I got to know about this wireless WRT54G router from a friend, I saw him using at his home for months with out any hassle, so I bought one for me from my nearest computer shop. After that day I started using other Linksys products as well and found most of them very user friendly. Linksys is a well known name in the market for making ADSL/broadband routers. They even make other products for VOIP like PAP2 etc and currently manufacturing most of the product from china. Package and Out Look! The box color is black and blue with router image in the middle of the box, the size of the box is small ... more

Advantages Advantages New faster wi-fi standard. Easy to set-up

Disadvantages Disadvantages None specific to Linksys, but wi-fi HAS to less secure than a wired LAN

Just when you thought I’d gone soft, writing about interesting things like travel, here’s another one of my computer hardware jobs to bring you back to earth. Unlike ‘Two Sheds Jackson’, who was only thinking of getting two sheds, I’ve actually got three PCs, all of which are networked, two by being hard-wired to a broadband router and the third on the far end of a ‘wi-fi’ link down in the stygian depths of my house, or the dining room as it’s sometimes known. My existing networking kit, also supplied by Linksys took care of all the shared access to the Telewest broadband internet service and ... more

Advantages Advantages Less Wires Hanging around plus broadband everywhere

Disadvantages Disadvantages found it hard to set up at first

After purchasing my Acer Laptop (see review) and moving my Desktop PC up into my Boy's room, I decided to delve into the unknown for me and get myself a Wireless Router, that way I could get Broadband all over the house without boring wires through the ceiling and so on. I picked up a brilliant deal at PC World and got the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router and USB Adaptor both for £39.99 as a package deal, individually it would have been around £70.00 so well impressed there. A bit of technical stuff:- It states a 35% FASTER download speed (I can back this up and say this is true) The speed ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not quite Plug & Play!

Wireless components have been gradually creeping down and down in price over the last few months, to a point where I feel they are now completely accessible to the home market. The Linksys Broadband Router is ideal for anyone who wants to share their broadband connection to multiple computers in the home, without the hassle of hanging network cables out of windows or pulling all the floorboards up! Straight out the box the unit is aesthetically pleasing and contains everything to get you started. A word of warning however, the product contains a quick start guide which shows you the bare ... more

I am a student who recieved a laptop for Christmas and wanted a way to surf the internet and play games etc. through my cable internet connection from the main computer in my house. I bought this little beauty and a wireless PCI card for my laptop; both Linksys. The Price: The price has come done considerably since I bought it just before the summer last year (2005) and it's even better now for what you get. The Specs: The router sports 2 antenna for your wireless needs and the wireless signal reaches far beyond my garden fence (10m away from house). I played Wolfenstein in my garden happily ... more

1 Star Quick review of Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54G by Level 1 only_doing_my_duty 09/08/2007
If you are considering this router please, please be wary of the version number, it can be found on the bottom next to the serial number. We made the mistake of thinking that there was one version and as a result ended up with a bricked router, no amount of firmware updates could fix it and in the end we opted for dd-wrt, an open source Linux firmware rewrite, which although very technical, ended up being a very nice option rather than binning the router. Make sure that you don't end up with a V5 and you'll be fine other wise ... more

I actually bought this item because of the reviews on this site. It was relatively cheap comparing it with competitors but that doesnt matter because it rocks. I have had it for a few weeks now and its range is around 20-30m. I keep it in my garage and it still penetrates the concrete walls and gives good reception for all of my wireless devices. I use it for my psp and laptop. It allows me to play online with the psp and that is just amazing to see how i can be playing other people around the world without even plugging anything in!! The psps web browser works great with this router and ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Watch your security settings. Avoid warchalkers.

This is a wi-fi broadband router. It can link together four computers with cables, plus others without cables. It does this by transmitting from under the desk (that's where I shoved mine), acting like a short range radio station. My laptop can pick up the internet even though it isn't physically connected to anything. When I ordered this router it arrived next day before 7.30 which was amazing. I had a few teething troubles with my cable modem which used to be on USB to my PC and needed to be connected via LAN. I called my ISP and they twiddled and that went away. Everything else was very ... more

Advantages Advantages Very Easy to setup, v.good range, good looking piece of equipment

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't forward many ports

As Linksys is owned by Cisco when you purchase this router you know you're purchasing something which will last and will be reliable. The wireless part of this router is amazing, the signal is excellent and I haven't had a problem since I purchased this item. The router part protects my home network from intrusion and allows me to setup a secure VPN so I can access my network elsewhere. You can open ports to allow applications to access any PCs on your network. You can also restrict internet access per PC with timed intervals allowing you to keep an eye on the kids usage. Overall this router ... more
