages: bowl and lid look flimsy, need lots of storage room for accessories
...a replacement for my last Kenwood that expired after over 25 years of use.
The motor is housed beneath the bowl and this makes it very compact, and I am keeping it out on the worktop, the previous model was a big cream ugly thing with a bowl on the side of the motor unit and a removable plate to place the liquidizer and mill on.
This model takes all attachments on the base.
I wanted a model that had the spice mill, as the previous model had one, ... ...the same attachment. The FP698 despite it's smaller size came with even more attachments than before so I still need the same storage for them if not more than before. It comes with a stylish caddy for the slicing and grating disks that looks good next to it, could do with storage for the other things!
The disks are cleverly double sided so you need only three to carry out all the slicing, juilienneing, and grating you want.
At first I noticed ...

Advantages: The small bowl is really useful and works well Disadvantages: The juicer is not very efficient
This is carefully designed and so easy to set up and use. The instructions aren't very detailed though so some of it is a little trial-and-error. Cleaning is fairly easy, although the grinder section is a little difficult to empty out fully. The small bowl is really useful and produces just as goos results as the big bowl (baby food etc is brill). Unfortunately you have to fit the little bowl inside the big one so you can't have both "in use" at ... ...with sticky hands due to the strange shape of the controller, but the pulse switch is effective.
Not sure what the blade storage gadet is about though - rather gimiky but I guess it stops you cutting your fingers while the parts are in the draw (but it does take up a lot of space.) The only really dissapointing feature is the juicer - it is hard to get it balanced properly and the pulp has to be emptied too often to make it quick to use. (I'd buy ...
