Extremely good and fun to use

Advantages: Lots of choice, fun to edit and play about with
Disadvantages: When changed program number, audio cuts out

The microKORG is a very old but still good synthesizer to use. It is considered the beginner's synthesizer. It has 37 keys and 128 voices on it. You select these 128 voices via the Program Select knob which can switch it to the 8 options given which are: Trance, Techno/House, Electronica, D'n'B/Breaks, Hiphop/Vintage, Retro, S.E./Hit and Vocoder. There is an Side A/B button, so you can switch between the 8 program numbers given on each side, giving ...
...LED is show as, for example A21, which means A (Side chosen), 2 (program selected via knob), 1 (program number chosen). On the microKorg interface, you have: a volume control in the top left hand corner; an arpeggiator button below it in which the arpreggiator options can be changed via the Edit Select 2 knob; an octave shift as the synth only has three octaves and a 4th C at the top; a pitch bend wheel in which the bend value can be changed ...

Great little 'toy'

Advantages: CHeap, good for begginner/pro, can get some good sounds if you know what your doing
Disadvantages: Hard to use for begginner, not as sturdy as it could be

The microkorg is great for either beginners or professionals. It features 37 keys and 127 programs that are user-rewritable, giving you a lot of variation. These sounds range from electric pianso, basses , guitars, bells, synth pads etc. The different sound sections include - Trance, Techno/House, Electronica, D'n'B/Breaks, HipHop/Vintage, Retro, S.E Hit, Vocoder. All of these sounds are great to the beginne to play with, but when you start to actually ...
...to get the sound you actually want. It is possible but takes a lot of tweaking. The keys on this thing are quite small compared to other synths so if you have 'big' fingers it can be difficult to play at times! For the price this synth is very cheap, especially as it has a built in vocoder. But like the most of the sounds this is something you are only going to use once or twice! If you know your stuff you can get a lot from this synth, but it will ...

microRUBBISH!

Advantages: lightweight
Disadvantages: too many - look at the review..

The microKORG is one of the best selling synthesizers worldwide and has been used by several electronic bands such as Enter Shikari and Massive Attack. The box simply contains the tiny 2kg microKORG itself, the vocoder microphone, power supply and manual. Users may at first be surprised by exactly how small the product is if they haven't seen it in real life before. It has only 3 octaves, and the keys are reminiscent of those found on a toy keyboard. ...
...any Bach or Beethoven on this baby, as it is almost impossible to get any articulation or expression in the cheap, plastic, weightless keys. The preset sounds that are supplied are the epitome of mediocrity. On the other hand, the modulation wheel on the left of the keys is extremely handy and easy to use. However i felt that apart from the modulation wheel, it was very hard and complicated to change any of the attributes of the sound - mainly because ...

High fun factor

Advantages: Much fun for money, fat sounds
Disadvantages: Small springy keys, trancy presets may turn people off

Toy looking, but quite a beast in a little box. It seems to have the same engine as the much larger MS2000. The presets are not for everyone, but with the free downloadable editor you can create your own sounds, and they are awesom. You can also use presets from the ms2000 which are available on the web. Plug the output in a good stereoset, with a sub-woofer if you have :-p and you will be surprised. The vocoder is good, the microphone good enough ...
...as carrier as modulator, so it's possible to let external soundscouces be modulated by other soundsources. The keys are small and springy, but there's midi-in and out, so can use an external keyboard if you have. Whatever the musical value, my fun/money factor was higher than with many other devices! ...

Review of Korg microKORG

Korg microKorg a great sounding Synth even with limited polypony.

Advantages: amazing sounds, with real depth and realness
Disadvantages: limited polyphony and memory bank, small keys

I have seen this piece of kit on stage with so many musicians ranging from the killers to my humble self. This instrument does come with some limitations, but what do you expect for something so small. Sometimes as a 4 note polypony but if you combine oscilators this can quickly turn into a single note instrument. but the range of sounds are amazing and after a quick flick through the manual youll find something you love. When creating digital music ...
...enjoyed using the arpeggiator and the build in effects. the only problem i have with this instrument is the keys are very small and seem cheap compared to the rest of the instrument, but this can easy be midi controlled by another keyboard of ful size. i have played too much with the vocoder part so i cant comment. ...
