Re-written and updated ....... It’s not often that I can be heard singing the praises of my local council, but in one area they excel. We are very lucky in having one of most efficient and modern library departments I’ve come across. Not only do the main towns have big branch libraries, but also the larger villages have small libraries with convenient opening hours and a small fleet of mobile libraries serves the most rural parts of the district. Hmmmmmm, not quite sure on how to do this but I would just like to write a review on using your local library services. I was a little surprised as to the area that it was in, but hey ho that is Ciao for you as they put it there supposedly! But anyway, back to the subject in mind. How do I use the library service? Libraries are great places as there are so much on offer and it is more than borrowing books. My little library as so much going on I am amazed that the different types of activiteis for all age groups. There is Baby Bounce and Rhyme Time for the babies and toddlers where they have a volunteer who comes in and sings nursery rhymes and stories.Also this is a good way for young mums to meet other mums. Reading Group where each month they discuss what the book is all about and what they thought about it. Having worked in a library I can tell you all about the great services available! Firstly you'll need to obtain a library card. These are free but you need to able to provide two forms of ID, one of which must hvae a photograph of you on it. Most libraries not only stock books but have videos, CD's, DVD's, computer games, and talking books on both tape and CD. The books are all free to take out and are issued for 3 weeks at a time. You can then renew them either online, over the phone or at a library in person. They can be renewed up to 3 times without being brought back to the library. After ... more

Since I have been on the internet I havent been reading many books. Since I used to borrow these books from the local library it means that my visits to the library have also stopped. Last week instead of passing the library I thought that I would pop in. What a change. Our local library is a listed building. It used to be the old primary school. Lately they have done it out and now have electronic doors instead of the push open ones. As this had changed I wondered what else had changed in the library itself. i love my local library and so do my children .when i take my children to the library they love it and always come out with arms full of books .At my local library you can get up to 8 books at a time on 1 library it is the same for childrens books if you cannot find what you are looking for they can get it from other librarys but there is a small charge of 50 pence a book but you can get it delivered to your house.Its so easyto join the library all you do is fill in a form with your name and address and take it to your local library and a bill with your name and adress and you have joined you ... more

Whats on offer at your local library... its not just books you know, you can rent a DVD or Video and usually have it for a week not just over night. They have internet access, in School holidays they usually have activerties to keep the kids amused for hours. After a few visits the librarian gets to know you and will recommend books to you, you can order the latest book by your favorite author and its with you before you know it.
