Advantages Advantages Nicely packaged and leaves more beer for me

Disadvantages Disadvantages Flavours overpower the alcohol - too much of a kiddy drink

It's just dawned on me that this is my first (and probably last) food and drink opinion. I’m not going to waste too much of your time on this. It’ll become clear that I didn’t like the products, flying in the face of the existing opinions on the subject, all of which seemed to imply that sweetness in a drink is a virtue. Excuse me while I wretch........... ................that's better. I’d been aware of Kopparberg Ciders for quite some time, but only being an occasional ‘cider person’, i.e. more of a beer drinker, I’ve tolerated cider as long as it plays ball with my taste buds, by: a) Not ... more

Yes, it's still the morning. Yes, it's a weekday. So, yes, it's probably inappropriate to review alcohol at this time, but needs must, so ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Kopparberg's Mixed Fruit cider. First of all, Kopparberg is a brewery (Kopparbergs Bryggeri) in the Swedish town of Bergslagen. It's current form has been around since 1994 after being taken over by a pair of brothers but the factory used to produce Kopparberg in all it's various forms has existed since 1945. The cider was introduced into the UK in 2003, and the rest, as they say, is history. Arguably, the pear version is ... more

Advantages Advantages smells good, tastes even better, lovely refreshing drink

Disadvantages Disadvantages lots of calories, possibly too easy to drink?

When I went away to Finland I gave up on drinking my usual spirits in favour of slightly cheaper cider, which admittedly was still rather expensive at €5 (which at the time was the same as a fiver) a go. Since being home I have kept my love of ciders (but only the nice sweet ones, not the proper stuff) and Kopparberg has proven to be one of my favourites. While the title of the product refers to the cans I am mainly talking about it being in a bottle - although of course the product is exactly the same. The bottle is typical of a cider – made of glass and green in colour. The label on the ... more

Advantages Advantages Perfect for the summer, traditionally made

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not easily available at the moment

I'm usually a lager drinker but when it comes to the summer I am always on the hunt for a new refreshing drink as lager just doesn't cut it. I like Strongbow cider and this year I started drinking Strongbow Sirrus which had been going down quite well over a glass full of ice. When the smoking ban kicked in July, our local J.D.Wetherspoons pub sent out vouchers for money off all types of drink and meals. Probably due to the fact they were slightly worried about how the ban would affect them. Within these vouchers were Kopparberg cider for £1.79 a bottle (usual price £2.10).They offered 4 ... more

    Advantages Advantages Delicious

    Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit pricey

Coming from Scrumpy land where cider home brew is an art form and an excellent fuel for starting a BBQ on a windy day and isn't just drunk by chav teenagers on street corners, I do feel a little like a traitor reviewing a pear cider over an apple one. But due to a cruel twist of fate I was diagnosed as being allergic to apples a few years ago (after a few years of snakebite and black consumption at university - apple cider and lager with a dash of blackcurrant for those who don't know- and wondering why I felt so ill next day - maybe it was just the amount I drank!) and so I didn't pay much ... more

    Advantages Advantages Taste, sweetness

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Price, availability

Now let me get somethings straight before I even start this review, A:yes I do drink too much, B:I'm not a big cider drinker and C:Things always look better in 3's. What is Kopparberg? Well Kopparberg are a Sweedish cider company and also the brands name for the ciders they make. They currently do 3 flavours (Pear, Apple and one of which I've forgotten the name of). Sweedish? Didn't know they had any breweries in Sweeden? Well actually neither did I until I heard about this stuff, I'd heard from a few people that the pear cider was like mind bogglingly nice so after spending a few months ... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful taste, unusual flavours, very refreshing.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be hard to get hold of sometimes.

I'm definitely not normally a cider drinker, preffering to stick to wine and spirits, but when a friend made me try this in a pub in Scotland a couple of years ago, I became hooked! WHAT IS IT? Kopparberg is Swedish cider made by a brewery in a Swedish town of the same name. The real beauty of this cider is that as well as doing your bog standard apple cider, they also make and sell more unusual flavours such as pear and summer fruits. PACKAGING The cider comes in lovely heavy old-fashioned style brown glass bottles, that make you think that you are drinking a proper manly mans drink! The ... more

Advantages Advantages Crisp sweet taste, refreshing. Goes down well.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some might find it too sweet, can be twice the price of cheap ciders.

Yummy yummy yummy. This cider is just about the best tasting cider I have ever tasted. I'm not a huge cider fan, but in my eyes Kopparberg Pear Cider is just about the best cider you can get. It has a crisp, sweet taste and is ever so refreshing when served cold over ice. Unlike a lot of ciders you won't find it being dry or bitter. The reason I don't drink most ciders in the first place. It goes down so well and is really a breeze to drink, and at 4.5% vol. you'll probably start to feel it after 2 or 3 pints. The bubbles are really fine and it doesn't bloat you up like other ciders tend to do ... more

    Advantages Advantages Taste

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Availabilty

Kopparberg Cider is exported from Sweden and has only really been available for a year or so. It comes in a variety of flavours but the most common are Apple & Pear (Summer Fruits also available). There are a lot of apple ciders on the market so I am just going to review the Pear Cider. The drink itself is excellent, its light and refreshing, slightly sweet but much nicer (and less sweet) than alcopops. Its flavour is quite unique, almost like a sparkling water with a dash of pear. Its very easy to drink and is best served over plenty of ice. Because of the type of drink it is, it is best ... more

Advantages Advantages pleasant taste, light, easy to drink

Disadvantages Disadvantages very fattening, quite expensive, high sugar content can cause headaches

Kopparberg fruit ciders come in a range of flavours including lime and elderflower, summer fruits, and of course apple, but in my opinion the pear cider is my far the nicest. Its imported from Sweden, and as a result can be fairly expensive, costing around £3 in pubs and restaraunts and setting you back around £2.50 even in low-cost drinking barns such as Wetherspoons. Most large supermarkets now stock it too, where it costs around £1.90 per 550ml bottle, although it can also be bought more cheaply in 550ml cans, although in my experience the canned version, whilst nice, don't have quite the ... more
