...and tubes and tubes of Lansinoh breastfeeding cream. I even rang my mum from the hospital to ask her to buy me some!
As a novice to feeding (and I am really a novice, I wasn't very experienced at all after my failed attempt with my son) I made a few mistakes in the first few days that cost me my own comfort. My daughter is a comfort sucker, she likes the feeling of sucking like many newborns do and so while she seemed to be happily feeding and latched ... ...of smearing a dot of Lansinoh over the chapped area. It is a greasy, very waxy substance that is designed to provide a wet barrier over the nipple and allow the skin to heal underneath. Lansinoh is 100% Lanolin. which is a natural substance that provides sheep with their own waterproof barrier so you can guess that it does something similar for the chapped skin; it effectively waterproofs the nipples so no more damage can occur while the nipple is ...

WHAT IS LANSINOH?
------------------------------
Lansinoh is made from 100% Lanolin, which is a waxy substance found in sheep and other wool-bearing animals. It's secreted under their skin to act as a water-proof barrier and mostly is found in their wool. Ever wondered how sheep never minded the rain and cold? Now you know!
The idea of using this in a nipple cream ... ...like a scab on a wound, which lets the nipple gain back its moisture. The main reason breast-feeding nipples crack is the lack of moisture, which is taken from you when your child feeds, therefore, somehow you need to let your nipple get that back in a short amount of time.
PACKAGING
-------------------
As you can see from the picture the cream comes in a purple tube like a hand cream. It has a lid that is top-down, using gravity to our advantage, ...

Lansinoh
After the birth of my daughter, the gorgeous and currently snoozing Eva Rose, I had quite a time of it with the whole breastfeeding milarky. Now firstly, for all you soon to be mums out there, don't believe anyone who says breastfeeding doesn't hurt. To begin with, maybe for a week, maybe for two, you will have some discomfort as your nipples get used to being food distributors for the duration. Getting your baby latched on properly, and ... ...help, but if you do nothing else, get a tube of this and carry it around with you wherever you go once baby has arrived.
What is it?
Well despite being incredibly hard to pronounce, and rather difficult to find in shops (try a big Boots store, the smaller ones don't seen to stock it), it is literally, or at least was in my case, miracle cream. Made from 100% medical grade lanolin, with no additives, it is a wonderful way to soothe and protect sore ...

...that for my friends’ pregnancies, Lansinoh wasn’t available in the UK. Orders were placed on the internet or American relatives were dispatched off to local pharmacies. However, a year ago Lansinoh started to be sold in the UK – at Mothercare, Lloyds Pharmacy and Waitrose. So at my next visit to Mothercare, I bought a tube (£4.95). (1) It does not need to be removed prior to breastfeeding. This is a real bonus when you have so little time as a new mother. Anything that cuts down time, even if it is only 10 seconds, is a bonus.
(2) It is made of 100% Lansinoh Brand Lanolin (ultrapure medical grade lanolin), which is apparently why it is so effective. It also means that it is hypoallergenic – essential in such a ...

Advantages: Pure lanolin, hypoallergenic, EFFECTIVE, no need to clean off before a feed Disadvantages: price - but well worth it
Does this cream justify its hefty price tag (£9.99)? In a word - "YES". When I was pregnant and on a budget I didn't give much thought to breastfeeding, apart from the fact that I wanted to do it. It came as something of a surprise when I was in hospital with my little girl when my nipples hurt like made every time she fed. My feet curled up, I cried, and the kindly midwives brought me trial packs of Lansinoh. I couldn't believe the difference it ... ...have stopped breastfeeding there and then.
So what is it? Is is a highly refined pure lanolin cream that you apply to your nipples and thankfully do not have to remove before feeding. It is a natural, non-toxic product, that is kind to even the most sensitive skin. It has a strange colour and texture - like a thick, gloopy honey. This is because it hasn't been chemically bleached like cheaper products on the market.
When you start breastfeeding, ...

I tried every nipple cream going while first feeding my oldest daughter. And I didnt find any that I liked or that helped. On top of that my daughter screamed her head off when she could taste just the slightest bit of cream.. I used this wonderful remedy a few times and could almost see an instant result. It was such a relief.
As this cream is hypoallergenic and completely natural i was able to leave it on during the feeds, unlike most other creams which have to be washed off prior to latching baby on to the breast.

Simply wash the breast after each feed and then cream it - or even cream inbetween feeds ... ...with greasy hands.
The cream is made from 100% pure lansinoh (Lanolin)

Advantages: soothing, no fussy ingredients - just lanolin, lives up to the promise Disadvantages: a bit of an investment (but well worth it)
Lansinoh promotes itself as 'the world's purest lanolin' and has been developped specifically for cracked and sore nipples. It claims to provide a moist environment which enables the healing process of cracked nipples and also creates a barrier for the raw nerve endings sometimes caused by breast feeding. This is one of those rare products that does live up to the hype and does exactly what it promises to. It is by far the best nipple cream that ... ...gave me a sample of Lansinoh and I ended up buying a tube from Mothercare.
Lansinoh is smooth and has a Vaseline like texture but much nicer (almost identical to the texture of Elizabeth Arden's 8 hour cream - hey, perhaps I will try it on my face!). It is a strange shade of green which is a little offputting but the smell is far less offensive than other brands and best of all you don't have to wipe it off before breast feeding so it makes the ...

...I could. I started using Lansinoh before and after each feed and within one day things were starting to look better and by day four there was no more cracks on soreness.
The reason this product is so much better than a lot of the others on the market is that its the only one (to my knowledge) that is safe to use before you feed, and you dont have to wash off before your little angel begins. Lansinoh Lanolin is the absolute best cream there is out there on the market, and I should know, I've tried them all! I had the worst case of cracked and bleeding nipples with my first baby and when my health visitor reommended Lansinoh, I was at first reluctant to try yet another cream. But once I had got the tube of Lansinoh and used it for the first time, i could have cried from relief as soon as I put it on, it felt like it was working. I have ... ...nipples. All my friends have used it and they love it as much as I do. I even use it on nappy rash and I put it on my lips as lip balm, it makes my lips really soft and so shiny! My husband uses it on his dry hands and feet. I can not rate this highly enough, it truly is a product that really does what it says on the box and products like this don't come along often, but when they do, they deserve praise. ...

Advantages: Works! Doesn't need to be washed off before feeding Disadvantages: Very expensive and also quite thick - but that's probably why it works
I originally had another brand, which came in a pre-packed hospital bag. I soon realised that was useless (you even needed to wash it off your breasts before feeding, which seems mental). I had cracked and bleeding nipples after a few weeks of breastfeeding and was in pain every time I tried to feed. I was recommended this by my midwife and was initially very sceptical given my experience with the first cream.
However, this worked like a charm, ... ...not only soothed my nipples but seemed to repair them (I know it sounds mad!) Within a couple of days I wasn't in any more pain. I went on to breastfeed for 13 months, and still use my tube for things like chapped lips and cracked heels!
The only drawback is that it is extremely expensive (nearly a tenner a tube) but it is so much better than other creams I think it still represents very good value for money. ...
