I bought this since it was recommended as a cheap linux-compatible webcam. At £15, you can't get much cheaper. Installation was simple, it worked out of the box after installing the spca5xx drivers. I bought 2 of these some time about 2 years ago for £30, which was pretty good, and I was looking froward to using it. At the time I didn't really care or notice that the body of the cam was pretty ummm . . . poor, dull, bulky, ugly. What ever you want to call it, it's not the best of looking things. The cam does do, perfectly well the jobs a web cam needs to do. It works on Skype, MSN, Yahoo, AOL and other messaging etc clients, and it delivers ...

Compared to new web cams you will find the resolution isn't up to scratch at a measly 640x480 and 30FPS for video and a fairly alright 1280x960 for stills. The picture quiality when used with MSN Messenger has always been fantastic and we have never had any problems with the sound either...although as with all webcams every so often it does tend to stick for a few seconds.
