Advantages: Ease of use, reliability Disadvantages: Bulky, a bit outdated now
The Kodak DC280 is a 2.0 Megapixel digital zoom camera. I purchased this camera on behalf of the company I work for and paid £350 for it about 3 years ago. At the time I purchased this camera I thought that it was pretty good value for money considering the ease of use and features it had. At that time 2.0 Megapixels was a pretty good picture quality, just shows how times move on with 8 Megapixel and better cameras now on the market!
This camera ... ...is double clicking on the Kodak icon in My Computer (on the Windows desktop), opening up a series of folders and then you should be shown a list of the pictures on the camera. These photos will be recognised as JPEG images on your computer, which means that they will open up with pretty much any photo editing package you happen to have installed.
Conclusion
Ease of use and reliability are the two good reasons for considering this camera. On top ...

I bought my DC280 in January 2001 – it was bundled with a Lexmark P11 colour printer, total cost £360. For that price I got:
- Lexmark Pll colour printer
- DC280 digital zoom camera
- AC Adapter
- Battery Charger
- 4 * AA rechargeable batteries
- battery charger
- 4 * standard batteries (a nice touch as you are able to use the camera immediately while waiting for the rechargeable batteries to charge up)

I purchased a Kodak DC 280 camera in June and have found it to be easy to use and capable of producing excellent pictures. Anyone would be able to use it very quickly.

They charge quite quickly but it would be an advantage to carry a spare set.
My camera came with 8 MB card (which only holds 12 pictures at best quality) but it is possible to purchase cards at double this capacity. The price of £380 was excellent. I could not find another camera at 2 mega pixel and with a zoom and digital zoom for this price.

...do in this fast-developing marketplace, Kodak has kept pace and the company's latest camera utilises what the box refers to as '2.0 Megapixel' CCD technology. This effectively means that you can take pictures at up to a huge 1760 x 1168 resolution. Although the resulting downloaded images are many megabytes in size, it does mean that they approach the image quality of scanned photographic prints, particularly when outputting on high quality inkjet ... ...To supposedly make it easier, Kodak use icons for the camera functions but neglect to provide a text description. However, these icons are often difficult to figure out and take some getting used to. The manual suffers from the same approach - it's so eager to take you through picture taking step by step that finding out specific details quickly, such as how to set the camera for very best image quality, can be difficult. USB as well as serial port ...

...2 Megapixel pictures and the Kodak DC280 seems the ideal candidate.
One Megapixel cameras are fine for small reprints or web pictures but the extra quality of a 2 Mpixel machine can produce reasonable prints upto 10" x 8".

Models like the Kodak DC240 only go down to 38mm, but this just doesn't seem to me to be wide enough.
There are lots of clever little features on the camera, like the facility for putting frames around your pictures, but I prefer to do this sort of thing later on a PC.
Flash pictures aren't brilliant, but then most small cameras struggle. The flash causes shadows, and is only good from a few feet away from the subject. All in all, I'm ...

...in my comments about the Kodak 240, I upgraded to the 280 which has some extra features that the 240 does not have and is 2megapixel picture quality (1760x1168 pixels) captures all the detail you need for photo-realistic pictures with unbelievable detail, colour and shapness, produces 8x10 pictures, as opposed to the 240's 1.3megapixel which only produces a 5x7 picture.

Again the camera comes with a 8Mb Compactflash card and everything is supplied to get you up and running i.e. cables for downloading pictures to your printer or computer and rechargeable batteries and the battery charger and I almost forgot there is also a lead to allow you to plug the camera staight to your TV and view your pictures that way. A facility that the 240 also has.
Again due to the power drainage while downloading ...

I was after a decent camera, which offered good quality pictures at an affordable price. I was attracted to the DC280 not just because of the good pictures you could take with it, but it also came with battery charger and USB leads. There are many features available with the camera, the main one I like is the digital zoom, and a few fun features, like being able to put frames on the pictures before you download them. For the money I paid for this ...

I have tried this camera and found the on screen menus very easy to use and understand. Although the camera is slightly heavier than some on the market, the pictures that come out of it can be blowen up to 10 by 8 with out a problem. This camera has 2 million pixels for this purpose. The camera has a screen on the back which is a little thursty on batteries, but all cameras are like this. Comes now with only a 8 meg card, instead of 20 meg. The price ...

My purchase of a Kodak DC280 was more by accident than design. I purchased online from Simply Computers. I have not had cause to regret my 'buy'. It is a little on the heavy side but this imparts a feeling of solid workmanship. In use it has been marvellous, producing excellent pictures for my website as well as snaps for the family album. The controls are simplicity itself and make for rapid adjustments as and when needed. I have not used the parallel ...

The DC 280 is quite simply the best camera I've ever had. It's also my first digital camera and the quality of most of the images is excellent. The USB connection makes all the difference for downloading images to the PC and the camera is simple to use. The indoor shots have produced very little red-eye and (when I remember to use it) the portrait/close up setting means I can get in tight on my subjects without 'white out' or blurring.
