University of Leicester 2007

AdvantagesFriendly people, laid back attitude, academic, social scene

Disadvantagesdistance of university to halls, the locals

"...the anual varsity matches between Leicester univerity and the polytechnic De Montfort. These matches are great to go to as the rivalry is very intense, and often amusing. Leicester student's union is very popular with its students and recently it has seen acts such as the Arctic Monkeys perform. The two big union nights are the cheese infested Red Leicester which plays a huge range of songs from the 90's, as well as your indie and drum and bass ..." Down memory lane - work, what work??!!

AdvantagesFantastic social life within halls, friendly small campus

Disadvantagescan't think of any, but I'm biased!!

"I graduated from Leicester University in 1996, a while ago now, but this was my experience: I initially visited a handful of universities and remember instantly 'knowing' that Leicester was for me, quite simply because I felt comfortable there. Other big city universities felt 'edgier' and intimidating to me, although I know probably the greater majority of people would find them appealing. I just remember sitting in the coffee shop chomping on ..." Read review

The best university in the world

Advantagesnone

Disadvantagesnone

"...in my finaly year at leicester to study a BA in archaeology, and i am having the time of my life. The university is placed next to Victoria park and it is away from the city centre, but only 10mins walking distance. The Union is very good, these is always something happening. The staff are pretty helpful too. The accommodation is good, although I have personally only stayed in the self-catered accommodation. The city since I arrived three years ..." Read review

A great university, with a brill social life.

AdvantagesThe city. Good reputation.

DisadvantagesThe library could be better equipped.

"I graduated from Leicester in 1998, studying English and went on to do a PGCE there. I still live in Leicester now - so it can't be all that bad. I have to say that all the university reviews are bound to be really biased, as everyone who writes them is bound to be a fan of a particular uni, and unless they have done multiple degrees, is likely to know only one really well. Unfortunately, I am no exception. I went to Leicester as the result ..." Read review

"I graduated from Leicester University just over a year ago after completing a four year physics course. I may have complained about the course a fair bit whilst there but now I don't regret a thing. I may be biased, but I cannot think of anywhere else that I would rather have spent my undergraduate years. I picked Leicester for its reputation in my chosen field of study as well as its location, pretty easy to get to from anywhere in the UK and vice ..." Read review

What a Choice!!!!

AdvantagesSuperb area and great university. Centre of England so easy access to just about any other city

DisadvantagesYou may just have to leave home!!

"Choosing to study at Leicester University was definately one of my greatest decisions ever. I was unsure of where to go, and even whether i wanted to go, i went to 6 universities in all and Leicester stood out like a Ferrari in a fleet of Fiestas. The Halls of residence are set in lovely, peaceful surroundings and are not a rediculous length away from the university, and if you don't want to walk there is a superb bus route catering to your needs. ..." From Redbrick to Golddust!

AdvantagesCompact university campus

DisadvantagesAcommodation and halls of residence too far away

"...I attended in the 50's Leicester University has blossomed into the jewel-in-the-crown of academic institutions. Pioneers in engineering, astronomy and education this university now leads the way in the major academic disciplines. The city, itself, has grown from the one-coffe-bar dump of my youth into a thriving bustling urban location. The students have always played an important role in the day-to-day life of the city. Once the hated hordes who played ..." Read review

Leicester's Social Life

AdvantagesGreat atmos, reasonably priced accomodation

DisadvantagesLack of decent nightclubs

"Three years at Leicester has flown by (mostly in a haze of beers!). I'm certainly going to miss the place when I enter the 'real world' this summer. As a university town, Leicester is ideal. Large enough to offer lots to do, yet retaining a small-town atmosphere (You'll always bump into friends wherever you go). On the social front (and lets face it that's our main concern. Education? Nah!), Leicester will keep you occupied; from its array of new, ..." Read review

Dont get ill

AdvantagesAmazing halls

DisadvantagesOld lecture theatres.

"...went to the University of Leicester last year. I studied Beng Electronic and Electrical Engineering. The Gilbert Murray hall was my hall of resisdence. This hall was one of the last to be part of the university's upgrade program. This didn't bother me however as the hall was a no smoking hall, a good idea if you ever visit villiers hall. The hall is also very near the university's excellent sports facilities. Including running track, gym and most ..." Read review

Leave my opinions

AdvantagesIn a nice city, good campus facilities

DisadvantagesNot all accommodations have Internet broadband services at moment

"...Leicester. I chose University of Leicester as its good research and teaching reputation. It is now ranked in the UK's top twenty universities. It is famous for researching on Engineering, Physics, Medical and Genetics. I like this university as well as the Leicester city. It locates in the middle of England and easy to travel to London, Birmingham and Nottingham. The university is near city center. I normally spend 20 minutes walk through New Walk ..." Read review

Better and better

AdvantagesGood courses, good student life

DisadvantagesBad food in halls

"I graduated from Leicester 4 years ago and I'm still there (Leicester not the uni). The 3 years I spent at Leicester Uni were the best of my life. I studied Physcology and although I didn't pick the uni becuase of its reputation as a centre of excellence for this course, it quickly became aparent that it stood up superbly to this accolade. 1st year and all people who wanted to get into hall got into hall (doesn't happen in a lot of places). I ..." Read review

Cheese is not the only good thing in Leicester!

AdvantagesQuality through and through

DisadvantagesLeave your car at home!

"...twice I finally settled on Leicester to study archaeology and was the best decsion I could have made. The university is excellently postioned just outside of the city centre and is surrounded by the beautifully green Victoria Park, which was once the Racecourse many many years ago. The campus is compact and has a friendly atmosphere, and has a variety of buildings, the architecturally acclaimed Engineering building, the old asylum now the univeristy ..." Read review

What A University

AdvantagesNice environment

DisadvantagesI coundn't think of one

"I graduated from University Of leicester in 1997. Since then, whenever I look back into my life in that univeristy, it brings me back the good memory. At present I am doing my Master in University Of Strathclyde. If I have to make a comparison, I would say that Univeristy Of Leicester is the best University that I have been. Talking about the environment, the facilities and the academic standards, University Of Leicester has it all. The students there ..." Read review

Advantageshmmm....close to each other.....so.when you drop.there will always somebody to hold you up..

Disadvantageswell.....you come here and see.

"...much i kew about the leicester uni pub anyway..its limited.small.what do you expect then.the bars are not that happening even though sometimes, they might invite some good band for a thrilling gigs......well the SU actually has four main bars. The Redfearn is probably the most important. It has recently had a 0.5 million pound refurbishment and is rather spangly. It's quite pubby in style and plays a range of music. There is a DJ box for functions. Elements ..." Read review

Leicester University The Place To Be

AdvantagesGood nite life, good economics dept

Disadvantagescrap halls

"...cheaper price. The night life in Leicester is good, whatever you are into, drum n bass, garage, hard house, hip hop (Im stil recovering from Bubble love at the university!), its all there. What's more there are a large amount of pubs and bars in town which include some quite original ones as well as your run of the mill chains. Well, thats my little summary, hope it was of some use.
