Seeing as lastminute.com have recently announced they are making profits for the first time since their shares were floated on the stock market a couple of years ago, it seems like a good time to write a review.
I’ve been visiting the site for about three years now. When I first started using it, it was one of the only sites offering cut-price last minute holiday deals. Now they not only offer holidays, but flights, hotel rooms, restaurant bookings, ... ...site to explore. Just visit the site, click on the categories on the left hand side of the screen and follow your nose. However, you might have to be patient as the site can be frustratingly slow at times.

This is where we are mistaken. lastminute.com provides much more than just Travel related services.
I first became aware of this site whilst playing some of the games on Tombola. Lastminute.com is the sponsor of one of the games called “Zap”.

Last Minute.com as many of you may know is a website that allows you to book a variety of late offers from a range of hotels, flights, holidays, entertainment etc.. that may have otherwise have gone unbooked… but just how good are they? Do they really present “value for money” for the consumer? Last minute.com was founded by Martha Fox and Brent Hoberman about 2 years ago. Amidst much hype and anticipation Last Minute decided to ... ...380p, now plummeted to an all time low of 73p! With falling profits they have managed to “double their quarterly loss to £15.4 million” in 2000. So what went wrong, why is the company not able to sustain its profits? I first assumed that lastminute was primarily a flight booking site and did not use it. However, when I went looking for a good hotel in London I could afford I ended up - somehow - at the site and have used it regularly since.
How good their deals are in other areas I do not know, but for hotels in London they are excellent.
Go to the home page and click on the 'hotels' homepage. Then you can either do a search by entering London (or wherever) ... ...pages on, for example, 'London £50-£100'This is where I usually start. This section can run to 100 hotels in all categories and price ranges so there is usually something to find.
Hotels are listed nine to a page with a small photograph, a star rating, area and headline price. Click on more info link on any of these and you will get all the information you need - hotel, room and leisure facilities, details of restaurants and bars, highlights of ...

...very expensive. We then found Lastminute.com which doesn’t only deal with flights, in fact there is so much on the Home page it is a wonder we found the section for flights!
Homepage
Cerise pink is the bright colour that meets the eye, the name is in pink and the borders on the different sections are highlighted. There is a lovely picture of sea and sun, all I wanted, was to be transported.
There are sections on hot beach deals, last second hols, ... ...were offering £20 discount for lastminute.com customers. All we had to do was continue to the next stage and pay, it seemed a simple quite painless operation. The prices were better than we had found on other sites.
Problem
We should know nothing in this life is simple! Hubby decided to upgrade the car, and went back to do this, unknown to us the flights reverted to the original suggestion after their search and not the later one we had chosen. ...

I've used lastminute.com a few times in the past and recently made two more purchases through them. Until a couple of days ago I expected to come on here singing their praises but one experience has now made me slightly wary.
Firstly I've never tried using them for booking anything major like a holiday or flights so I can't say how they fare on that score. to be honest I think I'm a bit wary of doing that as if something goes wrong with that it ... ...coward or over-cynical but I like a little security and would pay for it.
But now and again it's nice to be able to treat me and the fella or kids to a trip out somewhere and not have to feel I'm blowing all the month's salary. Last year I used them to book theme park tickets. Now I've got two lads of 11 and 14 so I know all about spending stupid amounts of money at theme parks. In fact I don't think I've ever paid full price as I resent seeing ...

...To those who've never used lastminute.com before, a brief explanation of the way they work is in order. They are, essentially, a 'middle-man', providing you with special offers and deals from selected companies. As the website name suggests, they offer many 'last-minute' deals on things such as restaurant bookings, flights (within the UK and abroad) and theatre bookings. They also stock a great line in gifts.
Well, my last encounter with lastminute.com ... ...order does not come from lastminute.com directly, it comes from their supplier. So you have no option to specify methods of delivery - although there is usually a section in the product description providing delivery details.
As for the site itself - very nice, easily navigable, and with a very nice touch - namely, an on-line chat mode which connects you with a Customer Service representative! So if you're having problems, you can start up the chat ...

Everyone has heard of lastminute.com but how many people know they have an auction section? The items on offer vary from week but week but there is a definate chance of picking up a superb bargain.
The website is part of the main lastminute site. Just look for the auction link. Navigation is easy and as quick as any other on my far from top notch PC. There is a brief description of the item for auction, together with reserve price, bids already ... ...of these are fairly short term with hotels and airlines trying to clear unsold rooms/seats as the date approaches.
The bid procedure is straightforward. You log in and enter your bid. If you are subsequently outbid you will be advisd by email. When I last used this site there was no bid robot so you have to be on your toes. Credit card details or similar are required to confirm your seriousness. I've only ever used lastminute.com myself, and its brilliant for having a browse over different places you might want to visit and the sort of prices you'll be expected to pay.
I booked a holiday to Paris through lastminute.com, and for 2 adults, 4 nights, 4* hotel = £187pp. When we were at the hotel, we noticed the room we were in should cost €220 a night, which is when we realised how good our price was! In the price, our flight was included.
... ...holiday, and paid for it, lastminute.com will send e-tickets for you to print off. We were a bit unsure of how the tickets would work, but we went through the Help section of the site and it said to present them as you would any normal ticket. So, with printed e-tickets, we headed off to Birmingham International, and sure enough, when we checked in, the e-tickets were accepted without any questions, and we were given our boarding passes. lastminute.com enables people to book last minute deals on a range of products and services to hopefully find the best deal possible. However, it can also be used to book weeks or months in advance and has quite good deals on these offers too. They offer car hire, hotels, holidays, flights, spa days, theatre tickets, gift ideas etc. The website is very easy to use and each service/product provided has it own section on the website and you can use ... ...the preferred dates or times etc. This is very easy to use and the options that you've selected work well and load up in well under a minute (internet connection dependant of course). The homepage will show all of the latest deals and offers such as 2 for 1 on nights in a hotel and theatre tickets for Wicked, Grease etc from just £15.00. The website is full of bargains and sometimes I will just browse it for something to do and then find myself reaching ...

Seems like Last Minute are still up to their dodgy (but legal) practices.
Back in Dec 2002, just before Xmas, I ordered flowers for a friend's mother who's worsening MS meant that she didnt have very long left in this life. Flowers were one of the few things left which
she could enjoy and I chose her favourites - freesias.
I requested a delivery date, but specified that if that wasnt possible, just send them at the earliest opportunity.
They ... ...Until I returned from Xmas at my parents to find an email saying they couldnt make the date.
So I emailed back saying 'fine, just send them when you can', and went off on a New Year trip. By the time I got back (Jan 6th ish) there was still no response, and when I checked with my friend, no flowers had been delivered.
I put it down to basic error, but figured they'd refund me soon enough. In the meantime, my friends mum sadly passed away (RIP).

...told that I shouldn;t use lastminute.com to book flights because theyare unscrupulous. I was then informed by the airline after talking to a sympathetic person there, to my surpise that my ticket HAD NOT BEEN PAID FOR BY LASTMINUTE! Yes that is correct, even though the money had come out of my account 3 months ago, the airline had still not received the monies and had me on the system as a standby passenger! I was then told that since I was a stand ... ...refund on the ticket. I called lastminute and guess what they did? They hung up on me.
So much ofr customer service.
This saga has not ended yet, and honestly I can;t even see an end in sight. I just felt I should write this because I was unaware of the dodgy trade paractices that these websites undertake. Due to this experience I booked my replacement flights through a travel agent, who not only was friendly and polite was actually cheaper than ...

It was inevitable that the .com were going to come crashing down, as this stock was floated and went up considerably, then the doom period came in the stock market. The early promise that the stock had shown had gone. I don’t know the price of the share know, but it did leave me wondering the future of ... ...they will pay up.
Lastminute.com is a very good site for late bargains, and one worth looking at next time you feel doing something spontaneously. Lastminute.com is a site that simply matches late buyers, with last minute holidays, hence that is why the flights are cheap. They are some terrific offers waiting for you. ...
