    Advantages Advantages A lovely book containing letters Tolkien wrote to his own children

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Mini Book does not contain all the letters

    FATHER CHRISTMAS LETTERS - J.R.R. TOLKIEN Before I get on to the review, please let me apologise, this review is not an audio book as suggested by Ciao, but a physical book. Ciao, in their wisdom, required me to post my review here. The Book This rather sweet little book was purchased by me, in the run up to Christmas, for my eight year old daughter. Although she loves the books that all eight year olds enjoy, Monster High, and Jaqueline Wilson, I do like to broaden her horizons with classic literature (see my review about A Midsummer Nights Dream for Children).     Advantages Advantages wonderful cute story, very funny in places thanks to polar bear!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages older words used sometimes, may be confusing for young readers

    Please note this review is actually of the physical book, not the audiobook, sorry but there is no physical book option on Ciao! Letters to Father Christmas was both very cute and yet also very serious. I loved the passion that Tolkien obviously put into these letters to make his children happy but you can also see the sadness in the writing every time one of the children got too old to believe in the jolly old man writing the letters.The tales that come from Father Christmas are brilliant, especially those involving North Polar Bears accidents… Polar bears little interruptions in the letters ... more
