Advantages Advantages Lots of choice, fun to edit and play about with

Disadvantages Disadvantages When changed program number, audio cuts out

The microKORG is a very old but still good synthesizer to use. It is considered the beginner's synthesizer. It has 37 keys and 128 voices on it. You select these 128 voices via the Program Select knob which can switch it to the 8 options given which are: Trance, Techno/House, Electronica, D'n'B/Breaks, Hiphop/Vintage, Retro, S.E./Hit and Vocoder. There is an Side A/B button, so you can switch between the 8 program numbers given on each side, giving you the ability to choose between 128 voices (8*8*2=128). The LED is show as, for example A21, which means A (Side chosen), 2 (program selected via ... more

1 Star microRUBBISH! Review with images 07/06/2008
    User doesn't recommend the product

    Advantages Advantages lightweight

Disadvantages Disadvantages too many - look at the review..

The microKORG is one of the best selling synthesizers worldwide and has been used by several electronic bands such as Enter Shikari and Massive Attack. The box simply contains the tiny 2kg microKORG itself, the vocoder microphone, power supply and manual. Users may at first be surprised by exactly how small the product is if they haven't seen it in real life before. It has only 3 octaves, and the keys are reminiscent of those found on a toy keyboard. One thing is for sure; don't expect to be playing any Bach or Beethoven on this baby, as it is almost impossible to get any articulation or ... more

Advantages Advantages CHeap, good for begginner/pro, can get some good sounds if you know what your doing

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hard to use for begginner, not as sturdy as it could be

The microkorg is great for either beginners or professionals. It features 37 keys and 127 programs that are user-rewritable, giving you a lot of variation. These sounds range from electric pianso, basses , guitars, bells, synth pads etc. The different sound sections include - Trance, Techno/House, Electronica, D'n'B/Breaks, HipHop/Vintage, Retro, S.E Hit, Vocoder. All of these sounds are great to the beginne to play with, but when you start to actually use this with a band is when it becomes hard to get the sound you actually want. It is possible but takes a lot of tweaking. The keys on this ... more

Advantages Advantages Much fun for money, fat sounds

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small springy keys, trancy presets may turn people off

Toy looking, but quite a beast in a little box. It seems to have the same engine as the much larger MS2000. The presets are not for everyone, but with the free downloadable editor you can create your own sounds, and they are awesom. You can also use presets from the ms2000 which are available on the web. Plug the output in a good stereoset, with a sub-woofer if you have :-p and you will be surprised. The vocoder is good, the microphone good enough for home use. You can plug in audio as well as carrier as modulator, so it's possible to let external soundscouces be modulated by other ... more

Advantages Advantages amazing sounds, with real depth and realness

Disadvantages Disadvantages limited polyphony and memory bank, small keys

I have seen this piece of kit on stage with so many musicians ranging from the killers to my humble self. This instrument does come with some limitations, but what do you expect for something so small. Sometimes as a 4 note polypony but if you combine oscilators this can quickly turn into a single note instrument. but the range of sounds are amazing and after a quick flick through the manual youll find something you love. When creating digital music with my computer and a suibale soundcard i have really enjoyed using the arpeggiator and the build in effects. the only problem i have with this ... more
