Years ago I found Linda McCartney sausages, but they weren't these. They came in a box of 8 and smaller then suddenly these big sausages were all we could find. I always thought and still do that it's a shame that the smaller ones don't seem to exist anymore - why does food always increase in size. These sausages come 6 in a box and each sausage is 50g which is quite big and filling. They can be cooked just like meat sausages - grilled, fried, in the oven or barbecued although on the box it doesn't mention fried. I tend to grill or oven cook them, it says on the box to grill 2 sausages on ... more

/Me gets a large hammer... ************************** Right, from the start.....I shall get a very large flagpole and nail my colours to it. I am a veggie. Have been since I was 11. At that tender age my Mother took me into a high street takeaway with a pic of a cow on the wall and the proud maxim underneath "All our burgers are made from 100% Irish beef" enlightenment dawned and lo, a veggie was born. So have I ever tasted 'real sausages'? Yes I have, in fact when I was a carnivore, they were my favourite form of meat. I used to put them on fresh white bread (the brand was Mr. Brennans for ... more

    Advantages Advantages Tasty, cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages None, except for Rottweilers

I don’t know what we did before Linda McCartney. She has made my life a lot easier. Let me explain … We decided to go vegetarian after we got married in 1986. We had both always fancied giving up meat, for various reasons. One was animal welfare, the other was plain fussiness. Neither of us like fancy food – stuff dripping in sauces or wrapped in things. We thought vegetarian food would be simple and wholesome. Ha! We were quickly to discover that most restaurants believe all vegetarians live on cheese, cheese and more cheese. They also seem to think that everything should be ... more

Advantages Advantages A very tasty meal

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None at all.

The late Linda McCartney was nothing short of passionate in her beliefs, Linda herself a long time vegetarian actively encouraged her husband Paul McCartney to embrace and take on her strong beliefs. Sadly Linda is no longer with us but her range of vegetarian food lives on and only a few weeks ago Paul gave the Vegetarian Society the go ahead to make the most of her recipes in some cooking classes that they are about to introduce. The Linda McCartney vegetarian food range has undergone yet another revamp on the packaging front, the last major revamp was only just two years ago. I think that ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, nutritious, ubiquitous, veggy, vegan.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not exceedingly flavourful but O.K.

What can any one say about sausages that hasn't been said before and will it alter the course of the heavenly bodies, putting the human race back on track; who knows? What Moses, Darwin or Buddha would have said, I don't know. Tomorrow the sun will rise on the seemingly infinite parade of species in this hemisphere, myself included, and many of us will engage in primitive survival routines necessary if we wish to continue whatever we left off doing yesterday. Food is necessary and to the happy human there are some choices. My local rural supermarkets cater very poorly for vegetarians, but ... more

    Advantages Advantages taste

Disadvantages Disadvantages Taste nothing like real sausages

Don’t expect these to be like real sausages! Let’s set that straight at the beginning. Quorn make perfect sausages, and you can’t tell the difference, but these give a different delicious taste… The first thing that is really different about them, is they seem to be covered in some sort of breadcrumbs! So, that’s the first sing they aren’t at all like real sausages! Secondly, inside is very spicy, and although nice, not like real sausages! But, apart from all this, they are pretty nice, and a change from Quorn! The Taste? Well, it has a very spicy taste, and ... more

Advantages Advantages Vegetarian friendly, inexpensive, widely available

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Pretend meat.....

Linda McCartney Vegetarian Sausages These sausages caught my eye in the supermarket freezer section. I have been a vegetarian for most of my adult life and as a rule I avoid what I term 'pretend meat'. After all I do not choose to eat meat, so why would I want to eat imitation meat products? However, there are times when a quick easy meal is required and with this in mind I bought a packet of Linda McCartney Vegetarian Sausages to try. The Linda McCartney brand is well known among vegetarian people and in recent years the range of vegetarian dishes she made famous have been re-developed and ... more

Advantages Advantages Smell, taste & look like real meat sausages, better for you, no chance of getting a piece of grist

Disadvantages Disadvantages Might smell, taste and look to much like the real thing for real vegetarians.

Firstly I must point out that I am not a Vegetarian (I tried that once for 3 months and missed bacon sandwiches too much!) but now-a-days I do tend to just eat white meat and very rarely eat red meat anymore, apart from in a tattie pot. It isn't so much for the reasons that most people stop eating meat, it's more to with health reasons, but mainly....and this is the big reason....I am extremely fussy about finding anything un-toward such as pieces of gristle in things such as mince, sausages and burgers, if I do then that's me finished with them and I can't enjoy my meal. When I eat out, it ... more
