Advantages Advantages Affordable DIY-kit that delivers a brown which really shows up on naturally dark hair, available in a wide range of colours from blondes/browns/reds to purples

Disadvantages Disadvantages Formula is quite strong - contains some bleach, ammonia smell is strong, not suitable for already dry, weakened hair, quite runny hence can be messy

I have naturally blackish-brown hair with a very subtle reddish cast. I've been dyeing my hair since 10 years ago - both at the salon, and trying out DIY-home-dyeing kits at home, so I know a bit about hair dyes and the way they react on my hair. I stopped dyeing my hair regularly about 3 years ago when I got pregnant. I wanted to give my hair a much needed "rest" because I'd been dyeing my hair for 6 years consecutively and could hardly remember how it felt like to have my natural hair colour back! Since then, I've tried tone-on-tone home-DIY kits (semi-permanent) occasionally, but they don't ... more

Advantages Advantages Very bright, noticeable colour

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lasted about 1 week

Just think - a woman with long, lustrous hair..... (so ok, I'm taking a little poetic licence) - what could be better? Hmmm.... perhaps a shade which enables people to notice me? Something to suit my personality? Has to be..... bright, passionate, deep red. I've been thinking about dyeing it for years and hence, after much thinking and agonising, I selected the Feria Ruby Red, supposedly permanent hair colour. Packaging --------- The 'very modern' packet certainly stood out on the shelf, promising 'bright, vibrant colour' and an 'ultra noticeable shade'. Many of the other hair colours looked ... more

Advantages Advantages Vibrant Colour, Easy Application

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Fades quickly

In the pursuit of vibrant red/brown hair I by now must have surely tried all the brands on the market that offer such a shade (unfortunately not many...). The problem I seem to find with red dyes is that they don't hold very long; having spoken to a colour specialist at the Vidal Sassoon Advanced Academy I have found out that this is an unfortunate problem you basically just have to live with for this colour as the dye molecules don't cling as well to the hair as other shades and therefore a large amount will come out within the first weeks after colouring, even if the colour is theoretically ... more

Advantages Advantages It keeps me looking STUNNING

Disadvantages Disadvantages It dose not stop my grey growing back

I like to walk down the street and know that my hair is looking radiant. As I approach 50 - the grey is creeping in (well actually its rushing in like a crashing wave!) I go for some pretty bright colours. I really like the reds and burnt oranges, and find that L'Oreal has these colours to offer and does a good job in hiding the grey. L'OREAL FÉRIA COLOR BOOSTER in the usual box size and shape and has inside, an instruction leaflet, always useful for the first time user, even after having coloured my hair for decades I still refer to it, checking the time to leave the application on, whether I ... more

Advantages Advantages Lasts for about a week

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lasts for about a week

My mother told me during an episode of Top of the Pops circa 1985 that Madonna would be bald by her thirties because she dyed her hair so much. Since the age of 16 and my own shower facilities I have followed Madge in the quest for unnaturally, natural hair with no baldity yet. And so to this day it fills me with glee when patients ask if my colour (redhead) is natural and which part of Ireland I come from - "Dartford mate and that's bottled!" I bought L'Oreal Paris Feria Color (Colour) Booster from my old faithful Wilkinsons - it was £3.99 and the shade I choose was P75 (no, not redundancy) ... more

Advantages Advantages the colour, the gloves

Disadvantages Disadvantages the price (£6-7) and the texture of the hair dye

Let it not be me to dare make disparaging remarks about the company that tells us we are all worth it, but worth what exactly...? If the price of beauty comes at staining damn near everything surrounding me a fairly attractive shade of red, then im not sure it is such a bargain. Loreal has been a great provider of hair dye for me for a couple of years, even my hairdresser reccomended it for home use. I tried most of the range, except the Feria range, which I thought seemed a leeetle far fetched, 3D colour? What? But this new one caught my eye (well really it was the model with the gorgeous ... more

Advantages Advantages Brilliant immediate colours and shades

Disadvantages Disadvantages extremely strong and vile chemical smell

I have been dying my hair different colours and shades since I was 14, and have never had any problems with hair dyes or colourants. After my blonde streaks from a previous hair adventure had been hacked out by a talented hairdresser, I decided to go for something different for the summer, a nice bright shade of purple. Strolling in the health and beauty section of Boots, I come to the Hair colourant section and browse the shelves until i see a shade I like, called "Purple Power". Picking the box up, I checked at the colour my hair type would go by the small guide and then went to pay for my ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Colour and red shades

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Extremely strong smell

My friend Amy said that she needed to colour her hair so off we went to the good ol' shop savers. In we went an stood looking at a cliff face of hair colour. My friend after much deliberation chose Feria Colour Booster in shade P46 PURE RUBY POWER. This is a intense deep red colour and is not your normal bright pillarbox red. There are many different shades and recently I have been noticing three for four new shades that are hitting the shelves, all variants of red, copper and plum. After we got in we relaxed and got into it, there was, * 1 bottle colourant gel *1 applicator bottle of ... more

Advantages Advantages Great colour selection, Easy to use.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Picking a shade can be hard.

Having been dying my hair since I was about 12 year of age I consider my self a dab hand with the ole 'home dying kits' It's been so long since I've had my natural colour I'm a bit unsure of it! From the start I always went for a red/purple look to enhance my dark brown hair. Moving from Wash-in Wash-out types up to permanent dyes around the age of 16 when my first few grey hairs started appearing (Oh! The pain of going grey early!) I'm always on the look-out for a new product that will do exactly what I want: dye it a lovely glossy colour, long lasting, not too harsh on my already dry hair ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great colours

    Disadvantages Disadvantages very messy

In August I went to visit my family who live in Plymouth. After going clubbing we came home and drank some more. After half a bottle of whiskey I decided that it was about time I drastically changed my image. My cousin being a hairdresser volunteered to cut my hair.At the time I had long blonde hair, and wasnt sure about getting it chopped, especially as my cousin had drunk copious amounts of alchohol. After much persuasion I gave in and thought 'what the hell.'....all my lovely long hair has now gone!!! The next day I was browsing round boots looking for a energy drink to help my hangover, when out ... more
