Advantages Advantages good content, no logon problems

    Disadvantages Disadvantages slow mail server

You might think that all ISPs are the same but they're not. Consider a superior ISP that will give you great service and free gifts for signing up. Stop and think for a minute. Just how happy are you with your current Internet Service Provider? Are you having any trouble logging on? Do you fail three or four times before you get through? Is the portal content dull as ditchwater? Ever get the feeling all they want is your money, and once they have it they don’t want to know? How about trying an ISP that will give you a free CD-Rom and a £5 amazon voucher just for joining? Of course you ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages 50p per minute helpline costs

My tempestuous relationship with Freeserve SurfTime ended in acrimony earlier this year. To be honest, the relationship had been on the rocks for a long time, and I was relieved when it was over. Freeserve had initially been charging me £5 per month for off-peak internet access, but this gradually crept up to £10. This would have been forgiveable if the service I was receiving was good, but it was pathetic. I had to make many attempts to log on, and when I did the connections were incredibly slow. Unfortunately I was so frustrated with Freeserve that the relationship descended into violence ... more

Free internet calls are certainly possible but you need to do plenty of research before you insert any disks sent by mail or posted on your favourite magazine, some companies are not above giving a false impression of their service .My experience of this practice was after inserting the disk with the august issue of P.C.plus i found my settings had been changed to Lineone but no information about the special dialler box. This took a call to Lineone to be told the offer had expired three weeks previously , which i find annoying as the magazine was only issued eighteen days previous to my call ... more

    Advantages Advantages reliable service

    Disadvantages Disadvantages suffers occasional disconnections

Lineone have provided me so far with a trouble free service and offer a very competitive deal. I am on the unlimited weekend and off peak tariff and apart from the odd disconnection has been trouble free. I 've read a lot of the reports on Ciao about Lineone and they are taking some stick over the quip debacle. But don't let that cloud the issue. Regarding the disconnection thing . Let's be honest how many ISP's provide a totally 100 percent trouble free service for a fair price ? Not many certainly not Freeserve or BT anyway in my experience. The point I am trying to make is Ok Lineone are ... more

Advantages Advantages Good connection speed, pretty reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor customer support, impossible to cancel Surftime over the phone, 50p per minute tech support

This used to be my ISP, and during the time I used it, was one of the better ISP's that I have subscribed to over the last 18 months. I signed up during the early part of 2000, to take advantage of the Quip offer. While the offer was active I was really impressed and the few times that it was down, were just par for the course. After all when you pay as little as £5 a month for 24/7 then you can't grumble when they are down every now and again. I wasn't too surprised when the Quip deal finished, as anyone could see that it was in no way financially viable, but I stuck with them until Surftime ... more

Lineone offer local call rate access (who wants that!) which is totally free or lineone surftime meaning free internet calls at offpeak times(evenings, weekends) for a fee of £10 a month with peak access only charged at 1p a minute. I subscribed to their surftime package as I'd got pretty sick of hearing engaged tones on IC24 and X-Stream, the monthly fee of £10 sounded OK but the service is laughable - Lineone reserve the right to terminate your connection after two hours continuos usage but how do they explain cutting my connection WHENEVER THEY WANT. About 70% of the time my connections were ... more

Advantages Advantages Unlimited evenings and weekend surfing for a fixed price

Disadvantages Disadvantages None I have found yet

I only joined Line One about 6 weeks ago which was therefore after their 'free' offer. I have been totally impressed with the service (however, I was with RedHotAnt before so it probably wouldn't take much). I received a trial offer disk through the post for their pay per minute service which I initially tried. By loading the disk it did change my homepage and some other settings, but it was worth it for the first time logon every time and reasonably quick speeds. I e-mailed a couple of queries to them and they responded within 24 hours and the replies were efficient and helpful. Having tested ... more

Since the demise of Lineone Quip from which I had no problems at all, I made the mistake of registering for Lineone Surftime which is when my problems began. Almost immediatly I started to get disconnected after about 20 minutes, emails to Lineone,s help line, which were usually answered within 24 hours suggested the problem lay within the settings of my Pc. This I found strange as it had performed perfectly with Lineone Quip, also as my children also operate a Pc which was configured differently, ie different dial up number, different modem etc which also had the same problem I started to ... more

LineOne is an ISP for which you pay £9.99 a month and get unmetered offpeak access. Peak access costs only 1p per minute. These are reasonable rates and well worth the price. This is fine for someone like me who only needs the Internet in the evening after a long hard day’s work! The chances of em using the net during the day are very slim. When I joined LineOne I got a free CD-Rom and a £5 Amazon voucher. At the moment they are awarding flights to New York & Hong Kong for £10. The LineOne service is extremely reliable and contributes a great deal to the reason why I like them so much ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No 24hr option

A reliable, speedy, affordable ISP? In Britain? Surely not! Well, with LineOne the dream is a reality. I've been using this service for around 8 months now after an absolute horror with BT Internet and previously ic24, FreeNetName and even AOL (back in my "newbie" days). Never before have a come across a service that really does live up to it's promise. I am on the SurfTime Off-peak option, meaning I can have unlimited Internet use at the evenings and weekends. For this privilege I pay £9.99 per month on by BT phone bill. And I certainly make strong use of this, being online almost all ... more
