Toned triumph for a colour virgin! Diamond review

AdvantagesLooks really, really good when finished

DisadvantagesTakes a lot of concentration and time, and makes a mess!

"...appeared on the tv for L'Oreal Couleur Experte and I thought I would give it a go. I'll start by describing my experiences and i'll include all the technical information at the end for those of you who like that sort of thing (and the rest of you can skip it!). CHOOSING THE PRODUCT Well, for me, it all started in Sainsbury's. A whole entire wall of hair colour! I quickly spotted the L'Oreal, and i'll point out that this is the first and last ..." ~ Don't believe the pretty pictures ~

AdvantagesDoes dye your hair...

DisadvantagesOver priced, doesn't do what it says on the tin!

"L'Oreal Couleur Experte: Protective Multi-tonal colour system - Colour + harmonised highlights. I normally dye my hair every month or two (I get bored very easily, and changes in hair colour are less offensive to my boyfriend than me getting more piercings or a tattoo!). I'd seen the adverts on TV and the highlights looked really prominent and their hair looked luscious so I thought I'd try it out. My first problem with this product is that I tried ..." Read review

AdvantagesDyes your hair a fetching colour

DisadvantagesHIghlights? What highlights?

"Well seeing as though each time I try a new hair dye, it mysteriously disappears from shop shelves forever, I am constantly searching for new ideas to keep my red hair … red! And once I saw this particular product in the shops and on the tv, well it was too much for this gal (yes there is such a thing as the advertiser’s dream – and here I am!). Mack had to have it! As my hair has now been cut and is looking half way decent for a change, I decided ..." Read review

Eerrgghh!!! What Have I Done?!?!?! Diamond review

AdvantagesI didn't pay full price for it (hooray for Wilkinsons!)

DisadvantagesIt ain't the colour it says it is!

"...conditioner, and a packet of L'Oreal Couleur Experte (in "Chocolate Mousse" shade,as I recall). This, on the packet, was brown with reddish streaks, not too dissimilar to my hair at the time. I hoped to just enhance the look I already had. I chose L'Oreal, because generally I trust their products, and because this relatively new dye product claims to look more natural by adding complimentary streaks to the finished result. After all, that's what ..." Read review

do you have the patience?

AdvantagesQuality for money, instructions thorough.

DisadvantagesTime consuming, colour different to shade on box.

"*** L'Oreal Couleur Experte *** Well on Friday I am off to a wedding and slightly short of money this month thanks to the car costing an arm and a leg, just for the MOT. So my plans of a lovely trip (EXPENSIVE ONE) to the hair dressers, I of course went in search of something that I could do a lot cheaper, hassle free and by myself. I usually do dye my hair with Schwartzkopt dyes in the blue boxes as I feel their colours are more vibrant, but ..." Read review

Warning DO NOT try this at home

AdvantagesGreat idea and looks good in the ads

DisadvantagesYou could end up looking like you've been tango'd

"I've been watching the adverts for this innovative new hair colouring system for a few weeks now and finally, when browsing in Boots at the weekend, I decided it was my turn to transform myself into a hair highlighted goddess. The product was reduced from £12.99 to £9.99 so I thought I’d better investigate further. I found myself surveying the shelf in front of me and wondering which colour I should select. The choice was very impressive ..." Read review

Because I'm worth it

Advantagesinnovative idea, two tone system where you control your own highlights

Disadvantagestime consuming, more expensive than other home kits

"I like to experiment in home self-tan, home hair colouring, etc and have had mostly successful results. You can imagine my delight when I discovered this new, innovative hair colouring products advertised in a magazine. I rushed to Tesco and couldn’t find it there, although I did manage to track it down in Boots. It is currently priced at £9.99 until 17th July, when it will become the usual price of £12.99. What is so special about it? It is basically ..." Read review

Dyeing for a new look.

AdvantagesSave yourself a fortune

Disadvantagestime-consuming

"...grief, but I had found L'Oreal Coleur Experte in a Boots superstore on offer from £9.99 to £5.99, so decided to give it a go. I bought the 8.4, which is described as Apricot blonde. The Product. Quite a large red box, offering a multi-tonal colour system in two easy steps. Inside are two separate compartments, one for the base colour and one for the highlighting effect. The packaging looks expensive and impressive. The first compartment ..." Read review

What to expect from Couleur experte!

AdvantagesEasier than Highlighting

DisadvantagesBit time consuming

"...again,and the kind people at l'oreal have added a £3.00 off voucher inside the pack. I believe there are about 10 colours in the range. It is available for most Boots stores and I guess the supermarkets will be selling it too. Look out for a BIG box in Bright RED packaging. Don't dye another day...do it today!

AdvantagesProfessional-looking results

DisadvantagesCan be a bit fiddly to do

"...or any other progressive colourants. L'oreal also recommend doing a skin sensitivity test 48 hours before dyeing your hair to make sure you're not allergic to any of the ingredients. All in all I'd say this was a great dye for when funds won't stretch to a salon trip, and represents great value for money. ..." Read review

Badger It

AdvantagesCheap, but looks it

DisadvantagesDamaging

"My young hairdressing apprentice nervously sidled up to me as I was deep in conversation with a client as we were discussing her hair styling requirements and then tried to interrupt me. My apprentice was a very discreet and experienced trainee so I realised she wouldn’t bother me unless it was important. I excused myself and joined my apprentice, with her very concerned face, in a quiet corner of the salon. I only needed to glance briefly at ..." Read review

Stripes and.....spots???

AdvantagesGreat lasting base colour, fantastic if done correctly

DisadvantagesNot always the colour you expect! Expensive, messy, time consuming

"Firstly i would like to apologise for any spelling mistakes and typos!! I am currently writing this with my 8 month old daughter on my lap!!! Now, every girl likes to experiment with their hair don't they? Well i sure do! Since i was first allowed to dye my hair (ok it was only shaders and toners to start with!), i have been brunette, blonde, red, and yes even purple (it said auburn on the packet dammit). So when i saw all the gorgeous women on ..." Read review

Why pay £40 for a colour at the salon?

AdvantagesLovely rich colour, beautiful shine, and you can control the highlights.

DisadvantagesYou must think about your natural colour, and careful not to mix the base and highlights!

"My natural colour is light brown, nice when it's long, or in the summer when there's lots of colour variation, but around this time of year it starts to look dull. I suppose I could have gone for a tinted gloss or a semi-permanent, and if you just want a bit of warmth without committing yourself, there are plenty of excellent ones on the market. With Couleur Experte however, I was intrigued as I was sick of all the block colours I 'd tried previously ..." Read review
