Advantages: Compact, easy to set up, and nice design
Disadvantages: Slightly loud and supplied with pathetically short USB cable

...plug it in. There is Lacie "1 click backup" software supplied if needed and all required cables and power supply. The USB cable is however probably about half a meter long which is ridiculous so you may need to consider purchasing a longer cable or USB extension. LaCie have obviously marketed this external drive at the people who want both a functional computer system and a good-looking one. The drive has been designed with F. A. Porsche and has a nice minimalist look to it, a metallic grey case with all most mirrored front the drive looks great, even better when stacked with another one. This Lacie drive looks very nice when taken out of the box - designed by Porsche - minimalist styling etc etc but that isn't worth anything unless it works. All I can say is that I had it up and running with all my data and backups from my hard disk within about 2 minutes of plugging in the USB. My PC is 3 years old running XP with all the Service packs and was slowing down because of the amount of space taken up by my old stuff - a lot of scans ... Read review

To start this drive looks good and feels heavy which gives an immediate impression of sound quality. There is an instruction manual on provided disc. Its 190 x 110 x 35 mm in size, so small enough to tuck away out of sight, although it's best to give adequate ventilation whilst running as it's passively cooled (no fan - near silent). If using as a backup device you will need to install Silverlining 98 from the mentioned disc, or use your own software. ... Read review
