Advantages Advantages Friendly people, laid back attitude, academic, social scene

Disadvantages Disadvantages distance of university to halls, the locals

I have just finished my 'freshers' year at the university of Leicester; and i have to say it has been the best year of my life. The university campus is set about a mile or so out of town, next to Victoria Park and the nearby shopping area of Queen Road. I would say it is a medium sized campus which makes it extremely easy to find your place and feel comfortable when you first start. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from one side of the campus to the other. Another plus to the size is that you always see familiar faces. The student population is varied, with quite a lot of international ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic social life within halls, friendly small campus

Disadvantages Disadvantages can't think of any, but I'm biased!!

I graduated from Leicester University in 1996, a while ago now, but this was my experience: I initially visited a handful of universities and remember instantly 'knowing' that Leicester was for me, quite simply because I felt comfortable there. Other big city universities felt 'edgier' and intimidating to me, although I know probably the greater majority of people would find them appealing. I just remember sitting in the coffee shop chomping on a flapjack on that first Wednesday afternoon visit thinking that the people seemed 'normal'! I stayed in Villiers Hall in a shared room in my first ... more

I am currently in my finaly year at leicester to study a BA in archaeology, and i am having the time of my life. The university is placed next to Victoria park and it is away from the city centre, but only 10mins walking distance. The Union is very good, these is always something happening. The staff are pretty helpful too. The accommodation is good, although I have personally only stayed in the self-catered accommodation. The city since I arrived three years ago has changed, loads of cool cafe bars have opened up. The nightlife is pretty good at the uni and also in the city, you can usually ... more

Advantages Advantages The city. Good reputation.

Disadvantages Disadvantages The library could be better equipped.

I graduated from Leicester in 1998, studying English and went on to do a PGCE there. I still live in Leicester now - so it can't be all that bad. I have to say that all the university reviews are bound to be really biased, as everyone who writes them is bound to be a fan of a particular uni, and unless they have done multiple degrees, is likely to know only one really well. Unfortunately, I am no exception. I went to Leicester as the result of the fickle hand of fate, rather than a well-worked out decision, but I am very glad I came here. Leicester is a very multicultural place, with a large ... more

I graduated from Leicester University just over a year ago after completing a four year physics course. I may have complained about the course a fair bit whilst there but now I don't regret a thing. I may be biased, but I cannot think of anywhere else that I would rather have spent my undergraduate years. I picked Leicester for its reputation in my chosen field of study as well as its location, pretty easy to get to from anywhere in the UK and vice versa. On the whole the people are friendly, the staff helpful and although the city isn't the most beautiful looking place in the world it still ... more

Advantages Advantages Superb area and great university. Centre of England so easy access to just about any other city

Disadvantages Disadvantages You may just have to leave home!!

Choosing to study at Leicester University was definately one of my greatest decisions ever. I was unsure of where to go, and even whether i wanted to go, i went to 6 universities in all and Leicester stood out like a Ferrari in a fleet of Fiestas. The Halls of residence are set in lovely, peaceful surroundings and are not a rediculous length away from the university, and if you don't want to walk there is a superb bus route catering to your needs. The town has plenty of shops and restaurants and more importantly for the budding student plenty of pubs, bars and clubs to visit. You als have the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Compact university campus

Disadvantages Disadvantages Acommodation and halls of residence too far away

From the small redbrick university that I attended in the 50's Leicester University has blossomed into the jewel-in-the-crown of academic institutions. Pioneers in engineering, astronomy and education this university now leads the way in the major academic disciplines. The city, itself, has grown from the one-coffe-bar dump of my youth into a thriving bustling urban location. The students have always played an important role in the day-to-day life of the city. Once the hated hordes who played unpardonable pranks on the residents on Rag Day, the academic aspirants are now recognised as an ... more

Advantages Advantages Great atmos, reasonably priced accomodation

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of decent nightclubs

Three years at Leicester has flown by (mostly in a haze of beers!). I'm certainly going to miss the place when I enter the 'real world' this summer. As a university town, Leicester is ideal. Large enough to offer lots to do, yet retaining a small-town atmosphere (You'll always bump into friends wherever you go). On the social front (and lets face it that's our main concern. Education? Nah!), Leicester will keep you occupied; from its array of new, snazzy bars, to a range of popular (and often v. cheesy) nights at the Union. Admittedly, the club scene is pretty low-key, but this is the only ... more

    Advantages Advantages Amazing halls

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Old lecture theatres.

I went to the University of Leicester last year. I studied Beng Electronic and Electrical Engineering. The Gilbert Murray hall was my hall of resisdence. This hall was one of the last to be part of the university's upgrade program. This didn't bother me however as the hall was a no smoking hall, a good idea if you ever visit villiers hall. The hall is also very near the university's excellent sports facilities. Including running track, gym and most importantly the astro turf football pitches. The Engineering department expects a lot from it's students. There are approximately 26 hours per week ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not all accommodations have Internet broadband services at moment

I just finished my one year Master course in University of Leicester. I chose University of Leicester as its good research and teaching reputation. It is now ranked in the UK's top twenty universities. It is famous for researching on Engineering, Physics, Medical and Genetics. I like this university as well as the Leicester city. It locates in the middle of England and easy to travel to London, Birmingham and Nottingham. The university is near city center. I normally spend 20 minutes walk through New Walk to city center. It always makes me feel relaxed The Leicester city is famous for its ... more
