Advantages Advantages Infinately (well almost) settings, accurate settings, only for the keen photographers

Disadvantages Disadvantages autofocus and metering inaccurate, not good for occasional snappers

I bought a Minolta Z2 about 6 months ago. I have been an avid amateur photographer for years, done the photographic clubs etc, got bored with the expense of processing etc and I have always had Minolta cameras. But then the digital cameras came along and changed all that. There aint nothing wrong with Minolta’s reliability, but there’s certainly an air of cheapness of the finish when it comes to Konica, but times are hard, they’re squeezing more and more out of nothing and that costs nothing. But it seems to me that as Minolta are still in control of the upper markets (e.g. 7Hi). It looks like ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Picture Quality, Full Range Of Manual Controls

Disadvantages Disadvantages Switching To Viewfinder From Screen Is Worrying...

I have been getting more and more into Photography over the past year and I bought a Film SLR last christmas and although the camera is excellent its expensive to keep buying and developing films only to find less than perfect results. As a beginner to photography I am still trying to get to grips with focal lengths, shutter speeds etc and I often try new things out but its not until I get the film back I know if the results are any good or not and by then I cannot remember what settings I actually used for that photo... Its time to go digital and take advantage of instant results. I had read ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good quality pictures

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Unattactive back

Actually this is a good quality camera as you might expect from Konica. It looks great from the front very professional looking and solid which it is. It is big and definitely not pocket sized. The back looks strangely unfinished and flat. The on off switch is awkward for largish thumbs as well, and we have yet to find out how to turn off the very irritating noises it makes, although we have turned them down. The pictures are very high quality and software good, although on the usual CD-ROM. The batteries (4) last for a very long time and of course it uses rechargeables as well. The lens cap ... more

Advantages Advantages Sharp images, full manual controls, excellent value for money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bulky, cannot be used as webcam, need tripod when using full zoom

I bought a refurbished unit from Jessops for just over £100. Have had absolutely no problems with it and it takes sharp shots. You can use automatic settings or use any of the preset settings to take shots and even use the fully manual settings to get the right shot. It not being an slr in the full sense of the word, it sure is close to one. It may take a bit of time to get used to it afterall, there are so many settings which they've tried to tuck away under a few clicks and twists. You will need a tripod when taking shots using the full zoom as it is difficult to get a sharp shot at such ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, light, easy to use, excellent quality pictures.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Need tripod for maximum zoom strength

I entered the world of digital cameras for the first time with this modle. I found it easy to use and quickly learnt the basic functions. What was annoying was the instructions are all on cd which I had to print out myself in order to take them on holiday with me to learn more. The camera was the envy of everyone on my safari holiday. Whilst they struggled with large lenses and big heavy camera bags, I just snapped away with my small compact Z2. I would certainly recommend this camera for anyone who travels. Value for money is amazing in comparison to an SLR digital camera and performance ... more

Advantages Advantages full manual control, big zoom, good video mode, image quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages size of body, clunky mirror flip viewfinder, plastic build quality

I originally was looking for a digital camera to take over where my Olympus c220 zoom left off, but when i made a list of my desired features it became clear i would have a lot of looking to do. I needed my camera to take good indoor and outdoor photos of the kids/landscapes , Astronomy is a hobby of mine and so full exposure control was required . Three cameras came to the front after ages of research, fuji s5000,olympus 450uz and this the Z2. The Z2 won because it has all the features i required and more.Great image quality with A4 prints easy thanks to a 4 MP ccd, fully manual control from ... more

4 Stars Quick review of Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z2 by ski38 17/08/2008
My Dimage Z2 has just suddenly packed up?? It wont turn on? Taken it to a local camera shop who sent it somewhere to be looked at and now tell me you cant get spares anymore now and if they could it would cost around £150 to repair it! so not worth it. This camera has been brilliant and we're at a loss without it. Anyone got any ideas. Don't feel like giving up on it just yet? cheers.

Advantages Advantages Exellent light 4Megapix camera with 40x zoom and great features

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too big to carry around compared to other cameras

When I bought it I wasn't expecting this good camera.Pictures are great with auto focusing.Has 10 picture modes and also a video mode with resolusions of 800x600 at 15 fps,640x480 at 30 fps. There are 11 lenses in 7 different segments,so that's how it manages to have that 10 times optical zoom, and there is 4 times digital zoom which you will rarely have to use because the optical zoom does a great job. It also has a built in flash which does a great job with objects distaced up to 6 meters. And for a really close up images there is the Macro and Super Macro functions which can focus the lences ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Zoom and very responsive.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't fit in your pocket and the zoom is noisy in video mode.

I bought the Z2 in preference to the new Fjui S5500 partly due to the memory cards being about half the price - SD rather than XD. Given that the excellent VGA video mode eats up memory then this is something worth considering in the overall cost. The zoom lense (x10) produces great results the x4 digital zoom lets you get seriously close up to subjects. The camera has a vast array of options for over-riding the automatic settings. I've yet to get through them all, as the auto settings have served me well so far. Overall I am pleased with this camera, and have bought the baby brother (Z10) too ... more
