    4 Stars Shiny locks. 21/07/2009

Advantages Advantages Gives great shine to hair, subtle result with light shades, can be divided to 2 colouring sessions

Disadvantages Disadvantages Smell not great, consistency a bit runny for highlights, lightening power not very strong.

L'Oreal Recital Preference is a permanent hair colour range I've been using every now and then when trying to look for the right shade for highlights across different ranges. It comes in a shiny looking cardboard packaging, with a brown and gold colour scheme. The box includes: a bottle of developer cream, a bottle of colour liquid, a tube of conditioner, gloves and an instruction sheet. The bottle of colour liquid needs to be poured into the developer cream bottle and shaken to get mixed. The consistency and texture of the mixture is a fairly runny gel rather than a cream, and is with some ... more

Advantages Advantages high quality effective dye with excellent gloves

    Disadvantages Disadvantages quite pricey

As a brunette, I tend to get rather bored with the colour of my hair and often dye it black as lighter colours don't show up well and black ALWAYS works. I've tried a variety of different dyes; some smelled lovely but didn't last long, others lasted but took a long time to wash out and then tended to 'bleed' later on - staining my clothes and towels. I usually spend a maximum of five pounds on a dye, but this time I decided to treat myself with my Boots Advantage points (that I had earned simply by paying for my shopping with my Boots Advantage credit card - powered by Egg) and I came home ... more

Advantages Advantages Conditioning, good value, great colour.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fades a little with time.

Red and blonde and purple and brown and pink... I've been them all! Not at the same time obviously, but I've been them all and some more than once. I've been dying my hair since I was 13-years-old and I've done "Wow!", "What have you done to your lovely hair?!", and my personal worst, the silence of your friends when the dye has made no difference whatsoever. Now, I have it sorted though and satisfied my need for the perfect hair dye... My criteria for the perfect hair dye are: * The ultimate shade of deepest purple - which should leave my hair the SAME colour as on the box! * A beautiful ... more

Advantages Advantages Good range of colours, easy to apply - nice gloves

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Permanent

Why do women colour their hair? Why do men colour their hair? I suppose we like to have a change, to improve on what God has given us. I believe we are buying into a dream, a sort of myth, when we hand over our money for hair colourants, as with so many other beauty products. We see Jennifer Aniston and Heather Locklear on the telly with their glorious shining locks on display and we are told that we, too, can have hair like them. ‘Because you’re worth it!’ So we swallow it, hook, line and sinker as we rush to the chemists to buy into the dream. The reality is so often ... more

Advantages Advantages Didn't smell too bad

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Didn't really work

I was fed up of my hair! I used to be Blonder, but as the years are progressing the blonde is gradually turning into mousey... How can I be a true Essex Girl with mousey hair!?! :oP After months of staring at all the wide varieties of dyes on the supermarket shelves and thinking "Shall I?" I finally took the plunge. Not from a supermarket shelf, but from a bargain bucket n a local chemist. 99p for something that is normally £4.69! How could I resist :o) I looked all over the packet (a gold/coppery box with a very blonde lady on it) to see if there was a sell by date that had expired! Nothing ... more

I've used Clairol Nice and Easy for about two years now, and I'd always been happy with the results. My motto is if something works for you, stick to it. However Clairol have recently changed the box design, and thus made claims of a new improved formula. I used the new improved formula, and in one word, it was a joke, the colour was rubbish, and it faded after a week. That's why I changed to L'Oreal. The brand I tried by L'Oreal Recital Les Blondissiones in Lightest Natural Blonde. I thought I'd write this opinion by stating what claims L'Oreal makes about this colorant, then write in a ... more

L'Oreal Recital Les Rouges Passion is my salvation from being a naturally boring brunette. The thought of using pre lightening agents (bleach) puts the fear of god into me, but with having naturally dark hair i was close to resigning myself to the fact that dying my hair anything other than black would be impossible without them. That was, until i discovered L'Oreal Recital Les Rouges Passion. A wonderful range of red shades, i chose the Intense Red. It recommends use of a pre lightener for very dark hair but i decided to try it without anyway. The pack contains 3 bottles, (colour, developer ... more

I'm one of those very rare people in life who is a natural blonde and hates it! Call me strange if you will, but for the past 3 years i have been dying my hair dark brown-Brazillia brown (number 3)to be exact! The Recital range is the best i've come across in all my years of hair colour experimentation. This range actually lasts in my hair long enough for me to get blonde roots, where most other hairdyes tend to have faded long before then. Recital also gets bonus points for the durability of its colour, since i am a swimmer and train about 4 times a week, i find that chlorine can interact ... more

Advantages Advantages Leaves hair in good condition, good results

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Colour range

I can thoroughly recommend this hair dye for the nervous first time home dyer. The instructions are idiot proof ( I understood them!), the plastic gloves are easy to put on, thanks to a clever way they are attached on one side to the pamphlet so that you can simply slip your hands into them. Mixing the dye is also easy as long as you remember to snip the top off as soon as you have mixed it so it can breathe! The smell is not too offensive, which makes a change from most of the top of the range dyes around, and it doesn't choke you! Even though recital don't claim to be able to lighten your ... more

The L'Oreal Recital range also includes the hair lightener/bleach called Super Blonde. Pah! I take issue with that name! For a while, admittedly, it used to be my first choice in off-the-shelf home use lighteners but over the years they seem to have weakened the formula to allow for all those silly kids that don't read the instructions properly and therefore avoid disasters. Ever seen teenagers walking around with obviously bleached hair which is more of a custard yellow or copper colour? You have? I bet they used this! I'm a peroxide white blonde (and proud!) of about 20 years standing and ... more
