...a printer…… it is the Lexmark X1150 all in one Printer/copier/Scanner with a fax facility thrown in, What more could one ask for? I had seen them around for almost a year at between £59-£70 seemed too good to be true, at such an unbelievable price too.
My family had given me Argos vouchers for Birthday and Christmas last year, as they knew I was after one of these mean machines, I spotted this model in Argos last year at £59 99.
Just after Christmas ... ...had a parallel port, the Lexmark X1150 needs a USB port.
Oh dear oh dear, so back I go to Argos, after much deliberating an soul searching, (and to cut a long story shorter) I decided to put £10 toward the last few vouchers I had left, and treat myself to a “Belkin 2 port card” which has 2 USB ports, (as you probably have already gathered) at £24 99 this did actually push the price of my printer up somewhat, but most computers now come with USB ...

The Lexmark X1150, is an all in one, colour printer, scanner, copier and fax. Which from now on, I'll refer to as an A.I.O. With the A.I.O. comes an instruction sheet, ( in block illustrations ), power connection, ink cartridges, and installation disc's. For those of you that don't know by now, Lexmark do not supply the U.S.B. cable. This is quite naughty of Lexmark, as it would cost them ... ...day ?. Shame on you Lexmark for that. Luckily most P.C. accessory shops supply the required Lexmark cable, for about £5.99.
After connecting the A.I.O. up, including ink and paper, to the P.C., it's time to insert the install disc. You are given 3 disc's, windows, mackintosh, and document (user guide). ...Linux 9 or Fedora. Lexmark are not alone in leaving Linux users unsupported. Sharing over a LAN in a purely 98SE/ME environment is easy BUT the driver's don't seem happy on the machines that are accessing the remote printer. I found myself often having to delete and reinstall on the remote machines to get remote printing working once more. Installing on a stand-alone XP-PRO system is easy and sharing it over a LAN is fine where all systems run XP-PRO.
... ...XP-PRO system with other systems on the LAN running Win ME etc is a real bitch but is possible...... Here's how. First, install it on the XP-Pro machine it will be connected to normally and enable sharing. Now disconnect it and carry it to each WinME etc machine (yes, this is a real pain!), connect it and install it as a local printer. Do this for each system in turn. The Lexmark X1150 is the complete all-in-one printer, scanner, photocopier (both colour and black & white) and fax machine.
While you may be thinking this product would be very expensive, it is certainly not. It is very affordable at £59.99 and you can get it from a wide range of online retailers and mail order catalogues.

You can pay well over £80 for even the most basic of printers so I was so happy when I found a printer/scanner and copier all in one.
Printer: ... ...but you also get a Lexmark Centre. The centre allows you to do a number of tasks without having to press a button on the printer.
You can scan in documents and then select different parts of the documents to printer. You can inlarge them or make them smaller. Change the colour and make a copy of them and even save your scans.

Upon discovering that replacement cartridges for my old printer woul have set me back almost £100, and as my scanner was beginning to flake out, I figured I'd kill the two birds with one stone. I paid about £50 for the X-1150, and now I know why.
On anything but super-low-quality printing takes so long that it's almost quicker to pop to your local copy shop and get them to do it. To add insult to injury, even on supposed "high quality" the printouts ... ...solid colour are liable to result in ink splatters all over the place. Text output is passable, but if you're looking to print out photos you should look elsewhere.
So, how about the scanner? Sadly that fares just as badly as the printer. It's far from fast (although it's also not the slowest), and the resulting images suffer from muted colours, poorly defined edges, and end up looking like a bad passport photo.

The Lexmark All in one defiantly looks sleek. It is slightly larger in length and width than a normal printer to accommodate the scanner, but I managed to squeeze it underneath my desk on a shelf. The top part of the printer lifts up to reveal the scanner. The paper measurements are etched in and hard to see, so you have to find and remember which corner is the top. So we all know that the object of selling any printer (or printer combo) is to suck you in to the ink cartridge game - especially if you are heavy on the colour printing...but...
...this really is quite a little gem for the price for the private punter with low to medium quantity print requirements.
The print quality is very good on "best" ( I couldn't see any difference in the laser printer at work) and there are three other lower grade (but less ... ...to run off straightforward word documents the "quickprint" setting is perfectly adequate and surprisingly fast, producing reasonably crisp letters with little or no "seepage" .
If you have left your speakers on do not be alarmed by the default voice that tells you "Printing started" (but you can turn it off). It also tells you "Printing complete" at the end of any run which can be useful if you have other things to be getting on with.

I was browsing through some ciao reviews a month ago looking for info on which printer would be best for me. I did not require perfect image print outs as the printer is only to be used for the occasional letter, print out (draft quality text) and the odd photo print out of my beautiful 10 week old bundle of joy.
I couldn't believe it when I saw the X1150 listed at £59.99 with all the functions it offers. I was sceptical. Surely a the low cost would ... ...to other printers in the same price region and without scanner copier etc the quality compares favourably. If you need a printer for work purposes and need crystal clear photo images I would not receommend this but for use in your home office I would say go for it.

I have always had EPSON printers, have gone through 4 in under 2 years. Because you can buy cheap cartridges I had stuck with them. However, when my last one packed in after 6 months, I went to look around at other makes.
After a couple of days I came home with the X1150, at a discount price of £60.00 i was pleased. (£59.95 from Comet - £64.95 from TESCO)
The reason why I bought it was that it had a scanner and copier included in the same machine..... ... ...around to the local shop and pay 10p for a black and white photocopy or do them at work... this little gem runs off copies in colour or black for me.
My old scanner was a seperate piece of hardware and involved more cables and another plug. I now have my scanner in the printer and it works wonderfully.
You have a choice when you scan of; colour or black, and then different dpi's depending on what you are doing with it. You just place your paper ...

...room on my desk. The Lexmark 1150 was very competitively priced and looks quite smart so I decided it was the one for me! It was easy to set up, apart from not having a USB cable included with it (luckily I was able to use the one from my old printer). The print quality is good and the scanning and copying functions are easy to use and images are of good quality.
The major drawback I have found is the price of the replacement cartridges, even if ... ...rather expensive. Lexmark themselves sell two black and two colour cartridges that fit this model - one of each is termed for 'moderate use', and although they are cheaper they don't last as long. As a result of the cartridge expense (having 5 children who all regularly print out homework etc), the Lexmark is rarely used except to scan and copy as I have been given a printer (which came as part of PC package bought by a relative) which uses very ...

...length if used properly. replacement lexmark cartiridges are easy to come by and are no more expensive than HP, espon etc branded ones. and there's always the cheap option by getting shops own than branded! They're also extreemly easy to change and the instructions are on the machine as well as in the manual, so even if you lose the manual you'll be ok. the copy function is very useful if you have important documents that you need copies of in a ... ...is done pretty speedy. you can increase the quality by going into the menu systems but i prefer to use the buttons on the top of the machine as it's quicker.
durability: good so far. had this combi for about 8 months now and it's still looking and working as good now as it did then. even survived with silly amounts of dust and muck from building work being done on the house! [without having to run a cartridge clean!!] so it's pretty tough. The paper ...

If you need a good quality printer, a high resolution scanner and a photo copier as well, you could be looking at spending over £400. Not to mention the space it would all take up.
The X1150 is not much bigger than a regular printer and at less than £70 is less than a quater of the price of buying the whole bundle seperately.
This all in one machine connects to your pc or mac by USB, and is compatible with Windows98/ME/2000/XP and Mac OS 9.x, X
... ...1200dpi) as is the scan quality( 600 by 1200 dpi, and up to 48 bit scan depth). The copy rate is not as fast as a real toner copier, 14cpm black and white and 8cpm colour, compared to toner copiers which can manage up to 69cpm, and it does work out more expensive per copy, as the ink cartridges are quite dear and there are very few compatible cartridges on the market.
