17" of Solid, Pulsating, High Technology

Advantages: Geometrically perfect display, Low power, Easy on the eyes
Disadvantages: Cost

Intro ŻŻŻ We've had this monitor since Christmas and it's served us well ever since. To start with, it is a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) monitor, so it doesn't have to accelerate electrons to high speeds so they smash against a phospher screen, creating light. Instead the light is provided evenly by what amounts to a couple of flourensent bulbs - and the colour is controlled in each pixel seperately with tiny electric fields. It's a remarkable ...
...together and produce a life-like image... which is why TFT's are rather expensive and sometimes come with dead pixels. This particular screen has a 17" viewable area (measured diagonally). Whilst the screen is fairly light, the base adds weight to the whole thing, so it weights 6.6 kg... still less than a normal CRT monitor (like a TV). The display contains 1280 by 1024 pixels and each pixel can display over 16 million colours... much beyond our ...

L1710B - The panel for gamers.

Advantages: 16ms response time. DVI.
Disadvantages: It's not black!!! No swivel and pivot.

...the rage these days and LG do not provide this monitor with a black surround. Although the silver is quite nice with plastic at the sides measuring around 1cm in width there is not much of it! LCD panels have a native resolution. A resolution which it displays best. Deviation from this resolution can distort pictures. This panel's native resolution is 1280*1024. This is excellent for the internet and other applications as there is plenty of room ...
...a good graphics card to be able to output games at this resolution. Also LCD panels are notorious for having poor viewing angles. Look at the panel from an incorrect angle and the colours go all wild. This panel does not suffer much from this unless you go to the right extremes of the monitor when it will have a urine yellow tint to the screen! I wholeheartedly recommend this monitor for any purpose! Technical Specs: # Contrast Ratio: 450:1 ...

Flatscreen: the way forward

Advantages: Saves shed loads of space
Disadvantages: Not for the gamers amongst you

I recently aquired the LG Flatron 1710S in a bid to save some space on my computer table. I used to have an old 15 inch CRT monitor which took up half of the desk and only just about left me with enough room to get the keyboard and mouse on the table. with the flat screen half of the desk is free for other junk! On pulling the beast out of the box you can see that it looks sharp, not to mention that you do not have to be a professional weightlifter ...
...dead easy with only two wires to deal with and it was then automatically detected by the computer so installation was not a problem either. The display is huge as you lose very little of the seventeen inches with a flat screen display. This is great for spreadsheet work such as excel etc Maximum resolution is around 1200 x 1000 on this model which is great. Those digital photos and DVD's look great. However if you are into PC games then beware. ...

LG Flatron L1710S - best monitor I've bought!

Advantages: Compact, aesthetically pleasing
Disadvantages: None!

Like many other peple I decided to buy a flat screen monitor because of a need for space. The old-style monitors really do take up an awful lot of room, and apart from that are both cumbersome and heavy, and not the best things in the world to look at. The LG1710S 17-inch flat screen monitor I bought was well worth the money at £299 (this was some months ago now so shop around and I'm sure you'll be able to find it cheaper). The screen menu took ...
...navigation systems do) and once I'd familiarised myself with that there were no problems. It worked with my PC instantly and delivers a sharp, easy-on-the-eye view. You can fine-tune the brightness, contrast, colour ratios, everything else you can think of, to a minute degree. It's not the lightest flat screen monitor in the world but it does ease the pressure on desk space an awful lot, and the silver edges around the sreen look very nice. It comes ...

LG L1710B a flattened marvel!

Advantages: 16ms. Very Bright. Sleek and Straight to the Point.
Disadvantages: Can't find any.

I first got my LG L1710B about 2 and a half years ago; which yes in the world of computers may aswel be a century ago. with the introduction of the LG L1710B one of the first 16ms response screens on the market gamers and film viewers can now watch their screens without seeing an anoying ghost of what they are seeing on screen. when i first baught mine it cost me £360.00 which took forever to save trust me. straight from the box i loved it. it was ...

A truly excellent all-rounder

Advantages: Excellent refresh rate, easy set up, superb picture quality
Disadvantages: None that I can find.

I've been using the LG L1710B for just over a year now so for those interested in buying one this may help. The set up was extremely easy and as I have 2 computers I was able to link both of them to this monitor as it has both standard and DVI input and an easily accessable button which you use to switch bewteen the two inputs. The picture quality is outstanding and can handle a maximum resolution of 1280x1024, also the 17" screen size is the actual ...
...The extremely fast refresh rate of 16ms makes this monitor a true all-rounder as this means that the screen can keep up with up to date, high speed, demanding games without any problem at all - not many of the flat screen TFT monitors out there can boast this refresh rate and this is the first TFT i've used that can keep up, i've just finished playing Doom 3 and there wasn't one situation where ghosting or slowdown took place. Another thing I've ...

Pretty darn good.

Advantages: Good value for money
Disadvantages: No real complaints

I've had the monitor for... 2 years now (don't quote me on that, it's not the sort of thing I remember) and so far no complaints. Although I don't know the actual price of the monitor, the whole set I bought it with was pretty cheap, definitely good value for money. The picture's always clear, it's nice and compact and it hasn't done anything mean (touch wood) unlike previous screens I've owned. Unlike some other flat-screen monitors, this one allows ...
...right without the picture going all screwy. This is especially useful if you want to play games with friends, as more than one person can see the screen at the same time. There are also two extra USB ports on the back, a useful commodity when your little brother wants to plug in his iPod, digital camera, bluetooth thingamajig and god knows what else at the same time. The only fault I can think of is that it doesn't swivel, so it's not the easiest ...

...is my past experiance with LG products, both a CD-Rom and a CRT monitor broke when they were just out of their warranty period. This monitor has a three year guarantee, which is a decent length of time i suppose. It is a very nice monitor, however if you do not need to save deskspace then i would suggest you buy a CRT monitor for about £200 cheeper! ...

Go flat.

Advantages: Saves space, emits less radiation.
Disadvantages: poorer resolution than crt's

The LG Flatron L1710s cost is near on the top end for a budget 17-inch LCD, you should be able to find the Flatron L1710S at competitive prices. It offers unique features, but shares many of the flaws and limitations of other midrange products. The box-top printed documentation is good, and the included CD is quite okay, though it referred to USB ports that were not present .The L1710S has brightness uniformity, good color tracking, and smooth color ...

Brilliant, value-for-money monitor

Advantages: Both DVI and normal monitor inputs, swivel stand with pen holder, USB hub
Disadvantages: No integrated speakers

Owned this monitor for nearly a year now, and I have absolutley no complaints about it. The display is crisp and clear, with a good resolution. I heard a rumour that TFT's only worked at one screen resolution, but this is NOT TRUE, as mine works on whatever I put it on. The USB hub is exceptionally useful, as it means you don't need to mess around at the back of the computer when connecting digital cameras and other USB devices. However, I found ...
...stopped working. If you have ports on the back/front of your computer too, this shouldn't present a problem. Picky people might say that the controls on the front feel a bit cheap, and that there are no integrated speakers, but if you use external speakers it sounds better anyway! A recommended purchase for those not wanting to spend a fortune. ...

Fantastic!

Advantages: Superb picture
Disadvantages: Only 2 ports on the USB hub

This really is a great monitor! I've used one for some months and love it. The picture is crisp when at the native resoultion (1280x1024) although when the resolution is lowered the picture does become a little fuzzy. Running at the native resolution is no problem though since the monitor is physically big. Refresh rate is perfectly adequate at 60Hz. Colour over the screen is very even and is as bright as one would require. It even comes with colour ...
...angle is good however the vertical viewing anlge leaves a little to be desired. The monitor has VGA and DVI inputs and can automatically select the active one so setting the thing up is really easy. It has a USB hub built into the base but there is only two ports. The stand can swivel and tilt and has the power brick built in so it won't be cluttering up the floor. You can't swivel the monitor though. On screen menus are simple and easy to navigate. ...

Had one of these for a month now...

Advantages: Crystal clear picture, fast for gaming
Disadvantages: Dead pixels are an issue with LG products

A fantastic monitor, one of the best flatscreens at a very decent price. Very low response times which make it ideal for watching videos or playing games. Color is vibrant and accurate. It is lightweight, easy to install and connect. There are a wide range of options on the monitor to adjust the brightness and contrast as you need. In any room lighting, the image clarity is stunning. Bright and clear image quality, playing fast games such as first-person ...
...a wide multitude of games and DVDs on this screen and they are superb. Only concern would be that the model I received had dead pixels (blue) up in the top-right corner, but this is a risk you take with any LCD monitor. If they are at the edge, you will not notice them for pretty much 99% of the time. Obviously you can get a replacement if you get a monitor with clusters in the centre of the screen. Overall one of the best flatscreens currently ...

LG monitor

Advantages: Sleek and stylish
Disadvantages: Not the best for games

This is the best monitor ive had because before this Flatron L1510S I had a big white 15inch monitor which took up most of my desk and I had no more room for anything else to put on my desk. When I took it out of the box the first I noticed was the weight it about 6 times lighter than my old monitor which was great. The monitor looks stylish being silver and black which gives it a futuristic look. Maximum resolution is around 1200 x 1000 on this ...
...at photos even better. The response time for the monitor is not the greatest so if you are a gamer then beware it can be a little slow when playing fast moving games. Overall this is a monitor that should be used for work because they can save space and make using spreadsheets easy to look at because you can see across the charts more than a 15inch monitor. ...
