Advantages Advantages Kids Learn By Repeitition; This Teaches By Repetition

    Disadvantages Disadvantages It's Very Repetitive

Those annoying fridge magnets that make up the alphabet have only ever been good for one thing: making rude words. As adults, as soon as we walk into a house that has kids' fridge magnets in the shape of letters, we immediately start rearranging them to make up naughty phrases. To avoid the wrath of the lady of the house, we try to incorporate the rude words into a random jumble of other letters so she won't spot them immediately and I once knew a friend, who was seeing the wife of another friend on the side, leave rude messages for her in the fridge letters, yet her husband failed to see the ... more

Advantages Advantages Fun, learning, English speaking voice

Disadvantages Disadvantages none unless you count significant repetitive play by toddler

Leapfrog must by now be renown for learning toys that are fun fun fun for children of all ages. I bought this toy for my toddler, then aged 2 with some Christmas money that he had been given. Now I originally thought £15 is a bit pricey but I had heard good things about the toy and bearing in mind baby daughter will grow into the toy I pursuaded myself to get it. Out the window went the doubt in my mind that I could quite happily sing the alphabet and letters to my son myself - good job too, now his speech is quite fluent he says "don't sing mummmmmy"! Charming. Good job I bought the gadget ... more

Advantages Advantages Teaches the alphabet and daughter loves playing with it

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't teach letter names like in nursery

This was purchased for my daughter at Christmas when she was two years old, she took a little interest in the ABC song and then it was put to one side and forgotten about. Now she is learning about her letters at nursery she has suddenly taken an interest in it and really likes the toy although I must admit I have reservations. The toy was about £15 when it was bought but this was over a year ago and it now seems that it has been updated a little and probably wouldn't be found in main shops. The toy is magnetic so that the child can play with it at the fridge but my daughter prefers to play ... more

Advantages Advantages Teaches sounds, aids reading/writing, strong and sturdy

Disadvantages Disadvantages The songs are really catchy and stick in your head all day

The "Fridge Phonics" toy is an educational toy made my Leapfrog. "Phonics" are taught in many schools across the UK these days. Instead of teaching the alphabet A to Z, the phonics (the sounds each letter makes) are taught. The first group of sounds to be taught are S A T I P N. This is because, these 6 letters make up more simple 3 lettered words than any other in the alphabet. There are also double sounds, such as oa, ai, sh, th etc. Fridge Phonics consists of a small main unit and 26 magnetic letters, which are all upper case. The main unit is battery operated and takes 3 size AA batteries ... more

    Advantages Advantages English accent

Disadvantages Disadvantages Listening to the alphabet over and over again

When my daughter was 18 months old, my partner and me struggled to think of what to get the little one for Christmas so she got loads of little things for Christmas. This was one of the things we got her and it is still being used three years later. You get 1 main unit which is about 9.5 x 10.5 cm and about 3.5 cm deep. You also get 26 magnets one of each letter of the alphabet. Each letter is on the same size rectangle with one curved edge. All the vowels are red coloured and the rest are either are blue, yellow or green. All of it is magnetic, unit and letters, so it can go on your fridge or ... more

Advantages Advantages Fun and easy way to learn the alphabet.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages .........................................................................

Yes! Another great toy by Leap Frog, but this time one for the kitchen, or anywhere else you may want to take it for that matter. My daughter has a habbit of following me everywhere I go, and with her always comes some sort of toy to play with. Having a very small kitchen, its always quite hard to move around when shes on the floor with her toys, so I was so greatful when I fell across the Fridge Phonics by Leap Frog. Fridge Phonics is a magnetic letter set which helps children to learn there alphabet through letter names and sounds. Fridge Phonics cotains 1 base unit and 26 letters ( 1 of ... more

Advantages Advantages Great teaching tool, fun for your child

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only upper case letters

This unit is amazing, we've had it 3 days and already our 2 ½ year old recognises 5 letters from the alphabet. A little about the unit. It is 4" x 4" with a "shaped" space at the top where the letters are placed. At the bottom right is the switch that turns the unit on; this has two settings for volume, which are quiet & loud. In the middle at the bottom is a musical note button, when this is pressed the unit will play the alphabet song. The unit and the letters will go onto a metal surface, as they are magnetic. The unit itself also has "keyholes" on the back that can be mounted on screws on ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic Way to Learn the Alphabet

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rather annoying tune which accompanies each letter

We bought our daughter this for Christmas 3 months before her second birthday ....... she loved it. We were staying with family and by the end of Christmas day everyone new the tune which accompanied each and every letter ....... the adults were getting slightly aggrivated by its repititious tune but our daughter had already picked a number of the letters and there sounds (phonics plays a big part in this product). She is now 2 and a half and can say her alphabet accompanied by that fantastically annoying tune perfectly. Despite THAT tune it was certainly one of the best gifts we've bought her ... more

Advantages Advantages Totally English Speaking (no Zeee's)

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No disadvantages

This is a wonderful little toy from "Leapfrog" which helps to teach the alphabet in full english. I tend to get fed up with hearing the "zeee's" in talking toys, so it is a pleasure to hear the standard "Zed". This toy is wildly available from most toy shops. It is colourful and sings the alphabet when pressed. It has interchanging letters so that you can hear the sound of each letter seperately. It has an "off" switch and two sound levels. It takes 3 x AAA Batteries which come with the unit and they are easy to replace using a Phillips Screwdriver. The unit its self is approx 3" x 3.5" and ... more

Advantages Advantages Good for teaching children the alphabet/letters

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be annoying for adults

I bought this for my 2 yr old twin niece & nephew and they absolutely loved it. Can be attached tp fridge but they carried it around for ages pressing the letters to hear the rhyme. Very repetitive rhyme for each letter which can be annoying for adults but helps them learn te letters and within hours they knew quite a few letters which I thought was amazing for their age. Will definitely be buying my daughter one when she's old enough (this xmas !!) Also very colourful and says each letter both ways ie adult and child (phonic sounding) ways. Also has a music button which plays the alphabet ... more
