    I'm a frequent poster on several forums, I have 64 contacts in MSN, and believe it or not, I have a couple of real-life friends as well. Like many people, I use my computer to listen to music as well as ciaoing, and doing other bits and bobs, like satisfying my forum addictions, and er... chatting up sexy Scots (oh, that's a long story...). Several of my "contacts" from the sources mentioned, use a site called last.fm to track their listening.     I’ve always been a big music fan but once I hit my early 20s I found myself in a bit of a musical rut. Not a fan of the chart music thrust down my throat from the major record labels, but not really having lots of friends who shared my exact music taste, I would find that I was simply listening to the same artists over and over and it seemed like years since I’d had that joy that you get when you discover a new artist.     have recently found two new internet addictions lately. One is DooYoo of course, and the other is Last FM. If like me, you love listening to music while you are online, then I recommend you tune into Last FM and become a member. This isn't just any ordinary radio station, this is a site where you can personalise and create you own radio station to play music by artists you like.     If you're not into the latest musical style it can be difficult to get your head round new musical tastes. In life you find an artist, enjoy them, and support them; but you can quite often close yourself off to new music of a similar type or style. When I purchased my iPod I eagerly stacked up my new music player with my favourite stuff and loved it. Trouble being 6 months on and I'm bored of my music. I figured it might be time to buy some new music, but neither through download nor in CD form could I find anything I wanted to buy; I had effectively pulled myself out of the "music market" ... more

    Have you ever wondered how much music you actually listen to per week? Well now thanks to Last.fm, you can! Last.fm is a website based around music, if you love listening to music as much as I do then you'll love this website! The whole idea is that you can keep track of what songs you have listened to during the week and you find out how many times you have listened to your favourite singers/bands.     Last.FM is a social networking/Stastic site with a bit of a difference, you can also listen to a custumised radio, collect music stats and talk to people all around the world about the music you like and dislike. The site was founded in 2002 and in it's nine years of living reached out to nearly 40 Million users. I joined the site in January 2009 after being recommended by a friend and it's still one of the most visited sites I go on. I enjoy Last.FM because I think it has some very interesting concepts such as being able to see how other people's tastes are similar to yours, similar artists ... more

    Last FM is in my view the best website on the net!! ........except for Ciao of course!! Err.....anyway, The premise of the site is to build up a profile of your musical tastes and then to compare and contrast with other users. As you listen to more music the more accurate your information wil be. Ok. Lets start from the beginning.     Last.fm's been going for a good few years now, from back when it used to be called Audioscrobbler used by only a few, to now, in 2007, where it has thousands upon thousands of users. The basic idea is, you create a profile, download the client and set your music player up to submit song information every time you listen to music (unless you disable it). It is suitable for all platforms - Windows, Mac and Linux, although with Linux most media players already have the last.fm function in them, whereas with Windows, you have to download a plugin for each player.     I have been a member of Last.fm since the demise of audioscrobbler.com some time ago and although my music tastes have changed somewhat over the past few years Last.fm is still one of my favourite itunes plugins. In order to start using the service a plugin has to be downloaded from the last.fm website which works with your music player (itunes, Windows Media Player etc.) to record and store a record of the music that you listen to.
