Koss Spark PLUG

Firstly, a little about my situation before I purchased these amazing little gadgets. I will be the first to admit, I'm not friendly to my headphones. They get dragged around, trodden on, bashed about in my bag, and put through far too much torment for each pair to last long, and so I normally find myself having to fork out for a new pair every few months. ...long these last for but Koss says they should last a life time (as if). However, if they don't, I won't be going back to conventional phones again as they only cost £5 and are impressive in my book. These have slightly better foam seals than the 'Plug' version of these phones, as it expands to fit the shape of your ear canal. ...ear pads wear out, but Koss provide a number of spares in the same pack which should last for a number of years. One word of warning - the sound isolation provided by The Plug really is effective, so watch out for traffic as you probably won't hear it coming ! Whilst I still think they are great earphones, I decided that it would probably be cheaper to buy a new set from a UK supplier. Luckily, I found a supplier of foam earplugs (intended for motorcyclists !) which provide a cheap and adequate alternative (£5.00 for a box of 50) to the official Koss ones. What do I want to go with my MP3 player so that I can enjoy my music - I know some earphones, I think I'll treat myself, spend a bit of money, so what am I looking for. Well as i said already have to say that the product was reasonably effective in what it was designed to do, certainly delivering the extar bass. This is a good theory and certainly along the right lines (making far more sense that active noise reduction), but a poorly designed cheap product. Reading the reviews I was initially concerned for getting a loud bass and no treble but then I decided to try them out with my ipod nano 3G. These turned out to be great earbuds with a very comfortable fit and a balanced sound for the price. Bass is great unless you push them too far down, which as expected causes the bass to become very loud, resulting in distorted and unnatural sound. My main complaint was fitting them into my ears. The ear pieces are basically foam earplugs. So as with foam earplugs, you need to roll and compress the foam between your fingers and before inserting in your ears. The foam pieces are then supposed to expand and create an air-tight fit in your ear (just like foam earplugs). In theory this does work, but it is very cumbersome trying to squeeze the headphones in to a suitable shape before quickly jamming ...
...often took me more than one attempt to fit properly and stay fitted. When the headphones were brand new this was hard enough, but once I had used them a few times, the foam quickly wore out and became less "spongy", so fitting became even more difficult. As for durability, well one of the headphones just stopped working after about 2-3 months. I wasn't fussed as I was sick of them anyway and was about to throw them out. Originally had the koss 'the plug' headphones and was very happy with their saound and bass. after a while i needed a replacement and thought i would get this newer version. one thing that did annoy me with the old and this new version is the wire gets tangled very easily and is very flimsy when compared to a pair of sony headphones. i have found that these headphones do not fit as well as the previous version did. hopefully this will change over ...
