    5 Stars What a uni! 15/11/2006

Advantages Advantages Great friendly city, cheap living, good reputation, excellent computer facilities

Disadvantages Disadvantages Traffic, not particularly cheap union

I'm currently a second year student at the University of Leeds and I 100% recommend it!! COMPUTING FACILITIES **************************** I would say that one of the strengths of Leeds University is its number of computer clusters. It has absolutely loads! There are 29 clusters currently provided by ISS (the university's computer network people) with over 1600 computers between them. I am currently sat in a rather large cluster with many, many computers free. ISS also provide screens telling you where computers are free, if the cluster of your first choice is full; so you can pretty much ... more

    Advantages Advantages Excellent Atmosphere

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many students and not enough facilities

As a current second year student at Leeds University i thought i would share my opinions and experiences of this university with you. Leeds is now the most popular choice for undergraduates and has the largest number of undergraduate applications in the UK. With over 23,000 undergraduates alone, Leeds is an excellent place to study. When deciding on which university to attend I had certain things I was looking for and so I thought I’d write this opinion based on these areas. ACCOMODATION Leeds university has a wide range of halls of residence including catered and self catered. I stayed in ... more

    5 Stars GO Leeds 06/09/2002
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Reputation, quality of facilities, sports and nightlife

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive accommodation

I have been a student at Leeds University for 5 years now, and have experienced it both as an undergraduate and as a postgraduate student. So, I should have a good feel for the place by now!! I took my degree in Geophysics in the Earth Sciences Department, and then stayed on to do a PhD working on volcanic earthquakes. Leeds University is one of the old red brick Universities, which received investment from the local textile industry to help it expand in the early years. Leeds University has an excellent reputation and over 6000 students graduate from the university every year. The Chancellor ... more

Advantages Advantages friendly, cheap, good facilities

    Disadvantages Disadvantages crime

I've just finished my second year at Leeds uni so it must be about time to share my experiences with you, my adoring public, well maybe. I'm currently studying energy engineering, don't bother asking what it is as I don't really know myself, maybe I should sort that out soon... Anyway, my building is probably the worst on campus, being rather dark and cold, but most of the others, especially the newer ones such as the health science building are all decorated very nicely and nearly make you want to go to lecures. The university has about a million libraries, the ones that I go in all seem to ... more

Advantages Advantages A fantastic, fun place to be

Disadvantages Disadvantages You have to leave when you finish your course!

While browsing through Ciao, I noticed that no one had given their opinion on the University of Leeds for a while so I thought I would share mine with you. I began my study at Leeds in October 1990 (yes, that long ago!) but I'm sure it hasn't changed much and I would imagine it's only changed for the better. When we arrived (I was lucky enough to have a friend from school on the same course) we quickly found our accomodation began to get acclimatised after being welcomed and given lots of information on what lay ahead for us. Although I was initially in a university flat (didn't get on with ... more

I've been studying in Leeds for almost 2 years now, doing a degree in Medical Sciences. Leeds, the City Leeds has the best of everything, great restaurants, bars, clubs and shops! The cheapest nights are the ones us students enjoy the most, so here’s a quick list of a few of the cheapest bars and clubs in Leeds: - The Dry Dock - a bar that’s in a canal barge in the middle of a dual carriageway! It’s a yellow card pub, just opposite the MET and offers dirt cheap drinks if you purchase a yellow card (which costs a quid and lasts a year)! It’s open until 1am and is generally busy every night of ... more

Advantages Advantages small, always someone u know about, good lecturers and courses

Disadvantages Disadvantages too small, poor library resources, food and student union.

Trinity and all saints universities, one of the smallest in the country, it is part of the main Leeds university and hence the degree is awarded from there. Most of my friends came to trinity because a) they couldnt getin to Leeds uni, or b) they didnt offer the course they wanted at leeds. Basically tasc (trintiy and all saints college) is set in a nice picturesque part of Leeds, but alas no peace it is on the flight path for Leeds Bradford airport, makes it interesting in halls until you get used to it! The facilities are quite poor, the library isn't well stocked most of the books are ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent university, everyting you'll ever need!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Obviously any big city has a high crime rate, so be careful!!! Also, the large campus can be off-putting at first.

Okay, I'm here now and I should expand on my enthusiastic but extremely vague opinion!!! The University of Leeds is one of the biggest and most popular in the country, with lots of students!! (I don't know the exact number but I know the total number of students in the city, from the University and the Metropolitan University, and other smaller higher education colleges goes well into the tens of thousands, so that's a lot of students!!), and after only a few weeks here (I'm coming up to the end of week 7, so including freshers' week that makes it nearly 8 weeks) I can see why. Academically ... more

Advantages Advantages Good courses and location

    Disadvantages Disadvantages no swimming pool

When I made the choice to go to Leeds University it was the pin in the book method which I used and now I thank that pin and all it has done for me. Leeds Universty is an excellent place to do your degree. The courses are all well structured and with a lot of scope to go into the field of your choice. I was a Biology student there Graduating last year but still live on its doorstep. The union is a good place with a great bar and friendly atmosphere. The whole of Leeds is a Student city, during the summer the city centre, university (which is walking distance from the centre)and the student ... more

Advantages Advantages A great city and nightlife, it's a good university too!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't think of any!

I've just spent my first year at Leeds uni and i've had a great time so far. I was put into accomadation at Boddington Halls, at first i was very disappointed as i knew that it was a long way out from the university campus but now i realise just how lucky i was! Being at Bod with a student population of around 1200 meant that these halls had a community spirit like nowhere else. The social scene there was great with the highlight of the year being the all night ball! There were also other partys throughout the year as well as bod bar being the regular spot for pub quizs and kareoke. Boddington ... more
